In a word: Fantastic. A great place to have a meal and well worth the spend to have a great time. Great interior and easy location to get to and no traffic noise.

The staff are friendly and attentive, and special requests for the booking were accommodated. Really appreciate the extra efforts they went to for us.

The tasting menu was really great. Each course came out promptly, and tables cleared as you finished each dish quickly as well.

Quality and flavour of the food is top notch. Very well designed menu, enjoyable meals and presentation really great.

Was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had this year.

This was a much anticipated dinner out with my best friend last month, and it did not disappoint! The food was very flavoursome with interesting combinations, and cooked to perfection. The restaurant decor was minimalistic yet inviting and the staff were lovely and friendly with great service. I'm a massive dessert lover, but the chilli mango dessert was... let's say, a very odd pairing 🤣 But, the berry and yoghurt dessert that followed was sublime. Definitely a restaurant to return to.

First time eating here and it was highly recommended by friends. Not my usual type of restaurant or cuisine but wanted to try something different for a special occasion.
We very much appreciated the different combination of flavours and presentation that went into each plate of the tasting menu.
The service was flawless and the staff very knowledgeable. The minimalist decore style of the restaurant was also appealing.
While it was a costly dinner with the beverage pairing added in as well, as a special occasion once off, we’re glad to have experienced it.

Wonderful food and fabulous service. Very interesting wine list. Food is seafood heavy, but beautifully cooked (or raw) and presented. Refined space of raw concrete and minimalist decor but not noisy at all. Si sad it is closing.

It’s quite unusual nowadays for a restaurant do mains (and desserts) better than entrĂ©es!

Love the Nori grouper and the wagyu tri tip the most among the savoury courses, cooked to perfection with a very harmonious taste. Desserts were excellent! Cleared the plate even tho we were quite full. The long pepper and porcine gives a very balance but intriguing flavour profile to the desserts (and they are not too sweet) that could let you easily inhaled them all.

However the cocktails are a bit too plain/watery to my taste 😅

Overall a good experience! Very friendly environment! :)

.

One of the my favourite meals that I have had yet, flavours on point and so was the plating and attention to detail.
The only sauce I wasn't fan was on the quail serving, all the sauces on rest of my courses were spectacular. I still have dreams about the tomato serving, so simple and so so so good. The hapuka and squid were so good too. Hoping to come back once more before it closes. Maybe the desserts could have been a tad bit better, I wasn't a big fan of the plum.
And if I forgot to mention that the wine was one of my favourite parts of the dinner.
9/10 would definitely come again!

Awesome experience at Automata. We’ve booked a $165 menu but we decided to have an ‘upgrade’ to an Extended menu, totally worth it and we enjoyed every single dishes.

It’s a commitment to book but it’s totally worth it, we are glad we’ve got here to had the good. Asian inspired and real innovations in ingredient. Good uses of ingredients and Australian native herbs.

Will come back definitely when the restaurant has a new menu. 100% recommended!

Second time coming here with my wife. We had the 5 course menu. The service here is one the best we've experienced among the chef hat restaurants. Very attentive to small details and makes you feel welcomed. Food wise, I find it a bit different to others in term of the combination of ingredients used but it works and taste great! Standout dishes were the coral prawns and parfait dessert. Overall, at the price that they charge coupled with the service and atmosphere, it's a fair value in my opinion.

First time eating here before the restaurant close definitely (December 17th I recommend to try it).
We very much appreciated the different combination of flavours and presentation that went into each plate of the extended tasting menu.
The service was flawless and the staff very knowledgeable. The minimalist decore style of the restaurant was also appealing.
We’re glad to have experienced it.

Honestly a dining highlight of the last 2 years for me - every element was perfect. Staff were great, knowledgeable and personable and friendly which alot of high end restaurants get wrong (they think you want some 'white glove' deferential waiter/slave).

Booze pairing was great overall, though i didn't love the Riesling. I do love a place that strays from the wine only pairings.

