Yum Cha CBD

We dined on Saturday whilst almost everyone was going to the National Multicultural Festival, and on arrival the restaurant was almost full just after 6pm. And all the clients were Chinese - a sign that the food is good!
We were greeted and ushered to our table very quickly with a warm welcome/smile by the lady.
The atmosphere was welcoming and it has a glow of "festive mood" - maybe it was Chinese New Year.
We ordered and it didn't take too long before our first dish of cold Appetizer came. This was followed by stir fried water spinach, live mud crabs, sweet and sour pork fillets, followed by the steam grouper fresh fish.
All the dishes were excellent and the Cantonese style of cooking was just superb.
The highlight was the mud crab with ginger and shallots - full of flavour and flesh was sweet and plumb. It was really "finger-licking" great!!
The sweet and sour pork fillets were very flavorsome.
The steam fish was just steamed to perfection and the flesh was silky smooth and so fresh, yum!!
When we had finished our meal, the restaurant was almost full.
Of note that we noticed that the serves were large and amore than ample in comparisons to other eateries in Canberra.
And the price was, surprisingly very affordable and less than what we had expected!
So we will definitely be back. Oh, they also served Yum Cha too (that we will have to come back at another day)
However, we did find the place quite noisy and maybe it could be due to the crowd or everyone trying to "outdo" others with their speeches!!
Highly recommended. P/s would have given 5 stars for atmosphere had it not for the loud noise

authentic Cantonese food served here. Dim sum is freshly made. Really like the sour hot soup. Slat and pepper white bait fish is crispy and tasty. Soup dumplings are not so bad. However，l was expecting more dim sum choices. Will Try Other options next time there.

I was recommended this place and I must say I pleasantly surprised. The customer service is top notch. Very polite and decent staff. The food is awesome and the place is so clean and hygienic. I brought some of my clients for lunch and I will be definitively going back again.

My favourite Cantonese restaurant so far. The food quality is consistently high. First time trying lobster sashimi yesterday and it is surprisingly good. I also love the oyster and shredded chicken very much.

This is a traditional Chinese restaurant. It is a very good Chinese food restaurant in Canberra. It is suitable for gathering with friends. It is highly recommended!

It is located within the Melbourne building. They are usually very busy on Saturday Sunday lunch times.
Good variety of food including baos, dumplings and the menu has a lot of options too.
The mango pudding for dessert was really good too.

Yum Cha located in CBD definitely lives up to its reputation and credibility....amazing range of seafood beef pork chicke and even veggies...
Come on a Sunday and sit back leisurely and enjoy the range on hand carts being rolled out with fresh delicacies...i loved the pork buns veggies and custard dessert

Good food and service, but pricing is extravagant. Ordered a beef brisket noodle soup, which is around $16 typically. I asked for some beef tendon as well and with the three pieces of tendon with less brisket, it somehow became $28.80. No room for negotiation with the staff. This is opportunistic price gouging, only aiming at short terms gains rather than long serving customers.

I don't think there is any misunderstanding or miscommunication when we were paying the bill from the middle-aged lady with shorter hair at reception, completely dismissing our concern about charging too much for the one dish and to reconsider the price and telling us "Bye, Bye! No need to come back!" without even considering to discuss with management first (unless of course, she is the manager)

I do actually want to return to your restaurant and I hope we can come to some resolution, when we chat. If it helps, I have added a copy of the receipt for your observation. I believe it is the bottom item for $28.80. Thank you again and look forward to hearing from you.

EDIT 01.01.2024 - Thank you to Adrian for taking the time out in sorting out this matter in a professional way by refunding the difference (the gesture and actions taken are worth much more than the monetary amount) and advising us that he has spoken to his staff, so that this confusion doesn't happen again. People and businesses make mistakes and how they deal with them after really reflects on how good the business is or can be, so I am quite impressed and I will return soon for another Yum Cha lunch!

Quick and delicious. The staff here are nice, friendly and really professional. My prawn dim sim, salt and pepper squid are on point, egg tarts are crispy and soft. My favorite one is the chicken feet, probably the best chicken feet we’ve ever had in Aus even compared to Melbourne or Sydney

Yum Cha CBD serves incredibly tasty traditional Cantonese food! The flavors are authentic and delicious. The staff is friendly and makes dining there a great experience. Definitely a must-try for anyone who loves genuine Cantonese cuisine!

Came here for lunar new year dinner and was surprised by the quality, considering it’s a yumcha place. We had a variety of different seafood, meats and veggies. The highlight would have been the mud crab and lobster, they were all cooked well and flavours were just right! Improvements can be made on the fried white bait which wasn’t very crispy or crunchy. Overall a good option for yumcha and classic Cantonese style dishes.

Delicious food. I like the seafood very much. The crab sticky rice with lotus leaf and eel steamed with black bean sauce are of very good quality. Nice service too - the food came quickly and the staff are very friendly. Highly recommended if you're looking for a Cantonese restaurant in Canberra.

Have been here several times when visiting Canb city centre. Huge range of Chinese and oriental meals. One of the best. The food is fabulous. Love it all. Service and staff are great. Strongly recommend

New yummy yumcha. I even found rice congee and other rare dishes at this HongKong style yumcha place. We have been here a few times already as the food servings are big and delicious.

My family loves it. Must go place if you are a yum cha fan.

Good friendly service with top notch dumplings, buns, seafood and tarts. Soft shell crab, salted squid and tofu are delectable. Dumplings are fantastic, light and flavoursome. The egg tarts have a creamy eggy custard encased in a wonderful flaky pastry that melt in your mouth. The staff are eager to please and are very helpful and efficient. A wonderful place for Yum Cha!

Had brunch here with the family and we enjoyed ourselves. Food was mostly good and service was even better. Transparent with the dish prices, prices are in English on the paper that they mark off with every dish ordered, so that's always a plus.

Dropped by for a quick lunch. Food was fresh and oh so tasty. Pork ribs with black bean sauce, bean curd rolls, sui mai, Har gow, gow choy gow all highly recommended. Didn't take photos of them all cause I was too busy eating them lol

The food is amazing, such fresh delicious dumplings. I recommend all the seafood dumplings and egg tarts are so delicious. 5/5 for food.

Only thing is during big events like father's day etc, it feels very over booked and rushed so I'd recommend going at other times. :)
