Great hostel !
Felt like in the middle of the tropical rainforest, very close to the nature. You can easily spot wallaby and Casoar
Unfortunately it was raining when we stayed but still a good atmosphere
Plenty places to chill in the common area, and the pool is really nice
The disadvantage of being so peaceful is very little things to do, quite far from everything and the shuttle is 5-7$ each ride (quite expensive)
Only things i would change is: more plugs, because when someone has an adaptator is quite difficult to charge many devices in the same time, also hooks at the back of the shower doors, cause we don’t know where to put our stuff while showering, and maybe chairs or places to seat around the pool
Owners are really nice and helpful
Thank you !

Stayed at Jackaroo twice now and I really love it! I love being within the nature and it’s so peaceful and quiet.
Robin is the nicest Aussie I’ve ever met and was a friendly face every morning.
Would stay here again :)

We loved this hostel!

It was right in the rainforest amongst nature and had such a chilled vibe. The dorm we stayed in was spacious with high ceilings and comfortable. The plugs aren’t near the beds and often can only be used by one person when using an adapter. The communal areas are lovely, especially in the sun with a nice pool and plenty of places to chill. The homemade baked goods in the cafe are amazing - recommend the mars brownie! The staff are great, very informative on the area and the local shuttle is ideal to get around.

Our only additions would to be add some lockers, even small ones in the communal areas for people to put their valuables or small bags. Also for hooks to be put on the back of the shower doors to put your wash bag/clothes.

One of my favourite hostels I’ve stayed in so far! Robert is very quick at replying via email which I really appreciated and he’s always around cleaning the hostel, too, which is great. Very clean, great kitchen space and loved how easy it was to make friends in the common area. One improvement I would give is to add more plug/ USB sockets in the rooms because ours only had one which made it hard for everyone to charge their devices.

A bit outside of Mission Beach but such a beautiful and calming place to stay at. It’s easy to get there with the Mission Link Hotel Transfer Service! I really enjoyed it and thank Rob and his Team for the good time at Jackaroo Treehouse :)

Very nice hostel. Fly screens on kitchen and other windows. Nice communal areas and helpful staff. Very clean but hot kitchen.

Only negative is lack of places to hang clothes and towels while in the shower. And blinds on ladies toilets would help as people in laundry room can see in.

Highly recommend if you’re planning a visit to Mission Beach 😀👌🏻

Had a fantastic stay. In the middle of the rainforest this hostel had an awesome relaxed vibe which i really enjoyed. The other guests were friendly and sociable which made my stay better. Elliot at reception was brilliant, answering my many questions and was super friendly which again made the hostel experience even better. He kept the kitchen spotless and was always there help. Only downside is being far away from the town but most people are happy to split a taxi here. Thank you elliot and the team!

We stayed for one night and had a wonderful time.
The scene is incredible, inside the forest, with breathtaking views. There is a nice pool and clean facilities all around. There is a laundry room, kitchen, shared spaces, and a bathroom.
Family rooms are great, and we loved ours.
Bingil Bay is very close by - there is a wonderful coffee house, a lovely beach, a jetty, walking trips, and many other activities available.

It's a great place for a relaxing but fun vacation. It's mostly for young people, but families will also enjoy it.

Such a nice place. I met so many great people and the overall vibe was super relaxed because of the accommodation lying directly in the rainforest. The kitchen was very clean and the other common areas were also really nice. The swimming pool was a great convenience, especially for a hostel.
I would definitely come back!

