Bedarra Island Resort

Very relaxing stay on a secluded tropical island. The staff are amazing and really take care of you and make you feel at home. There are things to do if you want, like take a dinghy to a nearby deserted island or even get a helicopter tour of the area, or you can just relax and do nothing for a few days. Food is excellent as is the service. It’s not cheap but well worth doing if you can.

BEST HOLIDAY EVER!
My wife and I just returned from a 4 night stay. This is by far and away the best couples holiday we have ever had. The rooms are beautiful, the scenery is epic and the food is fantastic. But the main reason we will be going back is the service. Each and every team member looked after us so well and made us feel like a family friend. Totally recommend!

I can’t say enough good things about this resort and it’s staff.

For starters, I called the staff to let them know our flight was rescheduled and we were going to miss our transfer from the Cairns airport to Mission beach, then our boat ride from Mission Beach to the resort. They said they’d let management know the following day during business hours and they would have them contact us. Not even minutes later, the manager, Geoffrey, called me and asked for our flight number and he would coordinate everything for us around when our flight arrived. We were so stressed we’d miss our transfers and not make it to the island until the following day, but Geoffrey made sure our car and boat were ready for us as soon as we arrived.

We also held our elopement at the island and they made sure our day was amazing. There was minimal stress to coordinate our day. Leading up to it, Bedarra asked me to email them a list of my vendors and they would coordinate a wedding timeline and transfer to the island with them. That alone took so much stress off of our plates. We tried planning a wedding in the States which was beyond stressful. Obviously we cancelled our initial wedding plans and had a completely different experience eloping at Bedarra. 10/10 recommend.

The food and drinks were incredible. We had more to see of Australia after our time at Bedarra and we were quite disappointed in the local food after being spoiled with the incredible menu at Bedarra.

We had a blast hiking, snorkeling, paddle boarding, kayaking and taking a dingy out to nearby islands. Any time we would come back to our rooms, we found it to be neat and tidy.

The staff at this resort is absolutely unmatched. Geoffry and Eileen made sure everything was scheduled and organized accordingly during our stay. Bono, Gianni, Benji, Samuel and Larissa always made sure we were comfortable and had a drink in our hand. Words cannot express how impressed we were with the attentiveness, kindness and professionalism of the staff.

We will most definitely be back. Hopefully every year to celebrate our anniversary. Do yourself a favor and book this a stay here. You’ll be missing out on an incredible experience if you don’t.

My partner and I absolutely loved Bedarra. We felt welcomed from the first moment at Mission Beach. Bedarra's promise of luxury without pretentiousness was absolutely upheld the entire vacation and we loved it.

We stayed in the Beach House and it was perfect for us. The multi-levels, the outdoor shower, the plunge pool and outdoor day bed. Was perfect, We also loved the privacy. People walking on the path below couldn't see us, nor could the neighbors. That really added to the feeling of a private getaway on a small island. Sunrises in particular were amazing. We simply loved the view from our villa.

The food, drinks, and service were outstanding. I've eaten at a lot of great restaurants and the food at Bedarra held its own. As did the service. Truly the best service I've had while in Australia (speaking as an expat here for 3 years).

We also made use of a dinghy (not very powerful) and the water craft at the beach. The little jaunt out to a private island was fun. And the picnic packed by Bedarra was *chefs kiss.

My only suggestion (not a complaint as we had an AMAZING TIME and would ABSOLUTELY return) would be to spruce up the little gym. My partner and I did go there as we enjoy a daily workout. The beaches at Bedarra aren't long enough for a good run or walk. We found the space lacking what we'd expect at such a fabulous resort. Would expect a top notch treadmill, elliptical, bike, and good wifi at a minimum. The weights were good and we used those! We did note that the rooms had yoga mats and we made use of those as well. We also did ALL the hikes noted on the resort map. These were terrific.

When we returned to Mission Beach, we were surprised to find our car already there, ready to go. Bottles of water already in the cupholders. An unexpected touch, and just a lovely ending to the trip.

Overall - highly, highly recommend. The closest comparison I can make to Bedarra is Jumby Bay in Antigua. Personally I thought while Jumby Bay may have Bedarra beat on the long beaches, beach service (for sports and drinks / snacks), and bar, Bedarra one upped them on the food, behind the scenes service, staff, and the privacy of the villas and plunge pools.

Shout out to Mark, Bunny, Gianni, and Bono who helped make meals fabulous. And a big shout out to Geoffrey, who was just wonderful.

While Australia isn't a quick trip for us, we absolutely plan to return. Can't wait for our next Bedarra adventure.

We spent 4 nights at Bedarra Island Resort to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. The entire experience was simply incredible. I'll start with what makes Bedarra so special - the people.

