Sanctuary Retreat is an absolutely beautiful place - perfect to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The yoga room offers a beautiful space to practice and meditate. The cabins are luxurious and being amongst nature (even whilst showering) is sublime. The food is 5 star restaurant level with a broad variety of offerings and amazing flavours. To top it off the staff are extremely attentive and helpful. Needless to say I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would be back in a heartbeat.

We stayed only one night, but that was to our detrement. First of all the courtesy lift to the reception was handy, and so was the quick insight to the makings of the the Retreat. Our hosts were very friendly and relaxed. We got to chose between two rooms. As for the rooms, they were fanatastic. The choice to have just the mesh to see the forest on 3 sides was just amazing, but then the option to close everything up with sliding wooden doors made it private when needed. The walk through the forest to the car or beach was well marked, and easy enough. The bar and restaurant area was great. We didn't eat there but we saw and heard many happy customers. We did have a couple of drinks and it was great to see a very nice selection of beers and wines at more than resonable prices for the position. We have already recommended Sanctuary to many other people who live in the area or are thinking of travelling to North Queensland. A real treat.

Love the location, its the perfect balance of the rainforest and beach. The restaurant has a stunning view of the ocean. Love the huts, you can feel the rainforest breath and live around you. Blissful 2 hr private practice yoga session in the grounding yoga building. Love the outdoor toilet and shower, one with nature. The hammocks are super inviting and relaxing. Enjoyed the extensive selection of books and tarot cards. Super clean and functional communal showers, toilets and kitchen. The beach is walking distance, good exercise so I could enjoy delicious dinner and dessert! Paul, Veronika, Jas and team were very hospitable. Back to nature, peace, purification, happiness xx

This is really an amazing little place. In the tents (roof with mesh walls) you can hear the forest noises up close. It was great lying there in the morning listening. It’s close to the beach, has a nice little Resturant and is great for meeting people if you like in the common areas. It’s not for everyone but I loved my stay.

The more luxury like bungalow was amazing. You shouldn't expect a luxury hotel tho. The hotel is located right in the rainforest. I would recommend to arrive at day time because it can be though to find. The view from the restaurant was amazing there is just the nature and the sea. If you're looking to ditch the daily stress and relax and enjoy the nature, this is the place you have to visit.

Great little reserve. The owner, Paul, is very accommodating. There's lifts available for you if you do not fancy the walk from the car park!

In a rainforest, with excellent food and clean and tidy cabins with a comfy bed. Also saw a real life cassowary. Read the website, the place is as described. It isn't a five star resort, but it is a fabulous experience, with good service and amazing views.

The food served in the restaurant here is absolutely amazing...the best we've had in a long time. It's worth eating here for breakfast, lunch and dinner...

Lovely setting but so much room for improvement. The backpacker staff destroyed the ambience and invading our privacy early in the morning. Pet peeves I had were the guy sweeping leaves and cleaning roofs at 8am waking me up and looking directly into our bathroom while I was on the toilet, staff talking loudly under the dinning area while I was trying to enjoy my breakfast, mesh huts have many holes allowing mosquitoes to enter - woke up so many times to kill the buzzing blood sucking insects, resulting in a horrible sleep. Mesh huts are close to the foot path and each other = no privacy. Why is checkout at 10am? Too early to be relaxed.

Very disappointed, we left within an hour of checking in to find alternative accommodation because the accommodation and owner made us very uncomfortable. We booked a ‘deluxe canopy room with a balcony and sea view’. When we checked in, we noticed the shower and bathroom window faced straight into the main dining area. We brought this to the staff’s attention who were already aware so they quickly gave us another room. When we returned the old room key, the owner was there so we also made him aware of the lack of privacy in that room (although he would have already known). The owner made a joke out of the situation, suggesting that we were too ‘shy’ to handle the lack of privacy. This made us even more uncomfortable and we made the decision to leave. We were refused refund, but I’m very happy we left even despite the loss of money. Would not recommend to my worst enemy.

Unfortunately the pictures don't accurately describe this accomodation. After a 6 hour drive from Airlie beach we arrive to a 'room' with mesh walls, holes in the floor and the hugest spider I've ever seen amongst many more bugs. There was another mesh room right next door so had anyone else been in there they would of basically been sleeping with us and seen straight into the bathroom or should I say toilet and shower on a decking in clear sight. I've tried to contact the owner twice with no response, we got straight back in our car and continued to cairns, I feel very ripped off! $90 for nothing it's false advertising. Your website is covered in photos of rooms with four solid walls and if you don't go looking for photos of these over priced mesh tents you will be feeling exactly like I am.
