Beautiful walks through the forest! Definitely do the whole loop if you are good with lots of steps. Trails are well marked, and lots of waterfalls to see. Welcome center was nice, clean restrooms, a cafe, gift shop, etc. Worth a visit!

Spectacular walks in Mt Field National Park including Russell, Horseshoe and Lady Barron falls , Tall Trees walk, Lake Dobson, as well as many other wonderful walks in the area and in the alpine area. The cafe serves great food and coffee. Very friendly staff, helpful service with a smile. Lovely gift shop. Do not miss the opportunity to spend time here. Good for your soul and leaves you feeling wonderful after spending time in nature.

Russell & Horseshoe Falls are beautiful and easily accessible for short hikes. We visited during a dry spell. After rain, it's even better. The alpine region is accessible by a 16km narrow winding gravel road.

Visit the Mount Field National Park visitor centre before you do any walk will probably save you a lot of hassle from doing your walk planning. There are a lot of walks available, from really short walks (10-15 mins) to really long walks (more than 5 hours) and the signs and walks are well maintained. (Most of them are) lots of autumn colours 🍁 too. You can also do some walks starting from the visitor centre. Some of the roads are unsealed so a 4x4 would be best but I've seen some regular cars driving through too.

Tarn Shelf Circuit is a must do. Drive to Lake Dobson car park for the most picturesque, nature filled hike.

Absolutely spectacular. Nature in all it's pristine glory. Some amazing displays of the tallest trees & tree ferns. The three falls walk is well worth the effort. Not too hard to do & you will see a bit of everything & some beautiful waterfalls

We had the luck of being there when it was snowing. Absolutely beautiful. The road is reasonably accessible although an SUV is recommended but we did see sedans up the top. The road is not sealed but is very smooth. Highly recommend during snow conditions. Very very stunning when there is snow. May need to pay the standard National park fees.

Absolutely wonderful walk among tallest Eucalyptus and huge ferns! The entrance to the park costs 42 a$. We also drove to the alpine area and it is 30 min drive. Alpine area is nice but you can skip it if you have been to the top of mount Wellington.

As all the past reviews say, it is a breathtaking park. I walked the Tarn Shelf circuit, which took me 6ish hours; it snakes through windswept highlands and snow gumtree woods to lowland forests filled with birdlife.

What a fantastic place this is! There are so many wonderful experiences to enjoy here. The easy walk to Russell Falls is as much of a treat as the falls themselves. The forest of beautiful stately trees with an understorey of treeferns is magical.
Then there's the giant tree walk where you can experience the awe of bring amongst some of the world's most beautiful trees which are so important to the health of our planet.
Lunch at the Waterfall Cafe is delicious and sets you up for the wonders further up the mountain.
The 30 minute drive to Lake Dobson is well worth the many walks at the end. We walked around Lake Dobson which is a unique cold climate ecosytem with many unusual and beautiful plants growig around the lake and over giant boulders.
On the way back down, a stop at the Wombat Mosaic is so beautiful with it's blend of heath plants forming lovely patterns.
Of course if you're able to explore the longer tracks into the higher elevations I'm certain you'll find many more wonders.
Any finally the trip from and back to Hobart is through lovely Tasmanian farmland.
A great daytrip.

Great place for a days hiking, or stay overnight at one of the chalets and make it a couple of days. Most head for Russell Falls, which are worth a look, but head up to the hillwalking treks for the best experience.

One of my favourite trekking spots only 90 minutes from Hobart and an easy place to lose the crowds and see much native wildlife.

Nature sound and fresh air.

Stopped and spent a great couple of hours walking up to see the Russell Falls, then down thru the Tall Trees, very impressed with the path, lovely rangers who assisted in our choice with great advice.
we took a privet car from the information tourist center to go for the mounted field national park, since we have a baby 18 month old, the price was suitable cheaper than the bus. the amazing driver provided us with safety child seat which was perfect we enjoyed the trip and his knowledge of the places we went. Other cars or buss don’t have child seat and very tiring for long hours. I highly recommend the driver for small families especial with small baby.

It’s nice place to visit with family and friends. Russell fall is mesmerising on its own it’s just 30 min retun walk. Horse fall is just above the Russell fall it’s must visit

A walk to remember!

This walk is nothing less than an imaginary paradise! The beauty of this place can not be captured in any words/ pictures or videos. This beauty and freshness of air can only be felt.

This place is serene and untouched by any type of pollution and external modifications other than a few viewing points and walkway.

Walking here makes you realise what have we done to this planet...how did we get it and what have we turned it into!!

If you're visiting Tasmania, I'd highly recommend you to visit Mount Field National Park and do watch both of the falls!

Great National Park near to Hobart with plenty of walking tracks with great views and scenery.

Although be aware of two points, to reach quite a lot of the walking tracks requires a drive along a pretty sketchy dirt road. There are numerous points where there are blind hairpins and where it is not possible to pass cars safely.

Secondly, the walk to the top of Mount Field requires climbing over many boulders, some of which are quite loose. Plus there is no set track, so it is sort of a choose your own adventure type walk at that point.

We stopped here for a walk to stretch our legs (National park pass required). During our walk we saw a lyrebird and pademelon in the live, gum trees more than 75 metres tall (and growing when Abel Tasman visited in 1642, and the magnificent Russell Falls and Horseshoe Falls. It was only a 5 km trek and well worth it.

Excellent well kept national park ( supposedly the oldest in Tasmania) for leisurely walking among ancient tall trees, enjoying the sight n smell of flowing rivers, waterfalls, watching others fish n swim. Relaxing get-away for the family or the individual. Admire the majestic eucalyptus regnans (swamp gum) which can grow for 450 years reaching the height of a 30 storey building. Russell Falls is pretty but to say it is majestic is an exaggeration. Place is only 80 km (90 minute drive) away from Hobart City so very accessible to all. Definitely worth a day out.
