Coming from Malaysia, we found the best Malaysian restaurant not in any part of Malaysia but in Sydney. Look like Australia has hijacked our best chef.

They served most of Malaysian favourite like nasi lemak and hainanese chicken rice. We ordered all the chef’s recommendation on menu board. Their Kam Heong prawn and Har Cheong chicken are full of flavour. Silky tofu also very unique like eating taufu pudding. But the most unforgettable dish is curry fish head. It was the best I ever tasted. The sweet and savoury aroma of curry, a perfect balance with spiciness and creaminess couple to huge meaty long dan fish head.

When long for taste of home on holiday, Malacca Straits on Broadway is a place to go.

This is a little hidden gem. I lived in Singapore for 10 years and have tasted a lot of Malaysian food in the region and in Australia. The Char Kway Teow at Malacca Straits was some of the best I have tasted - and generous serve. The staff were pleasant and service prompt. the simple dining arrangements complemented the food and service offering.

Been there 3 times in the last 3 weeks. I have not had a bad experience yet. The laksa was full of flavour, curry beef was soft and tender, the fried prawns were light and crispy the chicken was tender and juicy. Love it!

Really enjoyable dinner, wirh Chef Tan suggesting several of the 4 dishes we shared between 4ppl which along with chicken rice was the right amount. My fave dishes were the Kam Heong prawns and the melt in the mouth tofu dish. The Murtabak and succulent Hainan chicken also on point. Will definitely be back soon.

THE FOOD IS FANTASTIC AND THE SERVICE IS UNMATCHED.
This is the third time I have tried this restaurant and every time the food keeps getting better. I ordered Nasi Lemak with beef rendang, the beef is so tasty and I finished it in a sec. The beef is soft and the chicken is tasteful but not too spicy. I ask them if they could give me more rice and that said sure (without hvin to pay more). They even added more curry to me for free as they saw that my rice is a bit plain. I assume it’s a family business and all the waiters are very friendly and attentive. I would recommend this to anyone !!!

Do not judge this place by its location (as it's essentially in a courtyard area of an apartment building). I'm not local to the Broadway area so took a chance walking here as I'd seen some reviews online. Boy did this place not dissapoint. Ordered the Hainan chicken - which although not Malaysian was perfect nonetheless, the nasi goreng, roti with beef rendang and a special prawn dish. Cannot wait to go back and try some of the more unique dishes on the menu.

Delicious and consistent food. Cheap and cheerful eatery tucked way just off Broadway. Obviously a favourite with the locals but once you know, you know.
Be brave and order things you have not had before or even heard of. You won’t be disappointed. BYO.

July 2019 update - Still very reliable and one of the best.
One of my favourite Malaysian eateries in Sydney. Fresh coconut cream means the Nasi Lemak is as it should be. Ayam Goreng and Hainan Chicken are wonderful too. The prices are fair.

A truly unexpected gem. I came looking for Malaysian food but I was more than pleased with everything. The food has that authentic subtle hard to describe taste that you only get when you're in the streets of asia. And the friendly family that serves really makes the experience feel like an authentic homey resto. Add to that eating while facing the plaza with the fountain, then you get an experience that is both delicious, heart warming and relaxing all at the same time. Will definitely be a regular.

What a fabulous find!!!! Incredible food and service, in a very low key venue. You must have the char kway teo and the roti canai. Kapitan chicken also amazing. I was transported to a Hawker stall in Singapore where the very best of Singaporean/Malaysian food is found. We've found a new regular place to eat out and I encourage you to try it. Thank you Malacca Straits.

Havent really had any of good range of South-east Asian style food before knowing place! Highly recommended!

Pleasant staff and pleasant experience. Quality of food pretty close to Singapore/ Malaysia cuisine flavors.

My first experience having Malaysian dish and this place serve delicious foods and full of spices. This place is a must to try in Broadway area and maybe preferred to book a table as it was full house when we left.

Underrated gem of a restaurant tucked in a hidden corner.

Truly a master-class in Malaysian Cuisine in the middle of Ultimo.

If you'd be so adventurous you could even BYO crab for the Chef to cook!

BYO alcoholic bevs as well

This hidden gem is fast becoming our favorite for Malaysian food.

The vegetarian laksa is top notch. The broth is a good balance of spicy, sweet and creamy— and leaves you feeling satisfied but also wanting more.

The eggplant stir-fried in salted duck egg yolks and curry leaves is out of this world YUM— it’s even more moreish than the laksa. Pair it with the coconut rice and you’ve got the most heavenly food coma coming your way 😇

This place is dangerously addictive 🧡

Hidden gem! We started eating our meal and I immediately stopped to take a photo so I could share it on here. Service was very friendly and quick. The depth of flavour at this place was legit, highly recommend.

The laksa at this place is so delicious, easily my favourite laksa in Sydney. I’ve previously read that this establishment makes their own coconut milk, which would explain the top-notch quality of their soup. Haven’t tried anything else on the menu, I am too loyal to the laksa. Chicken laksa is $15 and the beef variation is $16.80

A good reliable haunt for lunch that’s close to work. Prices are VERY reasonable and good value for money for the portions you get. My favourites are the ayam perchik and the chikuteh. Lunch special Hainan chicken rice is also delicious. Prefer to come here over spice alley which gives you less for more $$
