I have eaten here many times, and the dining experience is always very good. There are both indoor and outdoor seating, and seats are usually not required on Saturdays around 11 o 'clock. Curry rice and soba noodles are recommended. The matcha cake in the dessert is also delicious. The coffee is very rich and I like it very much. I'm sure I'll come again next time.

Kuu Cafe Japanese offers a refreshing twist on Japanese cuisine in Melbourne. Their eclectic menu combines Japanese and Western flavors for creative and wholesome meals. Tried the Japanese brekky platter, teriyaki salmon, and chicken katsu Japanese curry—consistently delicious! A must-visit for unique dining experiences.

Must try. Great tasting food, affordable price. Have tried most items on the menu - all fantastic. Particularly like the curry and tsukune meatballs.

Cute place hiding away in South Melbourne for yum Japanese brunch/lunch. Interesting combinations available as single plates or for those who can’t decide, get the Japanese pastry platter. Get these early as it get busy quickly.

Small cafe that serves delicious Japanese curry rice (they use brown rice which is an healthier option), refreshing matcha drinks and Japanese cheese cakes. Oishii desu.

This place is small and cute. The Japanese breakfast platter is well presented and nice. A little too focused on rice though. My hubby loved his sandwich with karage chicken. It's busy and fast service. Would recommend and enjoyed it

I always love coming here; this cafe is delightfully cosy and vibrantly decorated with cute knick knacks. The chicken meatball ochazuke I had was light in flavour, paired with the pickled side dish helps to refresh your palette. I would recommend this dish if you like delicate flavours and are looking for something to warm your tummy. The genmaicha flan was delicious - you can taste the subtle roasted rice tea within the flan.

Cute little japanese cafe with light and fresh meals.
Love that I can bring my pooch along too.
The breakfast platter had a lovely mix of flavours and food variety.
Kern to come back to try the chazuke and desserts.

Had breakfast platter (only available on weekends) and ochazuke. Super yummy and value for money. Small cozy cafe with indoor and outdoor sitting. Can be quite crowded during the weekend, though we managed to catch a lull between the breakfast/ lunch crowds to enjoy our meal.

The Katsu Curry was amaizng!! Such a different flavour from regular Japanese curry but in a good way! The chips were thin and crispy, not to salty~ the place had nice vibes too. Very small but great 😁

I needed a coffee and my cousin brought me to this lovely unassuming cafe. It may be small, but it sure is popular.
We only had time for a drink, thus the rating is just for the drinks. Nice mocha! It is a place with going back to try other things on the menu. 🫰🏻 Keep up the great work!

Cosy Japanese cafe offering a variety of Japanese style brunch meals.

I visited on a Sunday winter morning at 11am expecting queues at the door but thankfully it was chill! Only a few tables inside but they also have outdoor seating. Our group was immediately greeted by a friendly waitress and we were sat at a table inside.

You order your meals and drinks via barcode where you can view the entire menu. Unfortunately the Japanese cheesecake was sold out which I really wanted to try but I was happy to at least order the breakfast platter which I was most excited about and it did not disappoint! Every part of the plate was delicious. My favourite was the salmon with egg and potato mash and the tempura prawn with mushroom rice. Soba noodles were fresh and went well with everything also.

My friends ordered the Chicken katsu curry and the sando. The curry with rice was also exceptionally good however the sandwich wasn’t very tasty as the mustard flavour was quite overpowering.

Coffee is good and if you order a large it comes in a big ceramic cup. Very aesthetic.

The interior itself is cute and quirky. Staff were very happy and friendly. One waiter asked if we were warm enough because we sat closest to the door and offered to shut it. We weren’t fussed but we found it very nice of him to ask.

I will happily visit again and hope to try the cheesecake with a matcha latte maybe!

Enjoyed a wonderful lunch at this fantastic gem of a Japanese cafe in South Melbourne. Service is extremely friendly and helpful and the food is amazing!

We enjoyed an authentic Japanese chicken katsu curry, a delicious salmon sashimi salad, a tasty chicken katsu sandwich and some freshly made omu-rice onigiri.

Strongly recommend!

Great Cafe with amazing food and yum drinks. Had the Matcha latte and it was definitely one of the best I've had in Melbourne. Bonus points for the cute latte art! The salmon and rice was amazing and had a gluten free option as well. There were quite a few people who sat outdoors with their pets too :)

Had their curry chicken katsu and adegashi tofu dish. Both were served warm and hearty ☺ perfect for sunday brunch. Love their beetroot puree sauce on the salad such a nice touch on the simple salad sides. Their hojicha and matcha latte is delicious although I find it a little too sweet for me.

Awesome little restaurant with great chicken curry. We had been missing it since returning from Japan and this really hit the spot. Will be back for this.

Awesome little Japanese cafe with really well done Japanese dishes. I could have easily picked anything on the menu as everything sounded great. I ended up having the chicken katsu curry with a fried egg. Wife had the chicken katsu sandwich.

Pretty much the best of each that we've had outside Japan. Chicken katsu was delicious and the curry had the perfect hint of spiciness.

Will definitely hope to be back (especially for breakfast).

Went back 6 years later in June 2023 and still just as fantastic.

Came here for lunch few weeks ago .. and it was nice :) The black sesame coffee is a must to try :)

One of my favourite Japanese cafe! Been here few times for lunch only. Never tried the breakfast nor the dinner. Everything that I had tried so far - TASTY! Highly recommended if you’ve happened to be around south Melbourne. They quite busy on the weekend. Will come back here for dinner next time

This cafe is a little gem! Don’t be fooled by its location or how unassuming it looks. The magic coffee I ordered was really aromatic. For breakfast we ordered beef teritama don, chicken katsu curry and a slice of matcha green tea ganache cake. The timing, service, taste and presentation were excellent. Highly recommended.

Sometimes I just want some good Asian foods in the morning but many restaurants only open around 11am.
I was quite happy to know that this place opened early and decided to give it a try while having a catch up with a friend.

The cafe felt quite homey and the staff were friendly. We ordered Japanese chicken katsu curry and Taco rice. Both are really delicious. I would certainly come back again next time to try different menus.
