Hawkers green cottages

Thank you Rae & Michael for having me. It gives me a sense of home when I stay here. This cottage is like a piece of artwork, created by R&M. The room is nice and warm, tidy and clean. The surrounding area is quiet and beautiful. R&M are one of the best hosts I've ever met.

Hands down the most appalling encounter in an Air bnb I have EVER experienced! As someone who has utilised the Air BnB platform internationally & all over Australia without a hitch, this was a total doozy. My friend was turning 50 and I had arranged to stay at this property as it was in close proximity to a local tavern. As the tavern accommodation was booked out for the evening this seemed a good alternative. We arrived at the property and settled in. We were meeting with another couple & the tavern had a private function until 8pm so we suggested that couple number 2 come to our accommodation for a glass of champagne and a bite to eat prior to heading out. Not a party nor an event nor additional guests staying. We literally had just poured a glass of champagne when the owner knocked on the door (the cottage stands alone so we can only assume he lives nearby and watches his guests - slightly creepy) He asked how many people were staying, I replied 2, he then stated that it was only for 2 people, I said yes it’s myself & my friend staying and the others were there for a short visit prior to us heading out. He would not allow this and kept insisting that it was for two people only. By this point I could clearly see that this man, who’s approach to the entire situation was comical really, made me feel a little more uneasy than I was willing to tolerate. I requested a refund and told him we would leave the property. To this he agreed. So my friend & I repacked our food and belongings and left!! Utterly ridiculous. The statement of “no additional guests” should actually read strictly no visitors. The youngest of us was mid 40’s so being treated like we were naughty teenagers was actually amusing…. and rather weird! To that end & that unfortunate encounter aside, the accommodation itself is quite lovely, however you really need a 4wd to cope with the appalling public road to the property. So many pot holes! It is also in very close proximity to a very large Salmon Farm and processing facility so there are many large and heavy trucks driving straight past the front and an enormous amount of workers cars constantly passing through. For the rate charged there are many much more attractive options available for accommodation in the beautiful far south.
