The menu was great in a lot of ways, the salmon, the Wagyu and the chips were great and the cod was worth every bit!
It's BYO alcohol which is good in some ways, just be prepared.
The staff know their menu, definitely give it a go 🙂

We have been here a few times and it is very remiss of me not to have left a review.

This restaurant is outstanding. Really. Outstanding. The sort of food you would expect to sit down and enjoy in one of the world's major cities. And yet we have it here on our doorstep in Mt Hawthorn. Lucky us.

Every dish is delicious. Try them all.

Oh, and it is BYO. Winning.

This just became one of my new favourite Japanese place! Service was friendly, the food was so good. Best dishes for me was the assorted tacos especially the spicy salmon and the eggplant filling, the assorted sashimi plate was amazing, unami chips with chilli mayo and the wagyu tataki which just melted in your mouth. FYI this place is BYO beer, wine and sake.

Fantastic experience last night out with Tsukaya.

We've made a last minute reservation and we got lucky, nice spring wether with a cozy gas stove on side. Staffs are friendly, fast and attention to details.

Food quality is PERFECT. Ingredients are fresh, well presented with a nice little touch of mild taste.

We'll definitely be back!

10/10. Tsukaya this is love ❤ Every time we come here, it feels like we are experiencing this amazing artistry for the first time. Eyes roll back, silence befalls the table and pure gastronomic bliss ensues. That miso cod is to die for. End of story. Done. I’m good to go. But everything is a delight. The thicker cut sashimi allows you to truly appreciate the quality of the produce, scallop tiradito is a perfect balance is sweet, spicy and fresh, tempura prawn roll is a must… Just order everything. Pepe Tsukayama you are a master of your craft and we so friggin love what you do. If you haven’t been here, you must. Vibrant casual dining atmosphere. Friendly attentive staff. And just the most amazing Japanese cuisine with a Peruvian twist. Truly wonderful.

I journeyed from Brisbane to Perth with the sole purpose of savoring the renowned culinary delights of Pepe's establishment!

My visit for business purposes turned into an absolute delight, owing to the wonderful ambiance, outstanding gastronomy, and impeccable service at this fine establishment.

The dining experience, marked by remarkable food and impeccable service, has left a lasting impression. I eagerly anticipate suggesting to my colleagues, friends, and family that they partake in this exceptional dining venture.

No longer do I need to venture to Tokyo to satisfy my craving for exceptional cuisine; Pepe's has undoubtedly set a new standard for excellence!

I think this was the best meal I’ve ever eaten.

Scallop tiradito: the scallops were high quality, the sauce and garnishes complimented them very well, but I think the yuzu was slightly overpowering. Overall would recommend for scallop lovers

Assorted tacos: the shells were satisfying and very crispy, and were neither too delicate or too heavy. All four fillings were absolutely delicious. Between my partner and I, it’s difficult to choose a favourite of the four.

Wagyu tataki: sometimes wagyu is not worth the hype or price, but in this dish it makes the difference. The sear on the beef was enough to lend that grilled flavour, but we were still able to enjoy the raw wagyu which was delicious. The garlic chips, spring onion and spicy radish was a perfect accompaniment and we spent considerable effort constructing perfect bites for every slice of tataki. We enjoyed this so much we started laughing between bites.

Assorted sashimi: this dish is what sealed this meal as the best I’ve ever had. I have never had octopus prepared as perfectly as this. It was so tender, and my partner and I agree that Tsukaya’s octopus has set our standard for what octopus can be. As mentioned before, the scallops were quality, but the salmon and tuna deserve special shoutouts as well. The fish was cut quite thick for sashimi, and I think this really allows you to appreciate how good the fish is. As well, the wasabi was quite pungent and the shredded radish was a fantastic palate cleanser between items.

Umami fries: honestly, they were pretty standard chips. The umami seasoning was good but it wasn’t as impressive as the other dishes. But chips are chips, and these were chips. And at a perfectly normal price for chips.

Tsukaya fried chicken: the flavours were there, the crunch was there, I enjoyed this dish. It was nice to have something pretty substantial to follow up the delicate dishes we had before this. I would wonder if there is a better way to get sauce onto the chicken, though. Having a dish of mayo to dip the chicken into didn’t really allow us to get the chicken sauced very well. Pretty minor critique, but it was something I thought about.

