Very serene spot considering what had gone on there in the past. The story boards give a great insight into the tree's history. They point out other bits of man made equipment nearby.

Its hot..very hot and the ventilation in that tree would be zero..not a good destination for an indigenous prisoner..remarkable illustrated history given as you approach ..10 minutes out of Derby in the mighty Kimberley

Prison Boab Tree is a cultural significant place for my people, so bringing my kids out here was definitely something to do when we came home to country.

There's quite a bit of history at this one spot; Prison Boab tree, Frosty's Pool, Myles Bore and the windmill that continues to pump the bore to this day.

The Boab Prison Tree is undeniably fascinating, but it carries a very dark history. Despite its intriguing features, the historical context adds a layer of solemnity, serving as a poignant reminder of the complex and often somber narratives that shape our understanding of such landmarks.

On the way into Derby, entry signed to the prison boat tree. Under covered information area, concrete floor with yellow and brown swirls of color. Big boab tree fenced, with opening in the trunk of the tree where prisoners held by police in the day.

The tree itself is a lovely sight. Other than this there is not much to see. The history behind this site is fascinating and this alone makes a visit here worthwhile. The drive here is wonderful.

Approaching the prison tree, taking in its surroundings along with the enormity of the tree itself, you can't help but feel horrible for the way Europeans treated the Aboriginal people back in the day. The tree is over 1500 years old, most likely used as shelter or a meeting place prior to European arrival. But then came the white man and it was used as a convenient holding cell for officers to sleep.

Overall, it's a great first stop when seeing it too explore the Kimberly. There's a few shady trees to park under and well put together information boards at the entrance.

Definitely worth the stop to find out not only about the tree, but also history of the area.

Sadly over the years there has been a lot of damage and vandalism but the tree itself is remarkably still alive, with a boundary fence to stop honest and respectful visitors from getting too close. Unfortunately not everyone adheres to remaining behind the barrier.

This 2000 year old tree is amazing . It was once used as a prison the tree is just off the main Hwy .They used to put up to 19 prisoners in the tree and it had steel bars which have since been removed. it is sad that people have been carving there name into this tree for the last few hundred years into a tree that’s been here before Christ

Such an iconic place to stop. Look around for the swimming pool and the watering trough as well. This tree was never used as a lockup. It was used as a campsite. Aboriginal slaves were rested here before the final days walk into town.

Great place to visit to learn about the previous events and how people lived back in the day. Really great historical information about this particular tree, and informs a lot about the Aboriginal heritage and cultural which I did enjoy reading about. I 100% recommend this place to people.
