The Big Mexican Rancho

Every part of our meal was lovely - tasty, light, and authentically Mexican. The service was excellent, and the crew there clearly took pride in what they were doing, and truly cared that we had a good experience. Will definitely be back.

Found this place by accident and it was a VERY happy accident.

Wonderfully flavourful and a lovely place to sit and enjoy some damn good Mexican food. The service was polite, prompt and helpful.

The only issue I have is that it is further from my house than I would like. This may be a good thing as I suspect I would eat there all the time if it was within walking distance.

Possibly the best Mexican food in Australia. I almost don’t want to review it because I want to keep this secret to myself. Generous portions, authentic taste, great service. Try the tacos and enchiladas, and the chili con queso!

Great family Mexican. Meals were very generous and super tasty. The whole family was happy thank-you. The hot Cheese dip and bean dip were a great start. The staff very friendly and quick to serve. The added bonus of BYO is great!

BIG MEXICAN RANCHO, GYMEA BAY

When you first enter inside @thebigmexicanrancho in Gymea Bay, the restaurant certainly gives a nod to Mexican culture with Sombreros, Luchador Masks, and Cactus plus other props placed around the restaurant, making you feel like you have just been directly transported to Mexico. @thebigmexicanrancho specialises in serving authentic Mexican dishes that are rustic and packed with flavour to their patrons. I had the pleasure of checking this place out with @bestspots.com.au for Dinner as we wanted to explore more of the food scene in the Sutherland area.

☆ PRAWNS MEXICANA ($28)

Perfectly cooked Green Prawns swim in a sauce that has been made with White Wine, Garlic and Cream which is served with a mound of their house-made Yellow Rice that has Peas and Diced Carrots incorporated into it. The sauce made with a combination of White Wine, Garlic and Cream was very creamy and rich in flavour that it paired beautifully with the sweet meat of the Prawns. The house-made Yellow Rice made by @thebigmexicanrancho was definitely a stand out as the rice was fluffy and just helped absorb all that sauce.

Mashed Fried Beans have been served with this particular meal as well which offers a creamy texture on the palate. I found it very interesting that there were Tortilla Chips provided on the plate but l was glad they were there as it offered a crunch to the meal as the overall texture on the plate with the Rice, Prawns and Mashed Fried Beans was pretty much soft.

☆ CEVICHE ($17)

@thebigmexicanrancho has marinaded diced pieces of Prawn in Lemon Juice and other flavourings which kind of cures and cooks the pieces of Prawn at the same time from the acidity in the citrus used for this take on Ceviche. The restaurant has incorporated diced Raw Spanish Onion, Mixed Salad Leaves and Red Peppers to add texture for this Ceviche as they offer a crunch as you eat through this Ceviche.

The use of Coriander in the Ceviche offers herbaceous notes to the Ceviche, brightening it up with freshness. The slices of Avocado are definitely a saving grace as the creamy texture somewhat cools your palate if the Ceviche gets too spicy from the Chilli incorporated into the Ceviche.

For the Chilli component of the Ceviche, I think @thebigmexicanrancho adds a bit of their house-made Hot Sauce into the Ceviche which definitely packs a punch to the palate as it has some heat to it and adds another dimension of flavour to the Ceviche.

Overall, the Ceviche had me excited for what was to come food-wise at @thebigmexicanrancho

☆ CHORIZO SAUSAGE ($16)

Sliced Spanish-based Chorizo Sausage has been perfectly pan-fried, allowing the sausages to attain a lovely colour and crust on the surface.

This has been served on a bed of Mixed Salad Leaves and as a diner, you get a choice of Bread or Tortillas. My thought with choosing the Tortilla to go with the Chorizo Sausages was that it was the perfect item to mop up all the delicious juices that leeched out of the Chorizo Sausages on the wooden board.

The addition of Mixed Salad Leaves to the wooden board added some freshness to the appetiser as it offered some relief from the richness of the sliced Chorizo Sausages when eaten together. This was another starter that was delicious and got the appetite going for the rest of the night.

The atmosphere was like visiting the Mexican grandma I don't have. The food was delicious and felt homemade. The Sangria was strong, tasty, and easy to drink

This place is tucked away right down Gymea Bay road you turn right into a clump of small shops kind of like a side street off the main road,you will see the Sombrero hanging off a cactus in the window. The place got packed we arrived at about 6 just before it had more arrivals .Its got a nice look to it inside.They honour seniors cards and give a 10% discount and you can also BYO bottle which I recommend a nice light red goes down very well with Mexican food.First up came the small chicken nacho, oh my delicious ...the wine quickly dissapeared needed another one really it was a friends birthday.I ordered a beef burrito with salad and sour cream, if you go to a Mexican resturant you need to diverge into other things but the Burrito is a good standard measure of how it is, and oh my ...this was good. Slow cooked done to perfection slightly too salty but not to the point of too much.Portions were large and prices were well positioned for the quality.Everybody around was having fun with the hats and enjoyoling the food.Really this place is a gem the locals probably all know about but the rest of sydney is mostly unaware which is kind of good . Id say you probably cant find anything better than this and because I like Mex food is hits as good as it gets ,five stars thumbs up with this they are doing a great job here .

This was a wonderful experience. We had the trio of dips (cheese is necessary), chimichangas, kids nachos, tacos and other Mexican delights. Our 3 kids were immediately accommodated with pencils to use on the tablecloth. The atmosphere was excellent. Great decor, such a warm Mexican feel. There was a tiny delay because the iPad menu wasn’t feeding directly to the kitchen. We were apologised to twice. We didn’t even notice. The kids meal includes a huge ice cream. I couldn’t fault the food. BYO is only $2 corkage.

Food was great! We ordered nachos and chicken fajitas.
The restaurant was very busy, always a good sign.

Food was very very tasty. Don't go without trying the churros for dessert, they're bloody good.

Delicious food. Staff were lovely, food came out fast. Stuffed jalapenos had a kick. My Prawn Yucatan was really good, though a little messy to eat. Next time I'll try the prawn fajitas. Definitely recommend booking any night of the week. We were lucky to walk in and get the last table for 2. Because we like to try different things we had 1 entree, 3 mains which was a little too much. Definitely be back.

The waitresses are lovely the food is good. The highlight is the Chilli Con Queso Dip!!! A flavour fiesta!!!!

Entree and main were delicious with generous helpings. The Churros was ok a little over cooked and the ice cream could've been a better creamier one but a minor blemish. The wait staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful . A restaurant that has been around for 38 years speaks for itself.

If I lived closer, I'd be eating here every week! Delicious food, great portion sizes and amazing staff!

Had dinner for a bday and the staff were lovely and eager to help. The restaurant is bright, happy and colourful and the food is amazing! We started with the trio dips we all (9 of us) ordered different plates and there were no leftovers. Best Mexican I have been to! Definitely recommend.

This Place was amazing it has a great design inside and the music is perfect level for hearing the food was excellent and staff were friendly and continue to be nice and hard working overall good experience
