Roti Canai with Singaporean Sambal Prawns were so good! The Sambal Prawns were not spicy, but so flavourful. The Roti were so crispy, Sayur Lodeh (veggie curry) was so flavourful, and all this combo just works 👍! Hainanese Chicken Rice was good (not the best I’ve had, but it was decent).

And that Kechap Manis Squid 🤤 from New Ginger & Spice (part of Alex Lee Kitchen). Service was quick too & please make sure you listen to your order number.

My go to place for a laksa, they have changed the crispy chicken & it is no longer battered unfortunately. So I’d recommend the normal chicken.

Soup base is full bodied with all the right flavour combinations & just right consistency.

Yum!

The roti here was very delicious, crispy and light, we loved it so much and they gave us a free one! The chefs were happy to talk to us as they cooked and the atmosphere is great. I'll definitely be coming again!

Easily one of the best roti canai and chicken curries in Sydney. Flavour and quality on par with what you would expect at the popular hawker stands in Malaysia, Singapore. Have been here almost weekly in the last few months and has consistently been good.

Also realised that when you get takeaway they’ll give you a modified lid with the roti container so it doesn’t steam out the crispiness.

ALEX LEE KITCHEN, CHIPPENDALE

Thanks @sixfootandsalty for recommending me to check out @spicealley in Chippendale! Honestly, my first time checking the area out which reminds me of Hawker stalls that l seen on food vlogs where you just order, wait for your number and pick up the dish you ordered to eat at a table.

I decided to try out Alex Lee Kitchen, a Singaporean restaurant situated inside @spicealley as their Crispy Hainanese Chicken Rice dish caught my immediate attention.

☆ CRISPY HAINANESE CHICKEN RICE ($15.90)

Chicken has been marinaded in Turmeric and other seasonings before being dredged to undergo a deep fry process to attain a crispy exterior. Despite being boneless, the chicken meat was not dry as l believe Chicken Thigh was used for the cut of meat. As a result of the deep fry process, there were pieces of the dredge that were so crunchy which added a great texture as you ate through the particular meal. I left the Crispy Chicken Skin for last so l could just savour it.

The rice is not just any plain rice as it has been flavoured from the Chicken Fat removed from the Chicken they use in their Hainanese Chicken and the flavoured Chicken-based stock that is used to poach their Chicken in which has a nice hint of Ginger and other seasonings in it. I love the Thick Caramel Sauce which looks Soy Sauce-based from the dark colour and the Chilli Sauce that is mild for me which l mixed into the rice so that every spoonful, l could have a bite of everything with the Deep Fried Chicken and the garnishes of Fresh Cucumber and Tomato.

After a sip of the Chicken Soup, l could tell that the stock has been simmered with so much love and care that the flavour was very Chicken-flavour forward with hints of Ginger and other seasonings. The soup had pieces of Fried Shallots and Spring Onions as garnish which elevated the flavour of the soup even more.

Laksa and Roti were so delicious. The bihoon was plenty, laksa soup was rich, thick and savoury. Big shrimps. As a tourist, it made me happy to find great authentic food like this.

Tasty, reliable Singaporean restaurant located in Spice Alley. By favourite is the Hainan Chicken Rice and this place does it much better than surrounding restaurants.

The hainan rice is nice and fragrant, and not overly oily. The chicken is not too fatty, but super moist. Only downside is that the dish comes with soup, chilli sauce, and sweet soy sauce, but no ginger shallot oil (which should be a staple with the dish).

Overall would highly recommend this place.

I love chicken rice and I have been going around Sydney’s Malaysian and Singaporean eateries, for the last two years, trying to find a chicken rice that is comparable in taste to the ones found in the Singapore.
I could taste the chickens served in many of the eateries were cooked using frozen chicken. Yes, I have tasted enough chicken rice to be able to tell if one is using fresh chicken from the frozen ones.
I am pleasantly surprised that I have found a taste that is 80% close to the local Singapore taste - Alex Lee Kitchen.
Chicken used was fresh, moist and smooth, with the right balance of soya sauce and the fragrance rice. I can taste the Pandan flavour in their rice too.
Reasonably priced at $13.90. You have won me over, Alex Lee.

Amazing place with a diverse range of innovative Singaporean dishes. Some of my favorites are the black pepper chicken wings, and amazing rotis and curries. Try the Asian Buns cart which has a range of Asian-inspired burgers and delicious natural fruit sodas.

Got this through Menulog and the food came quickly which meant it was also still hot. Everything we had was really good including the Hainese Chicken Rice and Mee Goreng. The Sayur Lodeh with Rice was also good as was the Gado Gado.
