What a great insight to the remarkable tenacity of white settlement into the area…
The fortunate find of copper that financially helped save SA, to the efforts of Sir Kidman.
A walk (give yourself a good hour or more) through this space, gives some perspective to the riggers of early settlement.
Combine this with a tour of the Kapunda Northern Hotel and it is a great history lesson.
Sadly what was not considered was the scarring of the landscape to support the settlement growth of SA.
Also sad was the treatment of those not so well off (children especially).
The walk give you a great perspective!

The Kapunda Mine was the first successful commercial copper metal mine in Australia. There are plenty of history and lots of things to learn. It’s about 20-25 minutes walk around the mining area seeing beautiful colours and interesting sculptures and items to learn about.
Horse sculptures made with different kind of iron materials. Worth it to visit.

Paths to the most colourful parts deteriorated so the whole area is closed off except a loop walk around the site.

Very entertaining lots to see and learn about Australia's first successful copper mine. In a beautiful area, with a leisurely walk around the area seeing beautiful colours and interesting models and items to learn about.
The Kapunda Museum has a dedicated building included in the tiny entrance fee with a local video shown about the mining and several displays and information.

Great amount to learn, see and photograph a 20+ minute walk around with plenty to see and is Australia's first successful copper mine. The Museum further in town has so many displays of mining and a short video on the history and people of the town that helped South Australia in the early years, War history and then a full church with machinery, antiques and so many displays of heritage items.
