This is cute place deserves 5 stars. My partner and I had sushimi for 2 and the fish was really fresh! We also had scallop nigiri and they were some of the best scallops we'd ever had. With delicious home made wasabi and soy sauce too. Then we had the Rajin Special Roll (eel, prawn, crab, cucumber and avo) sprinked with crushed prawn. Needless to say it was delicious and presented beautifully. The service was lovely, the lady who waited tables was so happy to answered all our questions. We then shared chicken Kaarage Ramen. Literally the chicken melted in my mouth, the Mayo it came with was creamy and the soup was divine. Be aware it's BYO as it's not licenced.

Outstanding and extraordinary japanese cuisine experience in Canberra. The black curry amazed me a lot. The color of it is made from seaweed, dark chocolate and multiple species of japanese curry. It tastes so good that we will definitely come back.
The grilled eel with egg rice is also a highlight. My kids love it so much and they empty the bowl in no time.
Staffs are very friendly, great food with awesome atmosphere. I highly recommend everyone to try this hidden gem in North-west part of Canberra.

A nice little place for special Japanese cuisine. We did enjoy those foods, especially the Unagi Don, yum til a stage that we can't stop thinking about after.. Chicken Karrage was specially breaded (the appearance), which exactly tastes like those traditional Tempura. We love the soup and you will definitely need it after the meal! Do not forget to make a reservation before you come, it is always packed no doubt:)

A gem of a find far from the Rising Sun!
I frankly did not expect to find a great dining experience tucked in McKellar.

The only commercial establishment opened on a Saturday evening, with fiends who recommended a visit, we were quite open to what we will expect.

Once inside the restaurant, a simple and basic Japanese decor greeted us, with a Japanese TV channel on the television. Two waitresses greeted us warmly. There was already a family dining there, this was just after 6pm on Saturday.

We browsed through the menu in English, assisted with photos ad description of the wide varieties of dishes.

We did not take too long to decide on what we liked. It was almost 6.30pm and with just 2 tables amongst the 9 tables available we wondered if the visit was a good idea!

By then almost 5 tables were taken

We ordered a wide variety of dishes and as we had intended to share which would give us a wider range of testing the food without being limited to a small selections.

On the subject of sharing/trying out dishes , surprising the serves were very generous in size.

Food came pretty quickly served by two friendly waitress. As the dishes looks great, so pictures before consumption! Some dishes were not photographed, after I started to salivate....My personal dish was the roasted pork ramen. The generous serve of pork was well spiced and tender, not overwhelmingly, just right. Soup base is very comparable to the framed Mutekiva in Japan.

Dessert was very welcoming to end a great feast. We ordered red beans paste ( I cannot recalled the dish!) But it was smooth and not overwhelmingly sweet. Great end to night of authentic Japanese food afar from Japan.
Cost were very reasonable

Seeing is believing....

Discovered this little hidden gem recently and was not disappointed. This small restaurant, offers a wide range of Japanese dishes including most of the staples. We tried a number of entrees, 2 mains and dessert. The sukiyaki was definitely a great option for the colder weather, and all the fried dishes were cooked crispy. The only improvements would be the beef choice in the sukiyaki which was quite chewy, and the batter for the karage was a lotte thick. We were delighted to receive some green tea and the staff turned down the aircon for us. Overall good Japanese option for Canberra.

Such a little gem hidden away in the burbs. The food is amazing, the flavours are outstanding. The service is great, quick and comes with a smile. Byo if you want.. just be aware that it is small so ring before hand or take away. You won't be disappointed.

What an absolute gem of a place. The salmon sashimi was so, so fresh. We were told they slice it to order to make sure it doesn’t dry out. The ramen was full of flavour and had charry notes in it. The lady who served us (who may have been the owner) was so sweet. I wish I lived nearby so I could make it my local!

Delicious!

I had the mixed tempura and the dipping sauce was delicious and sweet, a lot nicer than what other Japanese food restaurants provide. The vegetables were tender but with enough bite to them with a really nice tempura batter.

Had the winter special spicy ramen level one which was enough to blow my socks off, so don't let your ego get in the way. Looking forward to trying the level two and melting my face off. The char siu (chasu?) pork was really nice and the marinated egg was very tasty.

Good stuff, hope to be back soon!

Hidden gem in this quiet Canberra neighborhood. I have come here a couple of times and it has been a great experience everytime. The sashimi platter i ordered this time is absolutely amazing. Very fresh and good variety and nicely displayed. Friendly staff and hygienic environment as always. I just have to share this experience and recommend others to this place. You won't be disappointed.

Every trip to Raijin has been delicious. Down to earth flavours paired with big portions. We ordered the tempura tofu, crab croquettes, egg ebi don and black curry katsu don. First time trying black curry sauce. It was divine. The ebi (eel) was cooked to perfection. My favourite is the crunchy tempura tofu with a lemony soy sauce. Definitely have to go back to try more of the menu. This place is really worth a try if you love Japanese food

We had a lovely dinner! It was a stormy rainy night and it was great to sit back with a hot bowl of Ramen. We highly recommend the Char Siu Ramen, Sashimi and Katsu Tofu platter.

Great food and such amazing service. Asked if a dish was vegetarian and the staff went out of their way to provide another menu and step me through my options.
