Take the tour - you won’t be disappointed.
Great spot to visit, full of interesting history and you can see the gun up close. The view is also spectacular

We went on a Sealink Grand Island tour. The guide was friendly and went through a detailed tour of the place. It was very interesting and we could see a lot inside it. A complex but safe network of tunnels that are regularly maintained.

Stunning couple of hours up here. My daughter had booked it as an afterthought to the train trip. But wow was it worth it. Very interesting history and such knowledgeable guides. And the view! Just do it

Very interesting being taken on a tour of the gun battery. Very well maintained, so much so that it looks like it could still be used today. Never actually fired in anger, maybe that's why it has survived so well. Accessed easily on the train you can catch from the edge of the settlement. Great long distance view over the lagoon towards Perth, which really does show you how small Perth is.

Took this tour combined with train ride up to the battery.
Enthusiast volunteers took us on an hour long tour throughout the battery. Our guide was very knowledgeable and was happy to answer off the cuff questions. While the tour includes 150 steps down, there was no rush. The steps up were different (outside) and again, I thought not too onerous and worth doing if you are in two minds of doing the steps. If you don't do the steps down to the engine room, the tour is still a worthwhile experience.

It is a great historical landmark on the island. A guided tour was well worth it as Lise and Pauline explained exactly how the gun operated

Yvonne is a godsend of a volunteer.

She gave a mate and I a personal tour of the battery and all the works on its inception, construction, operation, firing range, strategic position and a rundown of other batteries and points of interest on the island.

I’m not sure what her schedule looks like, though we came over on a Monday if I’ve hyped you up enough.

Thanks heaps Yvonne!

Either part of a tour down the tunnels or make your own way to the gun and surrounds, interesting and educational

Other than the quokkas, Oliver Hill Battery is a must see on Rottnest Island. Take the scenic train ride up the hill and the wonderful volunteers will show you around the gun turret and tunnels.

Exploring the tunnels was an unexpected highlight of my time on Rottnest. We rode to the Oliver Hill Battery from the settlement. I highly recommend the ebikes! The tour was great, quite an extensive and preserved labyrinth of tunnels and chambers left over from the war era activities on the island.

The train ride up then the tunnels at gun battery was great.
The volunteer team did really well considering being swamped by 2 school groups and one group of adults around 30ppl + 60 school students

If im back in winter probably do again when less ppl are on the tour

This is a must see when visiting Rottnest Island. It’s a couple of kilometres from town by bike or there is a bus and train you can take to get there.
This hill was deconstructed so the tunnels could be built and then rebuilt to house the Gun.
A guide tour is definitely recommended as the guides are very knowledgeable and make the tour interesting and well worth the $20 for a family ticket.
You will be in awe of the effort that went in to protecting the Port of Fremantle before and during WWII.
If you are riding there is a pretty big hill to walk up to get to the top but it’s not to difficult.
There are a few steps along the tunnels to negotiate.

Very fascinating with the information about Oliver Hill Battery in WWII and how this historical place protected the Fremantle Harbor in case of any attack as Fremantle Harbor was the Port of all our Navy submarines and ships

I went on a guided tour through Olvier Hill Battery. The tour guide was relaxed and very informative. We got to see the inner workings on the guns and also when the guns we're set up by the British. Please take the tour because you will find out about our colonial Australian war history.
