Being a rock nerd, I love this place. It’s fascinating to have a read and great examples in natural and polished states. If you like the tin foil hat brigade they like to hang out in the car park too

Wonderful huge rock specimens with explanatory placards of rocks up to 2.5 billion years ago (formed before Australia was even a land mass). The Rock Garden is located near the entrance to Barrenjoey Peninsula, which is like a magic forest with large open grass fields (all a designated dog off-leash area). Entrance to the Lake is possible (although there are better beaches close by in Weston Park). Perfect for dogs and adventurous humans :-) The Rock Garden itself is walking distance to The Arboretum (1.1 kilometres as the crow flies from the main pavilion). The Barrenjoey Peninsula provides an uncommon view of Government House (probably the best view) looking south-west at its lake frontage.

I was surprised to see this area opposite the arboretum. The "garden" contains large samples of the geological history of Australia. I found it interesting and I'm sure there will be a few people who would visit the area just to read up on the geological information. If that doesn't grab your fancy go for a jog or cycle on the neat pathways.

Many explanatory placards, very informative. Rock specimens are from billions of years ago, which are very interesting. Easy parking, surrounding is quiet and peaceful.

Fascinating details about Australian rocks. Can't wait for the entire garden to be completed at the National Arboretum.

When I first visited the rock garden it was not a very impressive collection, it has since grown larger and is an interesting spot surrounded by some great walking tracks. Definitely worth a look

A great initiative in the middle of the capital. To date there are contributions from all states and territories. It is interesting to see these boulders from the different geological eras through time. Our favourite was between the red iron rock and the one full of fossils. We hope there are further plans to extend it to feature a bigger range.

An incredible, beautiful, and life changing experience. What a delightful and amazing view that I beheld whilst visiting the angelic glory within the rock garden. Truly a national treasure, and rightfully so it is! A must see for all wishing to peer into the very fabric and secrets hidden by the universe.

One of my favourite places on this planet. There is discussion of future expansion, it’s not necessary.
Easy parking if you get there before the busses.
Perfect spot for a birthday.
Canberra, killing it.

The most awe inspiring place I've ever visited. And I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments mean nothing when compared to the National Rock Garden.

This is by far the best tourist attraction Canberra has to offer. Well done Canberra full marks