Food highlights were the squid, pistachio tart and the Jerusalem artichoke dessert.

At just over three hours of eating my biggest tip is go on an empty stomach!

Innovative is a good word to describe Automata. Strongly recommend the complete tasting menu to experience the full range of the Automata team's creativity. Some very interesting flavour combinations and unique use of ingredients, so definitely expect to taste something new here. The presentation is also outstanding and the service amazing (major props to Ebony)!

Overall an enjoyable experience and certainly one to try out.

I was very impressed with the design of the menu and thought the flavours were cleverly selected to showcase a variety of native Australian ingredients. There were some flavour combinations (eg kiwi and tomatoes, liquorice and pineapple) I didn’t think I’d like, but ended up really enjoying them! It’s very refreshing to see restaurants use flavour combinations which are not your typical flavours (~Visited April 2021)

A delightful night out - bookings are essential, and weekdays are best. They have a nice bar where you can wait with one of their unique cocktails. I thoroughly enjoyed the food and the staff were so friendly!! Nice atmosphere and most of the wine pairings with the dishes were good. There were some misses, but I get the feeling that it's a constant work in progress.

Amazing experience. The 7 course menu was great. The entrees were my favourite, followed by the pasta. The pastry was incredible. Really liked the chocolate mousse sort of dessert at the end.
Can be a bit expensive but would recommend trying.

One of better experiences I've had with fine dining where I'm not hungry afterwards.

It was a master class of delicious flavours in each bite. I particularly remember the delicious whipped butter as part of the fish course... It was to die for!

High recommended and their service was great too.

Wow this place has solidified itself as my new favourite restaurant in Sydney. Came to Automata for my birthday dinner, tried their tasting menu with no prior expectations and was absolutely blown away. Every single dish was plated with absolute precision and thoughtfully crafted with a perfect balance of flavour. Quite often high end restaurants trade quality for aesthetics or they boast an "innovative/kooky" flavour combination at the risk of losing out on the flavour profile but Automata is nothing like this. Automata heralds ordinary produce in the most beautiful, dignified way - ensuring each ingredient is at its peak in every dish.
We also had the pleasure of speaking with Clayton (head chef) who was extremely personable and deeply passionate about his craft. One thing that stood out to me in our conversation is the fact that Clayton spent a few hours a day hand peeling mini tomatoes for his 'pickled tomatoes with a basil oil and tomato broth' dish. This is truly a testament to his philosophy of good food and speaks to the heart of what Automato is truly like. 🤍

Definitely an exhilarating culinary experience. We being Vegetarians had serious concerns going into the restaurant.

We're presently surprised and thoroughly enjoyed creation of Chef Clayton Wells whipped up five course meal. A feast to eyes and as well to palate, Each of his creations were visually a stroke of art. Perfectly balanced flavors making them truly perfect dishes.

Thank you Chef for giving us a truly unique culnury experience. A perfect ending to your Australian trip

This is a fantastic restaurant. The food is beautifully presented and absolutely delicious, with real complexity of flavours. They cater well for all dietary requirements. The service was great, the perfect balance of attentive but not annoying. It's great also being able to watch what's going on in the kitchen. Highly recommend!

I'm so glad we went here for our 5 year anniversary dinner. Each dish of the 10(?) courses was incredible but also progressed into a modern flavour journey. Lighting was perfect for taking food pics. Loved listening to the somm share stories of the drinks from the wine pairing. You're in for a treat if the Murray cod with the braised fennel and Geraldton wax is on the menu - I'm still thinking about it 4 days later.

Super cool urban style and New York feel. The food is spectacular, and the service is something else. We ate at the bar, and never had to look for someone to help us decide on which items we wanted to swap into the set menu. The wines were perfectly matched. A stand out surprise was house baked bread with an airy butter infused with chicken wing jus and anchovy - OMG. We are still talking about it.