The staff:
If I had to pick one thing which made our stay so special, it would be the staff. They made our stay. Literally, nothing was a problem. It was clear the entire team is passionate about what they do including the sustainability of the island and it's many treasures. I want to say a huge THANK YOU to Geoffery, Jessica, Bunny, Samuel, Becky, and anyone I've forgotten. It's a rare thing to meet such wonderful, professional, and genuine people.

The accommodation:
What is so unique about this resort is the layout. They've obviously taken great care when designing the resort, as every bungalow feels incredibly private. The view from our room was stunning. The fit-out was beautiful - comfy bed, air-conditioning, large lounge area, and an outside deck with sun lounges.

The food:
I went to Bedarra expecting good quality meals, yet also accepting that we are staying at the resort for it's location and beautiful beaches, not for the food. I was wrong! The food was incredible! Breakfast, lunch, or dinner - it was all delicious! They have a wonderful chef there, which made every meal a highlight of our trip. They also do this clever concept of 'suggested wines' by the glass with each course. Much better than simply doing the standard 'matching wines' as you can drink as little or as much as you like. The wines were all wonderful, and their suggestions perfectly complimented the meal.

The island:
There is so much to do on Bedarra Island. We took one of the motorised tinnies over to another island for a picnic. The Bedarra team packed a picnic for us, which included fresh wraps, salads, cheeses, and a bottle of wine. This experience was the highlight of our visit. The team provided everything we needed, such as beach umbrellas, picnic rugs, etc. Make sure you do this!

On another day, we kayaked around the island. This took around an island, and I highly recommend it! We saw two turtles right next to our kayak. We also hiked up and over the island to Valley Beach (I hope I got that right). It's a tough hike, but totally worth it. Stunning views and plenty of photo opportunities!

So, would I recommend Bedarra Island Resort? 100%. We will be back! If you're after a luxury holiday at a resort run by beautiful people, this is it.

Heaven on Earth! As soon as we arrived we immediately began to feel the stress of city life leave our souls. We can highly recommend arriving by helicopter from the mainland to get the full overhead view of this pristine natural environment. Our room was lucky villa 13, with spectacular ocean views, quiet privacy, a short stroll from the main reception. Geoffrey is an impeccable welcoming host anticipating our every need. Lance is an extraordinary, vibrant character who ensured our dining experience was beyond measure. The food was incredible, particularly the seafood platter which was definitely worth the extra indulgence. We are still talking about the exquisite selections on offer in the bar and wine lounge. The beaches, walking tracks are private, stunning and lush. Bedarra is a relaxing experience that will stay in our hearts!

I need about fifteen times more stars to give Bedarra Island the rating it deserves. A truely magnificent experience from start to finish. Simply amazing how much care they put into every single aspect of the guest experience.

Wow! My wife and I spent four nights at bedarra island resort, there are very few words than can describe the sensation you get when you experience this resort! Flying in by helicopter was indescribable and the moment you get out it’s just pure bliss! Geoff was so welcoming and made us feel like the island was ours and to enjoy everything on the island as if it was!
The island is absolutely picturesque, yet the staff contribute to how beautiful the island is! Geoff, Samuel, Bunny, Saskia, Gianni, mark and all staff I haven’t mentioned as there would be a lot of behind the scenes work, are incredible and go out of their way to make sure you are so well look after and nothing is every too much or a problem!

Ingrid, the masseuse, wow!! She is beyond brilliant!! Do yourself a favour and let Ingrid work her magic on your body and you will definitely get a massage from her more than once while your on the island! Very knowledgeable and finds all the points that need work and attention on your body!! Not to mention is such a calming sensation as you listen to the birds, ocean and wildlife.

We stayed in the North East Villa and it was unbelievable! The private infinity pool with such a memorising view and a huge sun bed and out door bath…….the inside was so spacious and bed extremely comfortable!

The food on the island is out of this world!! All staff are happy to accommodate any food requests or requirement you desire!
It’s difficult to come home and not have such an extravagant menu placed in front of you to enjoy bfast, lunch and dinner.

Their is soooo much to do on the island if you want to or you can just absolutely zen out, switch off, unwind and relax!!!!

The cocktail hour each day is a great idea and brings people together to have a good chin wag and enjoy some drinks together.

Sam and everyone he has selected in his team are an absolute credit to what creates this magical island!!
We will 100% return to bedarra as everything was on point!

What an amazing honeymoon destination. Even though we had a lot of rain for our stay, my husband and I agree that it is the best holiday we have ever been on. Great villas, awesome food, fantastic cocktails and such a great luxury holiday destination. Nothing is too much trouble for the wonderful staff!

