If you are seeking an authentic encounter with Australia's natural beauty, your search ends at the Smoky Bay Campground. This is a destination that offers not merely a camping experience, but an enchanting symphony of the best that Mother Nature has to offer. We had the privilege of calling this idyllic place home for five captivating nights, an experience that we will treasure for years to come.

The Smoky Bay Campground is a serene haven nestled in one of Australia's most picturesque corners. From the moment we pitched our camper trailer, we knew we were in for a treat. Our spot was perfectly positioned, providing us with unhindered access to the beach's stunning views and the area's rich array of wildlife.

The wildlife is an integral part of the Smoky Bay experience, with a delightful chorus of birds serenading you at sunrise and kangaroos quietly grazing nearby, unbothered by the human visitors sharing their paradise. Interactions with kookaburras, native doves, and butcher birds felt like stepping into a live documentary, where the wall between humans and nature is beautifully blurred. These animals were not only comfortable with our presence but seemed almost sociable, adding to the magic of this place.

The beach is an absolute standout, and we were immediately captivated by its pristine beauty. A short stroll from our camping spot, we were met with waves gently lapping at the shimmering sands. The morning walks were particularly spectacular, with the rising sun casting an enchanting glow on the landscape. The inviting waters were perfect for cooling off after a day of exploring, and the beach's expanse provided ample room for beachcombing and fishing, free from the typical beach crowds.

The campground itself is well-maintained, with clean facilities. The site is well-planned, providing the necessary albeit basic but clean amenities without detracting from the area's beauty.

Smoky Bay Campground provided us with a true escape, a return to nature that was refreshing in its simplicity and profound in its impact. It’s not just a place where you camp; it's a place where you engage with the environment, make unlikely friends with local fauna, and experience the beauty of unspoiled nature in all its glory.

Our stay at Smoky Bay was not just a holiday, but an immersion into a living, breathing world that reminded us of the beauty that exists when we take a moment to step away from our busy lives. If you're looking for a holiday that offers both serenity and excitement, Smoky Bay Campground is the perfect destination. We are already planning our return trip.

What a fantastic camp. Nice spot. Lots of animals visiting. I like that you can pick your own spot. You can have a fire. Short walk to the beach.

One of the best campsites I've been to. Absolutely beautiful. So beautiful, so peaceful and right on the beach. I was visited by very friendly kangaroos and one sneaky monitor lizard. $20 for a beach driving permit.

This was an amazing trip to South West Rocks, staying at Smoky Cape Campground. In comparison to the other local camp sites this one is quiet and secluded with tonnes of privacy.

Camp sites are large spacious, 5 minute walk to the beach, and you can hear the waves all night long. Staff are amazing and very kind. During my trip on the last day, some of the locals and camp staff were pulling weeds out of the sand dunes and I offered a hand for 10 minutes and they invited me to join them for morning tea, which was eaten beside a hidden waterfall a short 2 minute walk from the beach! Throughout my trip I'd walked up and down the beach as well as sat at the beach had not a clue the waterfall was there. I did not have my phone on me, so I did not get a photo but it was stunning.

4x4 access to the beach at the camp site, and the beach seems quite decent for driving on.

A lot of people complain about the amenities here, but it is exactly as stated, drop toilets that of course smell, and no running water or gas BBQs. But fires in fire pits are allowed, byo bbq allowed and there is no where as many people at this site in comparison to the other local camp sites.

All in all, really enjoyed my stay, even if it rained a bit, and I cut my foot on oysters chasing mud crabs 😅👌

Lovely place and for only $12 a night right near the beach where you may come across more Kangaroo's than people

Awesome place to camp, a bit far from Sydney but it's absolutely worst it. Plenty of space. Make sure you book it online prior coming because of the COVID situation.

Great campground with a beautiful beach, good spot for fishing. It feels private and the campsite

Lots of shady sites and wildlife (kangaroos, goannas and birds). Rangers came around every morning and cleaned the toilets and checked in with campers. 4WD beach access - beach pass not sold from rangers, but can buy from Rocks Marine Bait & Tackle in South West Rocks

Camp grounds have just had a heap of work done. New mulch on the ground and well defined camp spots.
