I am new to the Belconnen area & was looking for a local Doctor for myself & my family. Not feeling well on Sunday & getting worse, called on Monday for an appointment. Not only was I able to get an appointment, I was seen very close to my allotted time by a lovely, friendly female doctor, who was very thorough & covered my health history, without me feeling like it was the Spanish inquisition. I have contacted the Practice again this evening as my daughter is also unwell. Not only did I get an appointment for early in the morning I was also given very helpful advice on who I should contact in case I felt any concern regarding my daughter for after hours. The staff at reception are very helpful & attentive & I felt reassured that should I need any further assistance I would know where to go without having to wait at the Hospital Emergency Department. First impressions of this practice have exceeded

A note: It would be really appreciated that when one has to discuss very personal information AT reception, that the person dealing with the inquiry, takes her voice down a decibel or two, to protect the patient's privacy AND dignity; It's a shame said person couldn't take her cue from me when I lowered MY voice.
Having my medical information shared with the entire waiting room, is not something to which I subscribe, and I feel fairly confident that other patients would share the same sentiment.
I have been a long-time patient of Dr Ta -- who is an absolute angel (!), and my previous experiences with all of the women on reception, have always been nothing short of professional and supreme helpfulness. Needless to say, I was taken aback today, and more than slightly mortified!
I wish no ill on anyone, only that this experience is taken into consideration.
Thank you -- much appreciated.

I have been a patient of the Hawker Medical Centre for over 35 years, right back to when they were in the old Scullin Health Centre building. I was originally a patient of Dr Jacob Foo and then Dr Paterson Kwan. I just rang to make an appointment and was told that I wouldn't be able to see Paterson because his patient list was closed. I advised that I had seen him before. I was then told that he had been on leave for 12 months and if I hadn't seen him since he had returned from leave then I couldn't make an appointment with him as his patient list is closed. This came as a bit of a surprise because the medication I am on runs out every quarter and to get a new script I have to attend an appointment. I know I had an appointment with Paterson on Thursday 13th March 2014 at 10.15am, which is less than 12 months ago. My medication ran out recently so I need to go back.Dr Kwan was the doctor that I saw for my last script renewal, which was less than 12 months ago. The day that I am able to attend the practice is the 20th February so I asked if I could have an appointment with him then. The reply was that he would be on leave that day. I asked that because my medication has run out and I need it could one of the doctors write me a script and could we make an appointment with Paterson for when he returns. I was told that it was now policy of the practice that no scripts are written without an appointment. So I made an appointment for the 20th Feb with a doctor. I didn't recognise the name so asked who the doctor was and was told that it was one of the new doctors. After the call was completed I accessed the web page because all the doctors used to be listed and it also listed their particular fields of interest. Well now the web page has changed and there aren't any profiles of the doctors at the practice, so I don't know the name of the doctor nor if that doctor has a special field other than general practice. I was not happy with the terse manner of the person that I was speaking to, and I am not happy that I cannot have access to my preferred doctor. The website only provides me with the phone number and address of the practice which I could look up in the yellow pages, if necessary. The ACT Health website lists several practitioners at Hawker Medical Centre but nobody with a name that remotely resembles the doctor that I have been appointed to see. I am also very unhappy that I have to wait another two weeks without medication.

All the receptionist would put calls on hold and then continue chatting among themselves. They did this while I was waiting for my appointment with the doctor for almost 2 hours. This kind of behaviour was quite shocking as I have rang quite a few times and put on hold and I always assumed that they must be really busy. Now, I know the truth and never going back there.

I booked an appointment two months in advance to see doctor Ta with the aim to start having a referral doctor for my self. When I went there the woman at the front desk told me that the doctor couldn’t see me at the time. I asked for explanation and she said that that was the message received by the doctor. They were very unprofessional and rude to me as well. They didn’t not only follow up my appointment but they also refused to explain to me the reason behind such an unprofessional treatment. I will never come back!

Have been going to this practice for 18 years, Dr Kwan was my Doctor I have now found it has changed from a "family orientated we care about your health practice" to a money making machine -- Its like "lets see how many patients we can cram in for a day."
I used to be able to phone up in the early morning and get at least to see a Doc not of my choice. Usually you could get the Doc of choice 2 days out. Now you cant even get in in to see anybody for 2 days only on the third. So when you do get to see a Doctor you have no idea what they do. On 3 occasions I can barely understand what the the Doctor is saying. I have now had enough of this practice and will be leaving it. They really need to take a good look at their services. Their adds spout all the services but they cant deliver. Pretty sad really when you think about it. Bye bye Hawker Medical Practice, Im leaving because you don't care any more..........

After being here almoat 30 years i left, they only care about money, plus they failed to diagonised a common genetic condition that have, then hearing them say oh I need to look in to that but never doing.
But happy to take my money.
My mother care was terriable, being over 50 they never did the basic care for her and endangering her health! They are also very behind and in technology
No email and wont use the my health record even when I ask except of course if I pay a fee. This place has gone down hill, you have ruined what DR Patterson built! Your just money Hungry now.

Very rare to get an appointment within a week, often running more than an hour late with no notice for patients, and red tape abounds.