Where do we begin!? This place is a tropical dream. We stayed in one of the pavilions which had a private pool that overlooked the ocean. The rainforest surrounding the resort was spectacular and immaculately maintained. The resort was barefoot luxury at its best and made you feel like you were miles away from home. The all inclusive meals and drinks were amazing. There was not a single dish we did not enjoy. The chef was very accommodating in making changes to my meals as I am vegetarian. The staff were so friendly and went out of their way to make you feel special. My partner proposed to me on this island in a private dinning experience in one of the tree houses surrounded by rainforest and overlooked the ocean. The staff arranged candles and a bouquet of flowers for my special night. The massage by the beach was one of the best we have ever had. A big thanks to the all the staff especially Lance for going above and beyond our whole trip.

Informal perfection.
From the moment you arrive at the launch terminal at Mission Beach until you arrive back at that terminal at the end of your stay you switch to relaxation mode.
The facilities, villas, beaches and above all, restaurant, ease the stress from you.
There is no “sir” or “madam” from the staff here. It is all first name basis with a level of professional informality we have not experienced elsewhere.
My wife has significant dietary restrictions and allergies but the staff were understanding and attentive to her needs. The Executive Chef & his assistant chef visited our table at least half a dozen times to discuss dining options & the wait staff were similarly attentive & understanding.
Did I mention how excellent the food & accompanying wines were? The food here is as good as we’ve eaten in any Michelin starred establishment without the pretentiousness. It really is that good.
If there is a drawback to this resort it’s that you’re almost guaranteed to go home a couple of kilos heavier.
We had the Beach House villa which was perfect for our needs.
A plunge pool & day bed overlooking the Coral Sea, upper & lower decks, a well stocked mini bar, a seperate upstairs lounge area & the peace of being surrounded by rainforest & even a private outdoor shower added to the easy days.
Rooms are serviced twice a day & always when you’ve stepped out for a meal. The service is seamless
There no room keys. No cash registers. No hassles.
As much excellent food as you could possibly eat and unlimited alcohol are included in the tariff. Did I mention piling on the kilos?
We had heard that this place was pretty exceptional but it exceeded our expectations.
The guy back at Mission Beach even washed our car while we we on the island then opened the windows & put bottles of ice water on the day of our return.
It’s all those little touches that make this place so special.
This is clearly an establishment where management set the tone & the staff oblige. We both commented how happy the staff seemed & that has to be a reflection on the owners Kerry-Anne & Sam.
Would we go back? In a heartbeat.

I have to laugh! The two “one star” reviews didn’t even stay here. To be honest, I don’t want to promote Bedarra because it will make it even more popular (and we booked our return 12 months in advance). This exclusive but oh so friendly resort epitomises barefoot luxury. From booking, traveling, staying, eating, drinking and relaxing, everything has been well thought out. Sam and Kerri-Ann have created an amazingly unique adult-only tropical resort for just 24 guests. They will often be there welcoming you themselves. But their staff (including long term staff Lance and Jeff) are superb and the food is excellent. Coming back is like being welcomed by the family. We look forward to returning year after year.

This was the ultimate in luxury without pretense. The team on the island are very warm and welcoming, we felt like family by the time we left after 5 nights. Eben other guests felt like new friends as there are so few villas/guests in the resort. We stayed in the Treehouse Villa and it was exceptional value. All meals are served in a relaxed manner and with timings that encourage a sleep in, a morning swim or hike, or partaking in a social cocktail hour before dinner. All inclusive isn't done like this elsewhere! This is five-star dining, with an open bar, and a fully stocked mini bar in each villa.
The team are incredible, it bares repeating this. It's little wonder it is booked out months/a year in advance. The perfect holiday for our Silver Wedding anniversary, where time seemed to slow down.

A group of 6 of us stayed at the resort for 4 nights a couple of weeks ago. From the moment we dropped in at the office in Mission Beach we were treated like royalty. This amazing attention to detail and superb customer service stayed with us throughout our stay and even to the moment the staff delivered our cars back to us on the mainland, cleaned and stocked up with water.

The weather was a little changeable for the time of year but this didn't matter 1 bit. there is so much to do, or not to do at the resort.

The self-serve bar is fantastic and stocked with pretty much everything you can think of to make some cool cocktails! the wine list is extensive, thoughtfully put together and covers pretty much every palate.

One thing I think the resort doesn't stress enough is just how fantastic the food is. This is top end dining, every meal, every day. Rich and tasty with serving sizes being suitable to the number of courses. Oh, and the bread!!! Wow!

