We had an excellent stay at the Prairie. Its more remote location made it appear as a bit of an oasis. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The rooms were clean, an excellent bed and a good night's sleep. Good selection of beers and wines. The food was great, and though perhaps a bit more pricey than what you'd expect at your local city or town pub, one needs to keep in perspective the Prairie's location. Great just sitting out front of the bar and having a drink while watching the sunset. If up that way again I'd make a point of staying at the Prairie.

The husband was here 10 years ago and loved it, so he brought me back. Place had changed heaps but hadn't lost its overall appeal. Food is incredible! I had a kangaroo snitzel, and he had a feral mixed grill (kangaroo, camel, emu).

Pub had been renovated in that time, and the owners brew their own beer, which the husband rated. I sampled some local SA gins with tonic.

The Musician on a Friday lunchtime was unexpected, but she was amazing.

Would come again!

Our guys drove 85km for a beer to revisit The Prairie Hotel at Parachilna. We have visited twice before, but on our last trip it was closed for renovations. They have a micro brewery there now which had to be sampled ( or so I was told). Renovations are really great and staff were also. Well worth a visit.

The sympathetically renovated building retains the old world charm, while giving a stylish update. The food was great, as was the beer brewed on site, and I’ve never experienced nicer staff! A special mention to Becky and Ellie, who were literally the nicest and most hospitable hosts we have ever had! We also enjoyed the unique experience of staying in a pub in the middle of nowhere. This place isn’t perfect, but we loved our stay here and will definitely be back!

What a stunning location!
Amazing accommodations with great service from friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Great dinner using fresh local ingredients including indigenous species. The only criticism I could give would be that breakfast was not up to the standard of everything else. I would still recommend though. 😊

Our stay at Parachilna Prairie Outback Lodge was amazing. From the moment we were greeted with Ellie’s wonderful smile we knew we were in good hands. The staff, the food and the location were exceptional. The lodge was tastefully decorated in a chic country style. This gastro pub is not to be missed. Meg

We had dinner on Easter Sunday and it was absolutely beautiful. The aesthetic, atmosphere and the staff are second to none and the food, holy moly it's amazing. "Best burger I've ever had!" Miss 13.
"I could eat that whole antipasto myself, it's delicious." Miss 15
"This pasta is perfect and the pudding is the best" Miss 9.
YOU HAVE TO TRY THE PUDDING!
Now let me explain about this pudding. The quandong pudding is the perfect balance between modern and grandma's recipe done to perfection. It was one of the highlights of our meal and the perfect end to an awesome night. Thank you to all the staff at the Prairie.

We came here to finish off our Flinders Ranges roadtrip with the Kangaroo tail and it was divine! Lunch until 3 and dinner starts at 5/6 if I can recall. They recommend booking and I see why! They also have their own brewed beers and the stout was my winner!

I can't express how amazing the food is. The Feral Antipasto was a favorite. The staff were super friendly and gave great suggestions. There are options for vegetarians, so nobody misses out. If you find yourself in the area, stopping by for a meal is a must do.

I have not been to The Prairie Hotel but I had the Prairie Hotel lunch special at Tasting Australia in Adelaide. They came down for the day to showcase their Feral Mixed grill.

It was fantastic - I loved the Camel sausage the best!

This pub is a must see at Parachilina. The Prairie Hotel has amazing food and their own brewed beer. The staff are great and even brought out an activity book and pencils for our child without us even asking. We didnt stay here but if the rooms are as good as the pub shouldn't be a problem.

A must see if you're in the area!
Well worth a solid drive to visit the lodge.

Muster up a thirst as they do a good beer.
The art work is great.
We didn't try the food options due to timing but it looks to be an experience 👍🏻

We had an amazing lunch here today. It was delicious. For the middle of nowhere, it is beautifully done and renovated. It is pricey, but to be expected. Would recommend.

We had an amazing lunch at The Prairie Hotel celebrating a 60th birthday. The restaurant is beautiful with gorgeous artworks and lovely decor. The food was sensational: emu pate, lamb, kangaroo schnitzels, slow roasted spuds, and quandong pudding. A great wine list and wonderful, attentive staff. Thankyou for making our birthday lunch so special.

Fabulous, an impressive renovation with luxury rooms, delicious local food, wine and hotel-brewed beer, and a wide horizon perfect for watching the sunset and the stars. The service is second to none, and everyone is extremely friendly. Definitely not your typical outback hotel!!! Highly recommended for a luxury treat, and a perfect base for the Nilpena Ediacara National Park Fossil tour.

We travelled here one week before their summer closure period, so it was hot. We also had two dogs with us and because the tiles out the front were cool that's where we sat. It's a beautifully renovated pub that has maintained its charm. It feels like a family affair, very welcoming. The food was pretty good, and the wine and beer were extremely tasty. The music was unexpected, it sounded like my own playlist. Very cool and chilled.
This would be a great place to visit during the cooler months when the front is brimming with locals and tourists alike.

This is a "destination" venue. We were camping nearby (50 km up the road is near by) and booked in for lunch. You will need to book for the restaurant as it is busy most of the time. The food was brilliant. Emu pate, wild boar ragout, camel rissoles, salt bush pakora and quandong steamed pudding. Yum!

About Parachilna
Town in Australia

Parachilna is a country town in South Australia. The town was first surveyed in 1863 due to its closeness to a government water well. It is on the railway line and road between Port Augusta and Leigh Creek. Today, the Prairie Hotel, railway station, airstrip and a few buildings remain. The road east into the Flinders Ranges leads through Parachilna Gorge, recognised for its scenic beauty, to Blinman. The town is surrounded by Motpena station pastoral lease. The town's name is from the Aboriginal patajilnda, meaning "place of peppermint gum trees". The spelling difference is due to an early translation misreading. The railway station was completed in 1881 as part of the line to Leigh Creek through Beltana. The area was one of the set locations for the Australian feature film, Rabbit Proof Fence. The Prairie Hotel is the only substantial building in the town, dating from the days when the rail was supreme. Away from the highway, the hotel fronts the railway line and the now derelict station building. The sandstone and limestone building has been in part retained, in part restored and extended. source
