Crown Street Grocer

Love this corner grocer for their selection of Italian pasta, deli meats and cheeses. They stock hard to come by guanciale and quality mortadella. The cheese range is extensive, particularly the Parmesan and pecorino.
Lots of fancy pantry items and spices as well as fresh produce section.
Coffee and sandwiches as well as breakfast pastries are sold to go or available for eat in at the window counter or outdoor tables.
It’s pricey but as a lot of the items are imported and quality, it’s to be expected.

My go-to for coffees every time I walk to work. They are on point 👌🏽
An extensive range of Panettone's, fresh sour dough loaves (both whole, and half), fresh produce, and bakery goods make a visit here leaving not just with a coffee, but with a little treat too.
Treat yourself, and drop in!

There are loads of local and Italian gluten free items across the store. Each one is amongst the regular products so you'll need to look.

I've put up photos of pretty much every gluten free item I found.

Amazingly they also stock Caputo gluten free flour. This is a high end flour and tricky to find in Australia.

There are some gluten free cakes in the cafe area however the tongs appear to be shared so coeliacs should ask for clean tongs if ordering.

There are also a number of spices, spice mixes and stocks that are gluten free.

Most interesting was ready meals by a brand called Barbetta which make fresh sauces and ragus. A bit pricy ($25) but they look amazing and have two to three serves.

Great selection, very friendly staff and excellent coffee!

Great sandwiches and bagels; loved the Porchetta sandwich and Bresaola bagel in particular. The place has good coffee and there is plenty of high quality groceries available. The outside sitting area could be more inviting, but still it was enjoyable!

The bagels are great. The smoked salmon and scrambled egg is excellent and is so big it could feed 2. Make sure you get there before 12:00 on most days if you are after eggs, other days a bit earlier than that

Honestly. This was my favourite shop in Sydney. We unexpectedly found it while exploring. Fantastic products, delicious food and coffee. I especially loved the customer service. Warm and friendly.

Sensational quick lunch/coffee spot.

Quite the extensive menu to choose from holding great value in taste and money (especially if you're looking to spend under $10.00 for lunch). If you're a campos coffee fan, this is your go to place! Great spot to grab a coffee on the go.

Fantastic eatery! Just down the road from where we were staying so very convenient. Lovely food, great coffee and service. Friendly staff. The range of salads was amazing. We visited 3 days in a row and we loved it. So nice to sit and look out at the world going by.

LOVE Crown Street Grocer. I regularly get my coffee here and they are always great, and there are so many amazing products here; brilliant international cheeses, great salads and some brilliant unique Deli products.

Great coffee, friendly staff, good falafel.

I’ve been having my daily caffeine fix from Crown St Grocer for a bit now and I’m always pleased. The staff are really friendly and remember you and your order. It’s lovely to be met with a smile as someone passes you the first coffee of the day!

We had the falafel from the deli and it was lovely; can’t wait to try the rest of the salads and dishes.

Crown Street Grocer is also the place to go if you want to find that special foodie thing to treat yourself; from exotic jams to artisan chocolates.

The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. There's a salad bar with a which you can fill with assorted types from a large range. There's also a grocer (hence the name) with everything from deli selections to raw foods. They also have a nice selection of coffee to suit any palate.

Would recommend trying out one of the salads or wraps if you are in the neighbourhood with prices being just under the average typical Surry Hills fare.

The one star reviews from mysterious "customers" on the same day (give or take) are completely at odds with my experience. Joe and Anna are kind and generous. Service is tip top. They order things in for me. They always have a smile. This is a great small business and they should be supported, not torn down by Muppets. Some Hollywood stars are known to come in - I've seen them buy everything they could possibly need and leave with a smile.

There is a lot of competition for the best coffee on Crown Street, and opinions differ wildly. Surry Hills locals are passionate about their coffee culture, and can be found lining up for their favourite cafe. My personal favourite is Crown Street Grocer. It's more of a takeaway place, although there are tables to sit and eat/drink in if you choose - nestled amongst the shelves of gourmet groceries.

The service is friendly and efficient and the coffee packs a punch. They use Campos beans, which is always a good sign, and make their coffe with love. After trying pretty much every single coffee shop in Surry Hills over the years, I believe that Crown Street Grocers is the best in the suburb.

Great traditional little grocer. Nice coffee and pre made food chicken, salad ect. Is beautiful and very reasonable price. Owner is friendly aswell

I enjoyed the sandwich. It was made fresh as soon as I ordered with a generous amount of haloumi. There are many nice products in the store.

Fab little shop crammed full of interesting ingredients (top quality Italian dried pasta, gourmet produce, cheese etc) , salads, sandwiches and pastries. Makes a lovely coffee too.
