This hike is a must do if you are able to! Don’t let the stairs put you off, the views are just incredible and there is lots of wildlife to look at on the way. We hiked with our toddler in a hiking carrier and had no issues. The rangers do a terrific job of maintaining this track and nearby facilities.

This is an amazing walk. The 4 hours return journey is just about right. I took 4 and half hours total journey and stopped to take photos along the way.
The long weekend was the busiest walk I have done but I have also walked this track alone. Track maintenance is some of the best I have seen but this is a premiere area for high value tourism.
This is part of the 60 Great Short Walk and deserves it place there. The scenery is amazing.

The track starts with a beach view which is very stunning on a sunny day. The track has been very well maintained so it supports us a lot during the trip. lt took us more than 5 hours to return with 2 kids(10 years and 8 years) . It's a long track with up and down steps so tired a little bit. Make sure to take water, food and clothes enough for the trip. Not an easy track but worth it after finishing.

Stunning , jaw dropping views to be had. Definitely not an easy walk. 4 hours of up / down steps but the view is worth it.

One of the most exquisite hikes I’ve ever been on in Australia. The entire trail is scenic with it’s vistas of expansive coastline & strikingly beautiful sea cliffs in every direction. In total, it’s roughly a 3-4 hour round trip journey — depending on your fitness level —, but highly recommended for anybody that doesn’t have knee issues. It can be demanding at times on the knees & thighs. Starting off at the white sand beaches of Fortescue Bay, the trail gracefully moves through different terrain that varies between flat, shady eucalyptus forest to steep, sunny coastal heathland. All the steps are mindfully crafted for secure footing & there’s a few spots designed for taking a break & sitting down. The second half is absolutely stunning & I’m so glad I pushed through & left my sore friends behind to finish the trek because the best was certainly in the last few kms for me. Breathtaking views & little clearings in the formations to get a good glimpse at exactly how high in elevation you are. Be careful though as one small mistake could lead to your demise. Stay on the beaten path for a safe journey. The photos cannot do the real experience justice.

Another bucket-list hike in South East Tassie!!
- 3-4hrs return (leisurely pace with plenty of photo ops)
- The lookout is at the very end and is definitely worth it, you can see some seals sunbathing on the bottom of the cliffs if you pay enough attention! Rockclimbers are often sighted at the totem pole too.
- Plenty of parking (we went during PH), trail starts at Cape Huay Trailhead Carpark. It’s a dirt road for about 15mins in, don’t drive too fast as a couple of deep potholes could puncture your tyres
- About 2/3 of it are steps, towards the end the steps are very steep, the rest are all gradually sloped terrain. Suitable for trail runners but can be harsh on those with bad knees.
- More people than Cape Raoul, you will always see a few people every 10mins+ on a weekend.
- If you are deciding between Cape Huay and Cape Raoul, Cape Raoul definitely has the better view!! We did both back-to-back days, and also felt Cape Raoul was easier despite being longer. However, Cape Huay still has stunnng views for those on a time-crunch!

Give this a thumbs up if it helps! Enjoy your lovely hike!! :)

Absolutely stunning hike and beautiful view in the end. I had a lot of pause and wow moment to take it all in. The hike is long with lots of stairs but def worth in the end.

Amazing walk, definitely one of the top 3 hikes in Australia. However the hike is not moderate, I would classify it as hard. It will definitely take 4 hours and weather can be unpredictable. There are a few adorable wallabies around too. The middle part of the hike is a bit boring but the start and definitely the ending is breathtaking. Lots of steps so make sure to carry water and good shoes. Take time to appreciate the ocean views on the last 25% of the walk.

We enjoyed the Cape Hauy track! It was about 10km return and took 2.5hrs walking time, about 3 hrs with stops. There were a lot of stairs both ways so that meant it was pretty demanding on the knees. Some of the home goes close to the edge of the cliff and is quite windy so be aware of that when hiking. Also we left at around 10am and it started to heat up on the return ...so maybe best to start the track early to avoid walking up all the stairs in the midday sun.

We did the hike the day after 17km Cape Raoul and would recommend that order, because Hauy was more demanding on knees with the stairs

Plenty of incline and decline but a very satisfying walk with stunning and dramatic scenery. I would rate this a hard/difficult walk.

Stunning view and fantastic hike. Prepare yourself for a LOT of stairs and up and down travel. I was very happy to have my hiking poles. Also, for anyone like me who is frightened by bees, there are a lot on the trail so just mentally prepare yourself for that. Beautiful!

Extremely scenic 4hr grade 3 hike from Fortescue Bay. Lots of well formed steps and paths with quite a bit of elevation gain and loss on the 12km return hike. The beach at Fortiscue seems like a great place to swim on a good warm day and in early autumn. Access via 12km of rough gravel road to National Park.

One of the most beautiful hike tracks I ever walked. It is quite long; up and down but every minute worth it. You should go do the hike and let me know. I bet you won't repent.

The sign says 4-hour return, believe me, it does take roughly 4 hrs for a short woman like me to finish this track. But definitely worth walking. The views are incredible!

Excellent hike! Took us 5 hours with a nice long stop at the end of the cape. The trailhead has a big parking lot, campground and toilets as well as a friendly park office. The trail is very well maintained. Lots of ups and downs mean a fair amount of elevation gain and loss. The knees felt it the next day.

If you suffer from vertigo the views at the end will likely freak you out. Truly spectacular spot!

Stunning. Absolutely stunning!! Fair bit of stairs, but we managed this walk with 2 children (7&9) one of whom is asthmatic. Plenty of stopping and resting and we made it!! Would definitely recommend!

Early grind for the first 40 mins through eucalyptus forest, a few flights of stairs. But the pay off is huuuuuuge ! Cant recommend this hike enough. Huge jagged cliff views meet vast open and unforgiving seas.
Early mornings are a dream time to hike the trail, with chances of seeing seals, black cockatoos, whales and dolphins, as well as epic stone cliff views

Moderately demanding hike with many stone stairs up and down.
(NB: Hiking poles redistribute 30% of energy from legs to upper body)
Trail begins at Fortescue Bay campsite. Well sign posted. Plenty parking.
Register before you go near the toilets.
Absolutely stunning views and beautiful bushland.
Take your time thru the bush and you will likely encounter an echidna, many birds, and other creatures. Best to stop or walk softly and listen for rustlings and noises.
I love the minimal safety railings and just a small reminder you're walking next to a cliff.
Gets busy, being one of the World's great walks, but (nearly) everyone is is in a state of joyful awe, so good vibes abound. Enjoy!

Challanging.. Alot of steps.. Took a few hours but such beautiful views you can imagine..
a beautiful day hike, the best short walk in Tasmania is more of what you are looking for, Cape Hauy is a standout. The 10km return day-walk starts and finishes from Fortescue Bay on the Tasman Peninsula, just 1.5hrs from Hobart.
