We had a wonderful stay at Ashdowns. The host, Gary makes every effort to make your stay memorable. The breakfasts are wonderful and we enjoyed fresh veggies from his garden. He was very helpful and informative for planning itineraries in the area. Highly recommend this B&B and host!

We very much enjoyed our stay at this charming B&B. The host, Gary, is thoughtful and thinks ahead -- offering to make dinner arrangements for us before we even arrived! He also is informative and responsive to any need, real or imagined. We appreciated his tips, not just about Dover, but about other places in Tasmania. The rooms are clean and comfortable; the property is lovely; the breakfast is filling! We cannot imagine staying anywhere else.

Eight days into our Tasmanian adventure and definitely the BEST accommodation. Reasonably priced (the tariff includes a delicious cooked breakfast for discerning carnivores and vegetarians), the rooms are immaculate and the property, postcard perfect, with a divine vista of rolling green hills from the breakfast table. Our ‘host with the most’, Gary, could not do enough for us.He is a wealth of Tasmanian knowledge, welcoming, personable and always up for the most interesting conversation.
I cannot recommend Ashdowns highly enough…just brilliant! I look forward to a return visit!

We enjoyed our stay greatly. So much attention to detail, and wonderful communication.

Breakfast was outstanding - and enough for a small army! It really set us up for a day of sightseeing.

What an amazing experience, If you look up english hospitality in the dictionary there would be a photo of Garry next to the description, this was the most amazing place I ever stayed at, nit because it was fancy or 5 star but because he treats his guests with respect and truly appreciates you.

This was our second stay at Ashdowns of Dover and once again we were impressed by everything Gary and Lorraine have to offer. On arrival we received a welcome drink which was a delicious home made warm mulled wine. The room was spacious with a super comfy King bed and a very well equipped bathroom. A delicious cooked breakfast was prepared by our lovely host Gary and we enjoyed every mouthful. The hosts gave us great recommendations for things to do in the region and we left there having thoroughly enjoyed our stay. If you are in the Far South of Tasmania, you must stay at Ashdowns of Dover.

I spent 3 nights at Ashdowns of Dover. Gary is an excellent hosts, a great conversationalist and a fabulous cook. Breakfasts are substantial and one night I took Gary up on his offer to prepare a two course evening meal which was delicious.
I spent an enjoyable time watching the young lambs gambolling about in the paddock outside the guest lounge room and I loved looking through Gary's extensive library and getting some good recommendations from him.
Dover is the last town of any size on the southern tip of Tasmania. From it you have easy access to Cockle Creek, the Hartz Mountains and the Huon Valley and many different walking tracks.
All in all I had a delightful stay in a beautiful part of the world.

Absolutely stunning B&B and terrific value for money! The room was super clean and comfy and had everything one needs for a night (or more if you’re lucky enough to have extra time).
Gary goes out of his way to make sure you are comfy and welcome, which included a delicious homemade breakfast. We sat outside with a magnificent fire after dinner enjoying a bottle of red that was available for purchase.
The farm animals and a platypus sighting in the creek were simply delightful!
Thanks Gary, much appreciated. Ian and Cheryl

**Highly recommended**
I'm happy to giving more than 5 stars.
Thanks a lot for the Gary's sincere hospitality, you are the perfect host. Even the kitty is a friendly and welcoming hosting member.
I won't forget the homemade orange cake that was be served after check-in. It is soooo good. Breakfast was good too and was served in a dinning room where with a spectacular look out.
The place is cozy and clean, definitely no complaints. It is closed to a plenty of attractions and walking tracks. We wish we can stay few days more.
Thanks again for giving us a memorable time.

My partner and I spent two nights at Ashdowns, and we can not sing their praises enough. Gary and Lorraine go above and beyond with their service. The room was beautiful and the food is incredible, if you get the chance definitely eat in! Gary makes an incredible panna cotta! We got to meet the chickens and sheep, and there is a beautiful spot outside to enjoy the fire pit that looks over the gorgeous property. We can see why they have won all the awards on their walls, they were hands down one of the best places we have EVER stayed. Be sure to ask Gary about the beautiful pictures on the walls, he has some remarkable stories to share from his travels and life overseas. Thank you again, for such a wonderful experience (and we loved the cave, saw so many glow worms!)

Ashdowns of Dover was the perfect base for us to explore the gems of the Far South. Our room was spacious and very comfortable, with lots of thoughtful touches and creature comforts. Gary provided us a wealth of knowledge about the area and was more than happy to go out of his way to help. He cooked us a beautiful full country breakfast each morning, complete with his amazing homemade jams (a must try!). A lot of love and care has evidently been put into the property, including stories of worldly travels and a plethora of information about the area. We loved being able to roam the property, from feeding lambs to trying our luck spotting a platypus in the river. A very wholesome, friendly and welcoming experience...We can't recommend Ashdowns of Dover highly enough!!

We had a wonderful time at Ashdowns of Dover. The rooms had everything we could possibly want. The view and the lovely warm fire outside was so relaxing. Garry was an amazing host, very informative, friendly and the meals where absolutely fantastic, I’m vegan and can honestly say they are the most enjoyable meals I have had out ever. Nothing was too much trouble.

Located on a large block with a little flowing creek hideaway down the back. A cosy fire pit to chill out, have a few bevvies in the quiet surrounds after a day exploring. Gary is an awesome host who is friendly and will go above and beyond to cater to your every need. Breakfast was delicious every time. Fresh veggies from his garden, eggs from his (very tame and love a cuddle) chooks and preserves that he makes himself. Gary has great advise on what to see and do and is a big supporter of all things local. This is an awesome location to either chill out for the day or use it as a base to explore the Southern area. Lots of little hidden beaches a short drive away towards Cockle Creek or day trips to explore Hastings caves or the Tahune airwalk. Do yourself a favour and stay at least 3 nights, you will not be disappointed.

Gary, our Host was extremely welcoming and very knowledgeable about the area. The accommodation was absolutely beautiful in every aspect along with a substantial breakfast he cooked for us. If you are looking to stay at a very well equipped and beautiful B&B, well this is the place. Thanks for your hospitality Gary. Oh and we did spot a platypus exactly where you said.
