So pleased to have experienced Birch during our weekend away. Easily the best value fine dining experience we have had in the last 3 years. The quality of food and value for money are exceptional. Friendly and efficient service and so nice to see the owner Glenn on the floor looking after the guests. Already looking forward to coming back! Could not fault anything. Keep up the good work and see you next time. Worth the drive from Sydney just to experience a dinner at Birch.

Honestly delicious.

If you want a gorgeous restaurant in the southern highlands then you need to come here. The ambiance alone is a reason to come to this restaurant.

I came here with my girlfriends the other night and it was delicious. We shared a starter and then ordered mains. The cocktails were delicious, I was expecting the Autumn Warmer to be more like a Negroni than it was but it was still delicious.

They gave us beef carpaccio with truffle Mayo (I believe it was) with garlic chips to start with and I just wanted more, it was delicious!

We shared the school prawns and I can only say order them! They’re crispy and yummy and everything you want in school prawns.

I had the duck Wellington for dinner, if you want something that’s on the bigger side of the mains I recommend this as I only got 1/3 through it! Delicious, non traditional but very yummy.

The gnocchi was yummy along with the beef too!

Overall it was a great experience, if it was to lose points somewhere when we first arrived the service was a little lacking but there was only two of them! Aside from that great experience :) will try to return.

Please be advised you’ll need to book in advance as it’s sold out most nights it’s open!

Every time we go here we love it. The food is of the very best quality: interesting and complex flavours, made from great local ingredients and beautifully presented.

The atmosphere is always good and René really makes the place feel comfortable and welcoming.

It’s not an inexpensive experience but it is worth every $. You will not get such great value in any restaurant I can think of.

Had a fantastic evening at Birch. Service was excellent and degustation portions were very generous. The iced lemon meringue was divine. Would recommend as a ‘must do’ when in the highlands!

We had an event here for my Mum's 60th and I honestly cannot think of a single negative thing to say about this restaurant. It was absolutely amazing! We had a 6 course degustation and every single plate was perfectly created, imaginative and so, so delicious! The serving sizes were just right and no one was left hungry. I have coeliac's disease and every course was made gluten free which was highly appreciated. The service was impeccable. Very accomodating, attentive, kind and welcoming. My 18 month old son was looked after so well and was provided with a HUGE amount of toddler 'finer dining' food he couldn't refuse. 100% recommend and will definitely be back myself. Thank you so much for providing such an enjoyable experience!

Was lucky enough to have Birch cook for a small intimate birthday lunch at a holiday rental we were staying at. The entire process of booking the lunch and choosing the 3-course menu and birthday cake was seamless. Food was amazing and can’t wait for Birch to cook for us again! Would highly recommend it’s in house chef service!

Saturday dinner. Food was amazing. Every mouthful was a flavour sensation. Really loved this place. The care taken with ingredients and construction of each dish was something I have not seen in a while. Must visit. Wine list was different with some gems and well priced for such a restaurant. Excellent.

Dined on a Saturday night, first time in the restaurant. Had the degustation menu, 5 courses plus amuse bouche and a palette cleanser before desert. Beautifully balanced meal, every dish was interesting and delicious. Great service, really engaging and knowledgeable. Looking forward to our next visit.

OH-MY-GOD... AMAZING! We had the chef's Rogue menu with wine pairing and each of the six courses were incredible! Not only the food was great, the two waiters were the most polite, amiable, funny, smiling people we met in our trip to the Southern Highlands ♥ Each dish pretty as a picture, beautifully plated, and each wine pairing served with a detailed explanation of why that wine had been selected to complement the dish. The chef went to great lengths to accommodate my chilli intolerance and replaced with other ingredients in each dish (not just removed the chilli, but replaced with other ingredients that provided a little kick without being too aggressive to my stomach) and they did such a great job, replacing it with mustard seeds in one dish and with pickled cauliflower in other... You can tell they actually had fun trying to step up to the challenge and I was so grateful for it! It almost made me feel special, rather than a nuisance (which is the case in most other places)!

