Beechworth Emporium

We have been visiting Beechworth for the past 7 years and always enjoy a trip to the Beechworth Emporium. Never walk out of the store empty-handed. Always a friendly smile behind the counter.

So much to love here, great range of product and very well presented. Very helpful and friendly staff as well as the best fire place in town.

Love this shop, always spend way too much but the range of cold weather gear is such a treat for us Queenslanders.

Friendly, helpful staff. The lady behind the counter was genuinely greatful at how busy they were post covid. Picked up a hat for myself, great range and reasonably priced!

Lovely old style country department store. Great clothing for males and females. Including underwear and socks. Very friendly service. Large sizes stocked as well which is a bonus for us country men.

Carry a great range, reasonable priced with old fashioned service

Sadly I feel compelled to leave a negative review about an attempted exchange. :( It took my breath away just how blunt and rude the person I dealt with was. Being TOLD categorically, the Merry People boots I returned "Have been worn." when they were not. I returned the boots in perfect condition at my own expense, packed well. I have no idea why she was so combative. I can see no benefit for me to return a pair of boots, (to exchange for a smaller size) if they were infact, worn. I now realise that there are no size 39 available in my colour anyway. She was very abrupt and made sweeping, inaccurate statements such as "..numerous scuff marks.." "They have been worn." She DID furnish me with ONE photograph of what did indeed seem to be a single mark. A dark bluey/black colour. Very distinct. She denied the possibility that such a mark could have been caused from the return transit and was very condescending to me when I offered this, basically as the ONLY explanation I could think of! I am at a loss to how such a significant mark could have just appeared. This was not on the boot when I returned it and frankly, it would be an ill conceived endeavour and self defeating process to pay a support worker to get me to the Post Office, then fork out for return shipping on boots with an obvious dark mark on them! Both the support worker and a lovely Aus Post lady helped me pack them securely. To be clear here, I am pretty backwards in leaving bad reviews. I don't recall ever doing so. I really LOVE leaving good reviews, especially for small businesses, but Gosh.. this really was a negative experience. What came across as a mean spirited attitude is what really got me. Caustic but most of all, wholly unnecessary. I am a largely home bound, disabled woman who is not so well atm, ergo, I do all of my shopping online. I was looking forward to buying more items from this shop. I feel fortunate to have enjoyed good luck, good people and good business practice over the years. As it turns out, returning these boots only served to put myself in the firing line of unsolicited, inaccurate assessments and being talked down to. Also having to absorb a loss of money + return shipping. Somehow, far more potent for me perhaps, is a loss of precious time and headspace. I really felt terrible after speaking with her. I took a day or so to reflect before leaving this review. It's possible it may help someone make informed shopping choices. I also genuinely hope that the owner/person I dealt with is able to make useful changes in the future.
