Crystalline Pottery

Yesterday was my third time visiting Crystalline Pottery. Each time I visit, the potter- Rod, greets with a smile and is ever friendly. He was busy with other customers when we got there but he found a way to also come say hello and to see if we had any questions about the pottery. Definitely a must see.

A trip to Rod's studio in Bonny Hills does add a special touch to those visiting Lake Cathie, Port Macquarie and surrounding areas.
His passion and enthusiasm for clay can rub off on you in a couple of minutes.

Amazing work on display and available to purchase. Rod demonstrated how he makes a clay vase on the pottery wheel. Extremely friendly, helpful and happy to answer any questions.

The Crystaline Pottery.
This was another delightful place. Some folks have been there before but still enjoyed the experience. Rod Page is renowned for his spectacular pottery glazed in crystal that is grown in the glaze. He made us very welcome and shared his great talent by making a very large bowl ( about 50 cms wide) and in the order of 7 – 9kgs in less than 5 minutes. All the time he worked at the wheel he explained the process of his work. The clay, how it is worked and how he reclaims waste trimmings and then bisque fires different shaped pieces including composite vessels. He showed us the very large “coffin kiln” he uses and fielded questions about how we would ruin his kiln should we want cremation services. His pottery is totally unique in that no human intervention apart from applying the glaze produces the amazing surface designs of grown crystals. The pottery studio is set in a beautiful tropical garden setting with original quirky crystalline garden ornaments. A fascinating place with lots of character – even the outside toilet was entertaining.

Loved every minute must 👌

I'm trying to find a way to fault this place, but I can't. I walked in expecting it to be absurdly expensive, but compared with other hand made works I've seen before - it's very reasonable. There's a showroom with pieces for sale, and the owner will make more by request at no extra cost.

The bloke that runs the place is a great guy, goes through the whole process of making the pieces, firing them, and growing the crystals that coat them. He's retired, and seems to run the place just because he loves talking shop. He gave us a demo, making a bowl before going talking through the rest of his process.

This is well worth a visit. It gets my "5 star - would visit again if I ever find myself back here" rating.

what a top bloke more than willing to help you out if you have any questions about pottery as my missus is amazing pottery n prices are very reasonable comparing what you pay for is handmade and not from china the layout of his property is very welcoming and he is more than willing to let you walk around the outside dunny is worth a look n the hand wash next to it is topps rod is a true people person we had a right lovely time (not bad for an ex teacher) highly recommend a visit

Divine. This lovely Potter is generous of time, techniques, photos, his crystalline pottery is stunning each piece different by natural chemical effects and tremendous heat. A revist is essential.

Amazing place, well worth the visit. We ended up buying a number of items.