Octopus anticucho: Tsukaya’s perfect octopus returns! In the most clearly Peruvian-influenced dish of the meal, we got to really appreciate how well-cooked the octopus is at Tsukaya, with delicious salsas and beautiful seasoning just elevating everything. The crispy potatoes would’ve been appreciated even more than they were if we hadn’t also ordered chips haha.

All these dishes were beautiful. I cant stop thinking about them. But also to be commended is the service we enjoyed. Our first dish came out quite quickly, and dishes were served one after another with the table cleared frequently and very little waiting between dishes. We were very looked-after and very well-fed.

Such a fantastic experience for what is such a reasonable price. I’ve absolutely paid more for less food that was less impressive. I dream of the day I return to Tsukaya.

We had an absolutely amazing time at Tsukaya, from the attentive service to the superb balance of flavour for the food. First of all, the sashimi is super fresh, and the way the sashimi chef cuts the sashimi is a thick cut that allows you to taste the sweetness of the sashimi and enjoy the melting texture of each bite. Every dish was perfectly balance with umami, saltiness, sweetness and spice. Absolutely mindblown at the attention to detail on each dish, especially everything from the raw bar. The tacos were unexpected with a potato shell which gave the perfect crunch and casing for the fillings. The octopus was also cooked well, perfectly tender but holds its shape with enough bite - but not chewy. And the fried chicken had a flavoursome batter, and also particularly enjoyed the pickled daikon as a palate cleanser. We finished the meal off with the Chocolate Rocher, beautiful and wonderful finish to a perfect meal. A bonus is seeing the servers look like they genuinely enjoy providing good hospitality to customers, and just adds on top of the whole experience.

Thank you Tsukaya!

Australians have become quite discerning regards the subtleties in Japanese cuisine, certainly a huge jump from the early 70's with courageous chefs from Japan bravely introducing, raw fish, exotic sauces, strange looking dishes and presentations.
Tsukaya incorporates traditional and new, with experience and skill learnt from centuries of cuisine artistry.
With several visits, the menu will still challenge you to explore further
Thank you

There's a couple of certainties in life - I'm officially adding another - Tsukaya Restaurant serving outstanding food every night. It's one of the first recommendations I supply friends who seek a high level of tasty food. Thank you to all the team.

We've recently heard about this new restaurant. We went and had dinner and apparently, the tastes match our expectation. The price is very reasonable.
We decor is very minimalistic. The location of the restaurant is on the main strip of Mt Hawthorn.
We ordered the specials dishes, the scallops, oysters, burrata and tomatoes. We order from the main menu Charcoal grill beef and 4 assorted tacos and the eggplant dish. They are all up to our expectations other than the oysters three-way. The size of the oysters is a tad on the small side.
I will return and try their other dishes on the menu.
We had 6 dishes and we paid $120 that's very reasonable for a nice Japanese restaurant.

This place is top notch. Outstanding service all the way through.

Went there to celebrate a birthday and glad we did.

The food quality was superb. The salmon sashimi showed what salmon can actually taste like when well sourced and prepared. We loved the tuna shushi, and they did a special with tomato's and burrata which was very tasty.

Would definitely recommend and return.

Great Japanese fusion joint in the heart of Mount Hawthorne.

Attentive service. Great decor and even better food. Thoroughly enjoyed everything we chose. Highly recommend the pork belly gyoza and the soft shell crab roll.

Only criticisms: some plates seem small for the price (although the level of technical preparation required justifies the cost) and corkage is steep at $1 a beer.

Was on a taco hunt and was not disappointed. They are delicious and glad we ordered a serve each because it's too good to share.
Fantastic food and service all round. Serving size works well for couples or groups. Pictured here is Miso black cod, Tsukaya fried chicken, crispy pork belly, octopus anticucho, nasu dengaku, wagyu tataki, hamachi with yuzu soy, assorted tacos and scallop tiradito. The crispy pork belly tastes deep fried so would probably choose the fried chicken or pork belly next time, but not both, if dining for only 2 people. Rice is a must with nasu dengaku and Miso black cod. Didn't have room for dessert this time. Will be back again for the tacos and more!

Dined here with my partner last night and it was 10/10. Food was impeccable as was the service. Couldn’t have been more attentive and can definitely taste the resemblance to Nobu without the price and wait to get in.

Really delicious food and great service. The chicken wings were super tasty and the mushroom rice (can't remember the correct dish name) was excellent, but the standouts were the beef and salmon tataki. We had three serves of the salmon tataki, and it was just my wife and me.

It's also BYO and there's a bottle shop a few stores down the road.
