Smoko Campground

Around 15 kms out of Bright is this Gem of a spot. Free camping and fantastic. Long drop toilet in great condition, bring your own toilet paper. The river is a stone's throw away there are a few spots right on the water though. Cant get a better free camping spot for this area.

A beautiful & peaceful free camping site with a drop toilet nearby. The Ovens river runs by Smoko campground. Would definitely recommend we stayed for 6 nights.

Magnificent free camping, it has bathrooms, it does not have drinking water, many spaces for camping (keep in mind that it gets very busy in high seasons) it also has access to a river where you can cool off as long as the river is not fast flowing in the rains, you can make a fire always being careful. It is close to Bright and other small towns, totally recommended!

Very beautiful place, pristine nature, very clean and flowing water. In this place, you can experience the feeling of its logo and the sound of water and birds is the best song that can be heard every morning...

Great campground on the river. Lots of sites, drop loo and fire pits. Everything you need from a free campground.

When I went, there was no one camping here. I felt a little lonely so I went to sleep somewhere else.

Toilet is good but need to bring own paper. Good view of mountain, nice sites, great space so no-one is on top of another site.

Absolutely lovely, cleanest pit toilet ever, clear running water, beautiful bush to explore, don't think you can get a caravan next to the creek, not that we looked real hard.

Great place to visit for all and its free what more could you ask for. Also the river right next to camp sites its beautiful and peaceful.

Best little getaway for free camping. Just bring a lot of fly spray. Unexpectedly too many , when it wasnt even peak Summer conditions. But would definitely go again.

Smoko camping area is good, but we need toilets one more start camping area. Thank you.

Perfect place to sleep while in bright, toilet was fine, ample space on the 20th dec. May get busy during easter or Xmas.

Amazing facilities! For a free camp ground it has everything you need, a toilet, phone reception and lots of space! I also like that it is a little ways off the road so it’s nice and quite and away from the cars

Great little free campground. Drop toilets are around but bring your own toilet paper in case. Firepits scattered around. Fairly easy access to the creek. Had the police and Rangers come through to check on everything. Had 4G on Telstra and Optus

Great campground, including drop toilets (BYO toilet paper just in case) and some fire pits other people have left. Some phone signal, 2WD accessible (although rough). Not many sites close to the river, but lots of a nice spots regardless. Only 10 mins out of Bright.

Good distance out of Bright; not too busy. Toilet is a long drop, but doesn't smell at all. River is lovely and close. The kids really enjoyed going for a swim in the water too 💦☺
