We had the most wonderful experience at Summerlea Farm with Rick and Liz. It is clear to see the care and passion that they have for the land, cattle and environment. From the moment we arrived we were showered with warm country hospitality backed up by delicious Tasmanian produce. For an unforgettable experience I would highly recommend Summerlea Farm Tasmania.

Thank you to Rick & Liz for a wonderful day at their farm.

It was great to see firsthand a boutique farm, and everything that goes into working & living on the farm and their sustainable ethos.
It was interesting to find out about their involvement with government programs protecting the dwindling populations of giant freshwater crays and abundance of wildlife that they share on their property.

The cows were roaming free in their paddocks, we got up close & personal feeding these beautiful creatures, all with their unique personalities - they seem calm relaxed and enjoying their surroundings.

Never knew the vast amount of land/paddocks involved in farming these animals and movements between paddocks.

I guess this environment contributes to beautiful tasting Angus beef which we got to experience at the end of our tour- Angus beef skirt, charred vegetables, locally sourced fresh strawberries, carrots, capsicum cold meats, dips & cheeses made up an amazing charcuterie board. It was a lovely end to an amazing day at the farm!… along with toasted marshmallows over the open pit fire - kids (teenagers) love it!

Absolutely recommend this tour, not your average formal information tour but a great friendly atmosphere like sharing a day with a family cousin - down to earth friendly, knowledgeable and un-curated tour.
Enjoyed their fantastic company.

Very friendly hosts, embarked on rejuvenating their property with indigenous plants along the water course and return of natural bush land. Picnic platter of all Tasmanian produce is a specialty not to missed. The tour of the property was very interesting. This farm tour is one I highly recommend.

What a wonderful tour! Wine, wildlife, fine food and beautiful views. Absolutely loved learning about small producing direct from the producers - Liz & Rick are a wealth of knowledge, so much fun and they made us feel so welcome. The beef was magnificent and we now understand what it takes to get this level of quality meat on your plate! We loved meeting Susan & Harry for a wine tasting. It was such a relaxing day and I will be recommending the Summerlea tour as a must do when visiting Tassie. Thanks Liz & Rick.

What a delight it was to share warm hospitality with hosts Liz and Rick on a cold spring evening at Summerlea Farm. The attention to detail of creature comforts like a flushing porta-loo tent toilet and warm woollen blankets with secreted hot water bottles was appreciated. Nibbles were followed by a delicacy of marrow bone barbecued on the open fire - definitely a first for us and delicious, as was the tasty beef dish which followed, also sourced from the farm.
The all terrain vehicle tour of the forested paddocks and back farm featured a sunset vista and multiple sightings of native fauna including wallabies, pademelons, and birds including an elusive Bassian thrush foraging for dinner.
The informative introduction to the property included a close-up encounter with the famous Black Angus herd happily grazing on lush pasture, and the rejuvenated river habitat. It was interesting to hear of the progress in Liz and Rick's efforts of sustainability and regeneration of natural forest, as well as a practical nuanced approach to pasture and herd management. We learned that improved survival of the endangered local giant crayfish is a direct result of the proactive tree management and re-planting on the riverbank.
On speaking with Liz and Rick one quickly feels the passion and zeal which characterises their approach to farming and life. We felt fortunate that we were able to share not only the culinary and natural delights of Summerlea Farm but also in the ethos and drive which powers it.
Thank you and best wishes,
Ian and Janelle Brown

Our tour of Summerlea Farm was the highlight of our trip to Tassie! Rick and Liz were such warm and generous hosts who had considered every detail to ensure our experience was special and unique. We are passionate foodies and loved hearing about their thoughtful approach to raising their cattle. The farm is truly beautiful and provided a spectacular backdrop for our delicious picnic featuring Summerlea beef and other local produce. We also enjoyed meeting Liz and Rick’s neighbours Harry and Susan from The Ridge winery and tasting their wine. We found it very difficult to drag ourselves away at the end of the tour and hope to bring some friends along on our next trip to Tasmania!

My partner & I enjoyed our visit to Summerlea Farm, including seeing the work Liz & Rick are putting into rehabilitating the river.

It was nice and peaceful sitting in front of the fire at the Base Camp area with a hot cuppa and watching the birds. We also did the walks through the forest and the one down to the waterfall, and the highlight was seeing two brown falcons land in the top of one of the huge eucalypts. Would recommend.

Had a wonderful time on the tour- incredible food and wine, warm and welcoming hosts. Loved all the luxury touches- hot water bottles and vintage blankets for our laps, fabric napkins, stemless wineglasses and even a stylish loo! Such fun riding around in the Polaris! Loved hearing the family history and all the work that has gone into establishing and maintaining both farms. Thank you!

This place produces excellent quality organic beef at very affordable prices, and the people running it are very pleasant. If you're looking for locally-raised beef for your household or restaurant I would highly recommend summerlea.