Jackaroos is one of the best hostels I’ve been to on the East coast of Australia, along with the most accommodating staff. I’m awful with names I’m sorry, but the manager is super lovely. He went above and beyond for us, giving us a lift when he went to the shops so we could go fishing and showed a genuine interest in our day, he’s also always busy making sure the hostel runs smoothly which is does. The English fella is also amazing. He’s very understanding, easy going, friendly & easy to talk to; he knows a lot about the area and is always more than happy to help. The other Australian guy who works there is also very understanding and funny and entertaining to talk to. All the staff keep a level of professionalism whilst keeping the whole vibe friendly and not formal or serious. The newly renovated cafe/ bar down stairs is amazing, lovely chilled out atmosphere & gives a British kind of craft beer pub vibe if that makes sense? Lovely decor, clean black and white tiles & you can enjoy a coffee in the morning in here with an array of fresh cookies whilst over looking the rainforest. There’s a lovely cafe which is a 20 minute walk down the road which has live music in the evening and serves big delicious pizzas for about $18 ( if you go in the evening, you can see fire flies and glow worms on the way! ). I’ve heard a lot of people say skip mission beach if you’re not going sky diving because there’s not much to do, which is wrong. Me and my friends loved it here, there are rainforest walks, lots of places to go fishing (and catch sharks from the jetty) if that’s your thing & the local town which is a fair walk (but you can jump on the shuttle bus which takes people to the sky diving centre to get there if you’re cheeky) has a lovely bar, an amazing coffee shop selling an array of local honey, house made dark chocolate, treats and goodies, and the beach has a really cool rope swing hanging off a tilted palm tree with an island in the background (fantastic photo opportunity) and the beach is flowing with fresh coconuts which you can crack open yourself using the coconut cracking station about 50 metres to the right of the rope swing (if you’re facing the beach). Also the rope swing is just infront of where the road cuts off if you were to walk directly to the beach from the skydiving centre (3 min walk). I give jackaroo and the location a 9/10. The hostel is amazing, very clean, the staff are incredible and friendly, and waking up in the morning, grabbing a fresh barista made coffee from downstairs and sitting in the hammock or on the sofa on the first floor decking over looking the rainforest in the morning is unbeatable. The only downside is the walk to the town, but I had a fantastic time chilling at the hostel, and like I said you can take the skydiving shuttle into the town, which will take you back to the hostel once the others have completed their sky dive which gives you about 4/5 hours in the town or sitting on the incredible beach… oh, and the hostel has a resident cassowary! Amazing place. Would 100% recommend and it gives you a nice break from the hussle and bussle from the business of the east coast. Thanks jackaroo for the amazing experience.

One of the best hostels we've stayed in. The manager was a very nice bloke and the rooms were pretty decent too. We even managed to see a cassowary the morning we were leaving! It just walked right on through the hostel. I would say though that if you're arriving on the Greyhound be prepared for a $35 dial a bus as your only form of transport. I would definitely come back here if I had a car!

OMG what a SANCTUARY and with the BEST views!!! Such friendly, accommodating staff...LOVE this place...not only does it serve the BEST coffee, lunch and dinner (the bagels are sooooo yum), but it is also opened until 10pm and licenced! What a great place to chill out in the middle of the Rainforest!!! The pool looks incredible and just such an interesting mix of visitors from all over the world...cannot wait to return! Thanks for being there!!

One of the best hostels I've ever stayed at. Excellent service, staff were looking out for everyone and keeping the place clean and tidy. Offered advice on what to do and things to see in the area.
Facilities were great, kitchen was spotless and nice and cool.
Outlook on the rainforest was unbeatable, the most idyllic setting for a hostel, to listen to rainforest noises all night was something special. Rooms had aircon and great beds.
Overall I would highly recommend, especially over one of the bigger chain hostels. Wish I stayed another night or two. 100% coming back if I'm in FNQ again.

Very peaceful hostel, wonderful for relaxing and quiet time! Far from grocery store, so get food before you go if you are cooking!

The Jackaroo hostel it's a beautiful hidden gem, we stayed there 2 nights on the 6p room, it has a nice open dining area with large tables, hammocks and a wonderful view to the rainforest.
It's also the playground of the Cassowaries who live around the area, so it's possible to see them in the mornings or afternoons
The facilities are spotless, the kitchen its one of the cleanest I've ever seen, people are really friendly and the staff/owner is always around making sure everything it's ok, and they're super friendly
I'm definitely anxious to go back when the new bar it's open!

Bonus track: there's this place called Bingil Bay Cafe, it's a lovely spot who has excellent hamburgers, definitely worth eating there!

Really enjoyed my time here. Rob is a great host, very helpful and genuine. It's slightly remote but you can walk 20 mins to a pub/restaurant in the evening. During the day you may need a taxi/your own car. Would stay again

After road tripping through FNQ I can honestly say that this has been the BEST hostel I’ve stayed at!

Immaculate vibes in the common area, plenty of hammocks to lounge in to enjoy the incredible view that looks out onto the rainforest.
Clean facilities, close to the beach and town if you have a car. Friendly owner.

A cassowary walking about.
Such a beautiful location, can’t recommend this place enough.
Enjoy!
