Gilberton Outback Retreat

I recently flew in to Gilberton to visit Lyn French and the spectacular oasis she has created. Whilst it was only a short visit I was blown away by how spectacular the retreat is, the attention to detail and the view. I’ve travelled to luxury safari lodges and this was better than some of the best I’ve seen. Lyn makes you feel so welcome and she just wants you to relax and do as much or as little as you like. Can’t wait to come back and stay for a few days!

I cannot express how much I loved my stay at Gilberton Outback Retreat. Lyn and Rob made us feel right at home and welcomed us with open arms. The lush greenery, the wide open spaces and the peaceful atmosphere left us feeling rejuvenated and refreshed. The tours through the bush were simply breathtaking.

We explored art that looked as if it could be centuries-old and also witnessed pieces of history that told stories of the Gold Rush era. The luxurious accommodation exceeded our expectations with its stunning views and high-end amenities. One can never feel more relaxed while soaking in the luxurious baths and gazing at the outback sky.

Our time spent here was nothing short of magical and we were able to create unforgettable memories that we will cherish for a lifetime.

If you are looking for an authentic outback experience, Gilberton Outback Retreat should be on the top of your list. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to escape their daily routine and indulge in true luxury.

We just did a three night stay at Gilberton Outback Retreat as part of our honeymoon and it was just amazing and so unique! We absolutely loved the accommodation, it is even more awesome than the pictures look. Lyn and Rob were fantastic hosts, and showed us so much hospitality and consideration to make our stay so special. Lyn took us on an awesome tour through the bush to see the rock art, historical remnants of the gold rush town, the cattle and much more. It was great, highly recommend that. Lyn also took us out fossicking and helped us find a couple pieces of gold that we even got to keep! We also did a photo shoot with Camilla who lives on the station and we are very happy with the stunning photos we got! We also enjoyed some paddle boarding and kayaking on the swimming hole, and several luxurious baths overlooking the dry riverbed. It was so peaceful and fun, with heaps of interesting facts about the region along the way. The food was lovely and we had great yarns over every meal. Thank you Lyn, Rob and Frenchy for such a wonderful and memorable stay! Highly recommend!

Lyn and Rob open their home, and their country by warmly welcoming guests to Gilberton Outback Retreat. Being a part of a working cattle property is a privilege to experience, a ‘dirt of a day’ out with a beautiful bath to soak in at the end of it, the bath is perfectly positioned to take in breathtaking scenery to get lost in and rest the mind! History, diversity, sustainability, luxury are only a few words that perfectly describe this location!

The accommodation is absolutely magnificent. The outback experience was truely authentic and to learn so much about the area and the history of the property was a real privilege. The family were so welcoming and we enjoyed wonderful conversations around the family dinner table. Once in a lifetime experience. Loved every minute.

The location is so amazing and the hosts Rob and Lyn were so friendly. I felt like a member of their family.
The retreat is so luxurious and so peaceful. There’s so much to see and to explore. Lyn and Rob told us stories about their property and showed us around.

Gilberton Outback Retreat is an Oasis of peace and quiet if you want. However if you're looking for a bit more action, you can climb up mountains and watch the cute rock wallabies, do the gate challenge and cruise around in the buggy. Lyn and Rob will make you feel part of their station life and share stories of past and present. I feel truly blessed I was able to stay at the retreat, it's an unforgettable experience.

We loved the accommodation, station life and experiences we had at Gilberton Retreat. It's truly private and exclusive since they only take one couple at a time. The family have been on the station for 7 generations and are beautiful people. We had dinner with them each night and they took us through life in the outback. We also saw an amazing aboriginal site with untouched art and what looks to be a big meeting place. Did some gold prospecting and some hikes to amazing untouched areas. Highly recommend Gilberton and going out there for a romantic break, an escape or to learn about outback station life.

We have just had one of the best stays at a thoroughly unique outback experience, from the time we arrived we were made welcome & then we had an extra privilege of a muster taking place & moving the large herd of over 1000 head of cattle from one place to go into the sorting area, absolutely had a wow factor, soo much dust but of course that happens when the cattle are moving. From riding on the ATV with Lyn & keeping the herd in place was soo much fun. Meeting the family was very much part of the experience & then the private accommodation right on the edge of the Gilbert river, admittedly no water flowing but it was dry season & staying in this private lodge was absolutely amazing, have to say we will be back, big thanks to Lyn & Rob & the crew it made a stay perfect.

We stayed at Gilberton Outback retreat only for one night but had the most wonderful time. We packed so much in with the genorisity of the owners Lyn and Rob. We had a fantastic flight with luke flying from Ingham to the property and seeing old volcano, waterfalls and seeing how the country changes from coast to the outback. Then was met by Lyn who took us out to a sandstone escarpment and viewed aboriginal paintings and cuppa and took in the silence. Had lunch at the house and then shown to the most beautiful accommodation looking over the Gilbert river. Enjoyed some complimentary wine and snacks and relaxed enjoying the view from the perfectly positioned bath tube. Rob then later took us up a nearby hill looking down at the house and enjoyed the sunset with more wine and snacks and later enjoyed a home cooked meal with them. If this wasnt enough Rob took us fossicking the next morning and my wife found a peice of gold which we kept as a momento of our fantastic stay. If your looking to do a farm stay holiday in luxury this is the place. Thanks Lyn and Rob for the stay and treating us like we were old friends catching up. Chris and Karen

For those who want to fossicker for Gold, enjoy the past of rural Australia's history or simply relax and enjoy the outstanding tours and food.
Not to mention the (Best) Down to earth hospitality.
You can't beat Gilberton Station.
Include a few destinations enroute to make your trip a memorable one.
Gilberton prefers groups of 8-10 to keep up the standard of personalised service. The Penthouse suite was great, some us chose the Cabin/Donga accom nearby the homestead due to our numbers.
15 of us flew in and can Highly recommend this holiday destination.

Having seen a few of Australia’s top luxury lodges Gilberton Outback Retreat doesn’t fall short of a 5 star experience. Laidback luxury and Australian outback hospitality at its best!

A unique experience with the most accommodating hosts. Definitely a place worth visiting if you're looking for an exclusive off the grid outback stay loaded with true Aussie hospitality.

Amazing one in a lifetime experience, hosts were just delightful. Can't recommend a visit enough. Though note - Google directions are incorrect check with owners for easiest way there.
