Very nice Malaysian restaurant in Kew, accessible by transport, two tram services.
The atmosphere is Malaysian and the inside is quite nice. There are not too many tables but the place can get busy on weekends, so if you are two or more, I would recommend booking.
The food is really tasty and you can select from a good variety of chicken, beef, pork cans seafood.
The prices are moderate and affordable.
If you like to try something different that you don’t usually see too often, try the sweet and sour prawns (yes, prawns, not pork, although they have the pork as well).
I would recommend a visit to this restaurant.

Beautiful fresh and delicious food at a family run restaurant. Simple interior, kids up the back entertaining themselves while the older kids and adults run front of house and kitchen - a sure indicator you're in for some great authentic home style food. And it delivers in bags - everything was delicious, but especially the curry puffs and roti with curry sauce. Definitely returning.

A small family style Malaysian restaurant at a busy Kew Junction. There is street parking in the front and more parking at the back. The food is authentic and the serving portion is generous. The highlight for me is the CKT. The Wat Tan Hor is good too. The Chicken Laksa tastes good but the soup is a bit thick to my liking. I will definitely be back to try other dishes.

In-Depth Review:

Food 5/5
*Nasi Lemak Beef - Extremely soft melt in your mouth beef, paired with coconut rice, the usual Nasi Lemak toppings. Each ingredient was perfectly seasoned. Best Nasi Lemak in Melbourne!
*Fried Rice Noodles Beef & Seafood - These noodles are easily the best Hor Fun easily I've had in Melbourne and Malaysia! The beef noodles however was really oily, so less would be ideal, but the seafood was spicy and had a big kick of spice, but was absolutely delicious with the "Wok Hei" element
*Lobak - Freshly fried, resembled a fried Sausage Roll, cut in slices. Unique, but having more than 2 slices was too heavy for me. Definitely keep this in moderation!
*Roti - Harder than usual, it could be softer or less heat applied. This is probably my only feedback!

Value 10/5
*For the price you pay, it's 100% worth it! Save yourself a ticket to Malaysia and just come to Kew!

Atmosphere 4/5
*No Frills Style Restaurant. Nothing special but nothing amazing to mention. Clean and bright.

Customer Service 5/5
*No issues, friendly and professional.

Overall
*Save money by going here, not buying a ticket to Malaysia! Excellent food, do not miss this if you are after Melbourne's Best Malaysian! I liked the lemon infuser water offered as well! The Roti could be softer so maybe pan fry it or apply less heat.

Very impressed by their fried chicken wings coated with salted egg yolk. The wings were crispy outside and juicy inside. Salted egg added creamy and rich flavour. Soooo yum. The Sambal okra was delicious as well. The Sambal sauce was spicy and blended well with okra. Will go there next time and try other dishes.

I am so glad I came here. Such great flavours! Had the combination curry laksa, and now I cannot wait to go back again!

Great serving size, just perfectly spiced, and cooked superbly.

Newly opened Malaysian restaurant at Kew serving up very simple Malaysian dishes.

🍤 creamy prawns - its a Malaysian style butter milk creamy fried prawns
🐷 pork trotter vinegar - nicely braised pork trotted with nice spices
🐔 golden salted egg yolk chicken wings served with fried wonton skins
🍚 a serve of very fragrant coconut / pandan steamed rice - short grain rice and moist

The Penang Prawn Mee was a revelation. The broth was the star, exuding an authentic taste that transported me straight to the streets of Penang. Rich and flavorful, it harmoniously blended both prawn and pork essences. The prawns were fresh and succulent, while the pork ribs, cooked to perfection, added depth to the dish. The noodles, with their spot-on texture, acted as the perfect canvas, soaking up the broth's flavors and enhancing the overall experience.

Complementing this noodle dish was the Sambal Ladyfingers. The sambal was impeccably tasty, bringing a heat that was perfectly balanced. The ladyfingers themselves were a textural delight - tender on the inside while preserving that characteristic crunch on the outside. Together, the sambal and crunchy ladyfingers created a dish that was both satisfying and memorable.

In conclusion, both the Penang Prawn Mee and the Sambal Ladyfingers are must-tries for anyone seeking an authentic Malaysian dining experience. These dishes are a testament to the magic of Malaysian culinary artistry, and I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone looking for a flavorful journey.

Following several recent closures of local Malaysian eateries, we have been searching for a new place to go. Penang Corner fits the bill. They are located right in the heart of Kew Junction not far from well known establishments like the Skinny Dog and QPO. There is a modest, yet bright and welcoming interior. The menu comes in written as well as illustrated formats and has all the usual Malaysian favourites. We tried the Char Kway Teow, Curry Laksa, Beef Rendang and Hainanese Chicken Rice amongst others. The food was tasty and authentic. Service was efficient. We will be back.

We highly recommend this Malaysian restaurant. This place is not dressed up like modern restaurant: it has no fanfare furniture or decorations. But what it lacks is made up by the flavour and authenticty of its food. Our family can't go without their Hokkien Char Mee, Fried Kuay Teow, Curry Laksa and Har mee. It is run by a lovely family who originated from Penang. One thing I would love introduced into their menu is an array of authentic desserts like Cendol and ice kacang...but maybe that is a blessing in disguise for my waistline.

Amazing food and service since they opened. Confirmed authentic by Malaysians. Makes us very nostalgic when we eat here. Friendly and jovial team. A regular favourite whenever in area… very sad the Satay Inn closed. Very grateful this place is open! Every dish will not disappoint those who miss food in Malaysia. From char Kuey Tiaw to Roti Canai to Lobak to Beef Rendang to Nasi Lemak to Chicken Curry to… happily going thru the menu.

22 June 2022: Have been looking & hoping to find a new Malaysian restaurant since the closing of Penang Coffee House in Hawthorn & Malay Kitchen in Camberwell moving to Box Hill.
Thankfully, look no more, as we now have a new & fabulous restaurant in Penang Corner, Kew. The laksa is exquisite. Great that they serve a Vegetarian Laksa as well. Will be back to sample other dishes as soon as possible. Highly recommended 👍

Char Kway Teow and Prawn Noodles tasted really good. Prawn noodles were surprisingly spicy with lots of ingredients and noodles! 👍🏼 Polite service and nice ambience.

Best vegetarian curry laksa. We're from interstate staying in Kew for a month of work so were wrapped we tried this place after walking past it a few times. We have limited cooking options where we're staying so eating out adds up but Penang Corner is value for money. You won't be disappointed.

Just around the corner from where I live is this new entry to the Malaysian food scene. The CKT is very authentic and the prices are really reasonable. Highly recommended.
