Tokyo Canteen offers an exceptional Japanese dining experience that shouldn't be missed. The eel is a highlight, perfectly cooked and served in generous portions that are sure to satisfy. Their lighter edition of authentic Japanese ramen manages to be both light and incredibly flavorful, striking a perfect balance. Another must-try is the karaage fried chicken, which impresses with its crispy exterior and juicy interior. Overall, Tokyo Canteen delivers on both quality and taste, making it a top choice for Japanese cuisine enthusiasts.

Tokyo canteen is a casual Japanese cafe located in Kingston, one of the best modern Japanese restaurants you’ll find in Canberra.

What I love about this place, the food is cooked with love & passion, not only is it nicely presented on the plate but the flavours of the dishes are cooked really well together. The salmon poke bowl & chicken teriyaki dish and I have to say it’s one of best I’ve tasted. The chicken & the mushroom was super delicious, it’s nicely cooked and tastes bloody good. Same goes with the poke bowl, looks simple but very tasty. Apart from these there’s also curry, udon, soba noodles, okonomiyaki (savoury pancake), unagi and tempura dishes.

Tokyo canteen is also a licensed bar that sells alcoholic drinks as well as nonalcoholic beverages and hot drinks.

We came for a weekend to Canberra and we found about this place. It matched our expectations and then some! The price is really good, portions are great, fresh and quality dishes ( we had salmon don and Tonkatsu ramen). The staff are really friendly! Highly recommend!!

I have been eating here since it opened. I love the simple but delicious Japanese dishes. They are hearty and fresh and simply yum. Their fusion dishes are balanced well and always leave you feeling happy.

Very tasty! Simple flavours done well. We tried six different dishes and each dish was yummy in its own way. Coffee was also a standout. Also sells an assortment of Japanese bowls and chopsticks etc

Great food. Ample seatings outdoors. Sun heats up indoors in the evenings.

Great Japanese cafe in Kingston! Their food is authentic and reasonably priced for terrific portions. Paid $11.5 for this chicken sando. Their Katsu Curry is also very good. 100% recommend popping in!

Service was relatively quick. Food was of good portion and delicious. I would definitely come back. Matcha latte is quite expensive but well worth it in my opinion. Best matcha latte I have had in Canberra.

I was craving for ramen from a tiring 7-hour trip from Melbourne. I was a little disappointed that their ramen is served from 5PM onwards just because we were going back to Melby on the day and that meant I couldn't satisfy my cravings lol..

Anyway, when we entered, the place was packed with customers. We ordered chicken curry, Carbonara, hot chocolate and matcha latte! The food and drink were 'OISHI' and I was very satisfied😀 The Japanese lady/owner was also very accommodating~ Thank you for the nice experience.. Hoping to come back for the ramen on our next Canberra trip😁

Tokyo Canteen may have a small menu but each dish is well done, full of flavour and of decent portion.

For starters we got the takoyaki and the karaage which were crisp and warm.

My favourite dish which I always try to get is the Unagi Don - the eel is silky and soft with plenty of smoked flavour. The rice and pickles are nice too.

We also had the Char Sui which was a massive portion and it was seasoned well. The garlic infused ramen broth was delicious too.

We've been before previously and some of our other favourites include the crispy Chicken Katsu with delicious curry.

Tokyo Canteen is a great place to eat in Canberra with a beautifully decorated setting. It's always a treat to come here!

Casual Japanese cafe for lunch! Food was fresh and really delicious. We ordered the Okonomiyaki and Teriyaki salmon with rice. The Okonomiyaki was scrumptious, crispy, hearty and not oily at all. I was surprised to find soba noodles in it. This is a very filling meal.

We also ordered the Momo tea which was a fragrant peach tea 🍑. Loved it! The free Babychinos for the kids were a delightful touch!

Overall:
Food: 9/10
Service: 7/10

Highly recommend!

Came here for lunch and found the food was tasty with generous servings. Service was lovely and enjoyed an oolong tea and their coffee.

The indoor space and seating is on the smaller side but plenty of outdoor seating. Will come back to try their other menu items 😊

The food at Tokyo Canteen is nothing short of world class. Although it's only Japanese street food, these are made to perfection. I've not had a better okonomiyaki anywhere. The Japanese curry rice was also one of the best I've had. Definitely would recommend. Yours truly @fooderarri

Tokyo Canteen is a new addition to the Kingston and Canberra dining scene. It is quite unique in a way that it serves Teishoku style meals. The food is definitely tasty, the eel, the tofu and the soba salad are all very good. The place is quite busy during lunch but is worth the wait for.

We tried salmon poke don teriyaki salmon and a very cute winking bear matcha latte.
It's a treat for a salmon lover to come here. The salmon is really tender and fresh in the salmon poke bowl. The teriyaki sauce is very delicious and not greasy. So that my friend, who had just tried a teriyaki salmon I made at home just the night before, decided never to eat my salmon again.

Loved the eggplant for dinner, it was super flavourful and great with the kale. My sister made special requests which they said yes which was lovely too! Quick service, pretty cheap, nice atmosphere