Of the 6 in our party, 2 of us are vegetarian, 2 pescatarian, and the other 2 eating most other stuff. The resort catered for us brilliantly. They even took on board expanding their menu's to ensure that the pescatarians were not just offered a fish dish, but had a choice of veggie too.

We took a trip out for a 60th birthday day on a nearby island and the staff packed up an amazing lunch for us. We could not get around how amazing the tiffin (google it) loaded with food was. Just amazing.

The villas we all stayed in were the very definition of barefoot luxury. You wont get lots of glass and marble here. But it's just so fitting to the environment and everything you could need or want is provided with no questions at all. So much so, you ask for something and you always get at least 2!!

Sleeping to the sound of the waves was just brilliant and a memory I will treasure!

All the staff were brilliant. So understanding, understated and welcoming. It would almost be unfair to call out any individuals but Geoff the manager was just the perfect host. From the front of house and restaurant staff, to the site managers, cleaners and maintenance crews. All are ready with a smile and a chat and all ready to help with whatever you need.

Bedarra Island Resort is really as wonderful as the advertising says it is. I so hope we get a chance to go back again.

If you are looking for a place to relax unwind with magnificent views and superb service than Bedarra Island Resort is what you are after.
We stayed in villa 16 for our 5 nights stay which overlooked a section of the Island with some magical views.

Being all inclusive you didn't need to worry about over indulging as it's well stocked for all occasions. The food was on point and are happy to cater to any personal preferences or dietary requirements.

Must do's booking a lunch on a secluded island, going on hikes or checking out the aerial views of the island, sister islands and reefs in the area.

Your only conundrum will be deciding what cocktails to have during cocktail hour.

We had an excellent stay at Bedarra for our honeymoon. We stayed for 10 nights in the pavilion and nautilus villas. The whole experience is great, starting with the excellent helicopter transfer from Cairns airport.

Accommodation is lovely, especially the pavillion villa which has an amazing view South over one of the bays and is very private. Food and drinks are great, they serve 3 large meals a day with a good variety and quality. Lunch is two-course and dinner is three-courses every day. The meals are pretty rich so you will probably put on some weight. Bedarra is an 'all-included' resort so you can drink whatever you want, whenever you want. There is a small premium wine list with some additional wines, but all the included standard wines were great quality. They have a cocktail hour prior to dinner every night, where each front of house staff member makes a different drink each night, or you can order whatever else you want. There is also an included minibar in the room.

The service here is excellent. The manager Geoffrey has been here for a long time and works very hard to make every guest feel special and looked after. The front of house staff were excellent; thank you Bindi, Jess, Danni and Joel for looking after us so well. Special mention to Cody who was an absolute legend with the boating and fishing. We have previously stayed at Lizard Island which was a very comparable experience, however I felt the staff at Bedarra were significantly better and more personal which makes a difference.

The activities are all pretty fun and mostly based around the water. There's a couple of beaches to swim at, pool, paddle boarding and kayaking etc. They have a couple of small dinghies you can take out to the other family islands or do a bit of fishing. There's also the option of a half or full day drop off at one of the other islands with a picnic which was very nice. We did a reef snorkelling trip from mission beach with another company and the Bedarra guys will drop you over there - if I did this again I would consider the small group or private charter as the boat was pretty big and a slow trip out.

Cons - difficult to find any with Bedarra. It's worth keeping in mind that you are in FNQ and at the mercy of the elements. We had great weather during our stay however they had had solid rain for a week or two prior to our arrival, which does limit the available activities quite a bit. We had a fishing charter lined up but had to cancel due to wind that morning, which wasn't at all Bedarra's fault and they did offer to re-book it for us. There are a lot of mosquitoes but the resort provides plenty of insect repellant to use. We went mid-May and the water was still warm with no stingers.

Overall we had a great stay and would like to return in the future. It's very much a relaxing beach destination and I think most couples would probably have an ideal stay of 5-7 nights unless you're keen to just chill out for a while like we were.

What an amazing place to spend our honeymoon. From the moment we arrived, nothing was too hard for the staff. The island is just an amazing place, the resort is beautiful and the views from the beaches and from the villas is simply spectacular. The meals were substantial and very nice. The bar facilities in the room and at the main house are first class. Special thanks to Jess, Lance and Mel who made our stay just that extra little bit special. We will be back.

It was quite a few years ago now that I visited Bedarra but after visiting many other luxury lodges it remains the best in Australia by far. Incredible service from the most lovely people, fantastic inclusions and experiences, beautiful food. Hope to return soon and hope it has not changed!

Magnificent island, villas, top notch meals, and privacy perfect for our honeymoon. The staff at Bedarra are incredible, from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave they are extremely helpful, friendly and nothing is too much. Excellent service!
