It is a relativly challenging walk, wich you better take a whole day for in your planing, but the astonishing view from the summit is worth every slippery step and spicky Bush on the way up.

Just off the road at the start of the track is a board walk leading to the historic log tramway. There are a couple of faded information boards. It's an easy walk and worth a look.

Great track if you don't mind getting a bit muddy and occasionally finding your own path.

This is a moderate to hard walk. The climb is from 200m to 1200m The track is well marked but does include some climbing through rain forrest across the plateau and then a bushy track around the eastern peak to the ridge and then open scree and alpine vegetation with scoparia to the high point with summit cairn to the West.
It is initially along some boardwalk and old logging tram track that does include some information boards on logging in this area but the informative signs are degraded to the point of barely being readable. The initial boardwalk and walk along logs that were part of the original tramway can be quite slippery when wet. Plenty of lyrebird activity along these sections through the rainforrest. There is a brief respite from climbing across manuka flats which had minimal muddy sections. The climb then ascends to the plateau where there is an old stone structure which is now missing wooden structures.

Never do it again ! I could have die the other day. Police and helicopter saved my life and they found me at 12am in the forest. I got lost on the way back down and I was very lucky that my phone had reception otherwise they would never find me! The track is very unclear in some areas and you can get lost very easy.
I run out of water and food and also my legs were cover with blood due to the darkness and too many logs and branches in my way.
There are some pink ribbons through the tracks to find your way but they should marked this ribbons like every 20 meters and NOT every 500 meters! Stupid idea! And also in the beginning of the walk , they should write on the platform that how many hours takes to get to the summit.
It’s not worth it at all!

Ps. 5 hours walk each way.