I could only fault one little thing and that is the fourth course was rather cold, which was a bit of a shame, but everything else was so so perfect that I'm still giving them 5 stars (and we did tip generously as they definitely deserved it). We'll return soon!!! Thank you for a dinner we will remember for years to come!!!

Birch is our favorite quality restaurant in the Highlands. The ambience is elegant and quiet, the service knowledgeable and understated, the wine list well matched to the food, but most importantly the FOOD. We dined there on Saturday evening and we thoroughly enjoyed all of our 3 courses - the food is beautifully and imaginatively crafted, the tastes sublime, and there is clearly a lot of skill and talent in the kitchen. Very highly recommended.

This restaurant was such a find! We were looking for a place to have a nice dinner on our way from Melbourne to Sydney and were so lucky to have landed on Birch.

There is a good selection of local wines to choose from. NSW wine is about so much more than the Hunter Valley and Birch is a great place to try some regions like the Southern Highlands, Orange, Mudgee, Tumbarumba etc.

The food was delicious. The tuna trio was an excellent choice. For mains you can't go past the Chateaubriand for two!

Birch restaurant was exactly what we needed after lockdown. Bubbles on arrival, beautiful wine list and the courses were spot on. We went for the vegetarian option (set menu) and every single dish was perfect. The whole experience was well paced and as guests we were very well looked after. Without a doubt we will be back. Thanks again for making our first "date night" in 2.5 months a nice one.

We went here for a quiet birthday dinner and were extremely impressed. Moss Vale really has become the place over the years. Sometimes you feel that the food in restaurants like this can be merging into similar territory but I didn’t find that at all. One dish for example (scallops done three ways - dumpling in broth, sashimi and tempura) was so good it made me gasp - fantastic flavours. Terrific space - well separated, which is reassuring in these times - and attentive and pleasant service. The requirement to be fully vaccinated was also reassuring to someone in close contact with elderly relatives. The spinoff Birchstore at the other end of Moss Vale is also well worth checking out.

Complete surprise package, in the best way. Crazy times in the world at the moment and despite the fact that restaurants are facing one of their toughest phases ever, Shannon and the team delivered a splendid lunch experience to help celebrate Mum’s 75th. The service was excellent (a little slow to get going but afterward, perfectly paced). The food was presented exquisitely, with skill and care and some dishes were - simply put - art. Wine pairings were thoughtful with a focus on synergy with food, not cliché - how refreshing! We’re looking forward to coming back post-lockdown for the degustation to experience everything Chef has to offer. Go check it out, you’ll love it.

An absolutely wonderful experience at Birch. The food was exquisite, with a delicious Mushroom 7 ways that I will be dreaming of for a minimum of 5 months, the service was brilliant and they really knew the style of service that their clients want and the atmosphere was calming and relaxed. A definite restaurant to visit if you're in the Highlands.

An exceptional dining experience. A menu which truly reflects the seasons and the produce of the highlands. Approachable and interesting wine list. The food does not miss - each item a masterpiece of innovation and flavour. The service is friendly, precise and expert. We started with rare cooked tuna matched with seasonal asparagus and an entree of stuffed chicken with prosciutto, both of which were cooked perfectly. The mains featured the best chilli crab pasta I’ve ever had - perfect house made linguini smothered in rich crab meat. The barramundi was paired with the last of the season’s fennel and an indulgent, creamy mash.

Had a fantastic lunch for 8 people. Sat outside in the new courtyard and thoroughly enjoyed the amazing food. Wine list was also really interesting. A must visit in the southern highlands.

Excellent food, service, ambience. very enjoyable. Tried to stick to 2 courses for $45 but the food was so good, we added dessert for the extra $10.
If you are in the Southern Highlands, do yourself a favour.
