Great place for a swim with plenty of picnic spots. Busy in summer but off peak extremely peaceful. Good for kayaking or paddle boarding.

A lovely place to surround yourself with nature. Beautifully kept facilities and trail that may see you getting closer to roos than you'd have hoped. Peaceful and slow moving river that looks like the perfect place to jump in and escape the heat.

Well equipped Cotter nature facilities. BBQs, under cover tables and chairs, ample car parking and relatively clean public toilets as well. There was a large kids birthday party going when we were there, so I imagine get there early when it’s busy in summer.

Access to the water is relatively easy, but I noted a few people were fishing from the bank which made me nervous.

At the far end of the car park (left as you turn in) there is also a walking trail which takes you back to the bridge as well.

Well worth a swim in summer!!!

Always a lovely spot for a swim and a picnic. The water is a little murky and unpredictable in depth, but that just adds to the fun. Make sure you bring a picnic blanket, some sunscreen and something to nibble on and you’ll be set for a great afternoon of summer fun. It’s a very popular spot so make sure you come prepared to not be able to find a car park nearby.

It's probably one of the most popular fishing spots on the river but very convenient for all all levels of ability good spot for teaching as long as you don't mind waiting until after dark as swimming rules the water in day light hours

My favourite place to swim in the Canberra region. The place does get busy when it is very hot - unsurprisingly. The area is neat and there has been a relatively recent upgrade to the shore line with the construction of a board. Whilst busy during a hot day, it is always lovely and relaxed at dusk. Be warned though that telephone reception is non-existent down there. A+++

Perfect place for a summer picnic by the river, BBQ and bush walk. Great place for kids to spot kangaroos. If you are looking for a short getaway from Canberra, this is a good place to keep the kids entertained and for you to relax.

Lovely place for a picnic. Murrumbidgee river walking trail, which you can start from here is a good long trail.

Paths are a little over grown but facilities are well maintained. Great place to go read on the morning.

Fantastic place for a barbeque or a picnic. Really great place to swim in freshwater. Today the river current was running at quite a speed due to the great volume of water from recent rains. There are deep sections for strong swimmers but for others it safe to stay nearer to the banks. Mobile reception is non existent but there is an emergency phone at the far ends toilets. Its a natural reserve that is very well looked after by ACT Parks and Wildlife. Highly recommend a trip.

Casuarina Sands is lovely for swimming and picnics. Plenty of shade. Enough space for games. Space for parking.

Beautiful area for a BBQ picnic, swim in the river and relax. Bring your family and friends. There are electric BBQs available along with a toilet facilities.

The river can be deceivingly fast flowing with a strong current after rains. Water temperatures vary along with the season and is usually refreshing on the warmer days.

There is no mobile reception in the area so make sure you arrange details with your peeps before arriving; or you may be needing to send smoke signals.

Decent amount of parking though can be busy.

The Cotter picnic ground is nearby with playgrounds and coffee vans.

The water is very shallow so it's always a nice temperature. It gets a little cooler where it is deeper but it's very clear and slowly moving. The area is surrounded by lovely green grass and lots of natural shade by the trees. Has all the facilities to spend the whole day. Not a lot of parking on busy (hot) days.
