Great food and service. My wife and I ate here for dinner on our anniversary. I noted this when booking and not too many places take notice of that. While we were eating they brought out 2 glasses of sparkling on the house for us which was a lovely gesture.
Great food and cocktails. We had the banquet which was plenty of food and all great quality.
We really enjoyed ourselves

Fantastic! Fresh, clean, spicy (but not too hot), and we enjoyed every last morsel. The menu is smallish, but everything looked great. (We chose the banquet as it saved us making choices). It was like the best local Thai food I've had, but at the next level of flavour and balance, and certainly worth the extra $ (this is not a cheap thai takeaway!).
Casual but stylish atmosphere, and staff were helpful but not intrusive.
They take walk-ins too, so even if they are booked out, turn up anyway: we didn't book, and only had to wait 20 mins on a Saturday evening for a table for two.

Absolutely exceptional restaurant. The food is incredible, the beef shin just melts in your mouth. The dessert was definitely one of the best I've ever eaten. The service is phenomenal, absolute cracker place to go.

Wow! This place really delivered.

Atmosphere-you definitely get a bit of a fancier vibe than your normal dinner place. Even though we went mid-week this place was pumping and the amount of people that were turned away because they hadn't made a booking surprised me. It's 100% a place to book prior.

Food-we ordered the banquet which was really worth it. The lamb ribs, pork and crispy rice with mince were our top picks! I also had a cocktail which was very tasty! $89pp for the banquet and were left pleasently full.

Overall, would come back here for special occasions and would recommend the banquet for the price of what you get

One of my most favourite Thai food places in Melbourne, the taste was quite authentic, excellent service and good wine pairing options.
Every dish we ordered was delicious and flavourful, but the oysters were exceptionally tasty.
Is now one of my go to thai places.
Ambience was great too

A very nice Thai fusion restaurant, great dishes. We chose the set menu and pleasantly surprised with some very nice food especially the betel leaf prawn appetiser and deep fried red snapper (this is an optional addition). We also added the spanner crab with bean sprouts, yummy!

A few of us had some interesting cocktails and the bottle of Tasmanian Pinot Gris goes very well with the dishes.

Most of all the service’s great, they’re friendly and attentive. Thanks for a great evening!

A Melbourne institution serving consistently good food and service every time I’ve come here. Fun fact: 100 year old building used to be a horse stable with interior design delivered by Hecker Guthrie.

Booking: We booked for a Monday night and came in as a group of 10 people. Weeknights you can try walking best to book weekends.

Transport: it’s the city so you can roll the dice for street parking, A short walk away from parking garages or just tram it in.

Seating: There are plenty of seating options from two to large groups with high seating at the bar or table. We were seated at a large table with our personal trainer, lazy Susan 😂 moving Susan turned into a good team building exercise, we had fun. would definitely sit at this table again.

Drinks: decent selection of everything - note the there are Asian versions or influences of the classic cocktails.

Food: we booked the banquet and it did not disappoint. It’s on the expensive side but you pay for what you get - a great selection of dishes. I had to dash so missed out on desert.

Appellation oysters, roasted red chilli nahm jim, fried shallots
Betel leaf, poached prawn, peanuts, lime
Yum Kao Tod: Crispy rice, pork mince, ginger, mint, coriander, chilli, peanuts
Caramelised pork hock, five spice, chilli vinegar
Khao Soi, lamb shoulder, pickled mustard greens, crispy egg noodles
Stir fried gai lan (Chinese broccoli) chilli, yellow bean soy
Steamed jasmine rice

Chill ambiance dark wood with green scale tiles can spend an evening here easily - for work dinner, taking someone one a date, catching up with a friend. you can’t go wrong. 10/10 will dine here again.

We were greeted so nicely by your front of house staff member and then we enjoyed the most delicious food. The beetle leaf was the highlight, although every dish was absolutely amazing. Highly recommend this restaurant. All the staff were fabulous ☺

Having visited Longrain restaurant several times, I can confidently say that the food has never disappointed me.
One standout dish that I highly recommend is the "eggnet" which not only impresses with its presentation but also delivers on taste. Another highlight at Longrain is the crispy whole fish. The perfectly cooked fish with its crispy exterior is a testament to the kitchen's skill.

Hands down best service and food my friend and I received during our short stay in Melbourne and we ate out ALOT. We made a last minute reservation and went for the banquet - the poached chicken curry sauce was a DREAM and the coconut pudding was the perfect accompaniment. Michael was such a wonderful host and dropped by several times to have a yap, our lovely waiter was also super attentive.
Such a wonderful evening, we will be recommending this to any Sydney friends planning to visit.

Beautiful sensory experience for tastebuds. Felt like I travelled to up class Thailand. Waiters were helpful and polite. Restaurant is spacious and comfy. Washroom was a bit cram and dark though.

Longrain Loved By All

Last week we had the opportunity to dine with my dearest friend and his family. That means this was a special occasion. None of them had been to Longrain so the choice of restaurant was made easy.

There is something very special about the atmosphere at Longrain, the look, the feel and the vibe all add to the experience. From the warmest of greetings upon arrival to the laughter and care provided the Longrain team are the very best.

We began with the renowned betel leaf, with poached prawn, peanuts and lime. A single sensational bite. The newbies opted for the Ma Hor, caramelised tofu with peanuts and pineapple. It was a new experience for each of the four and they enjoyed it.

The classic filled eggnet with spanner crab, caramelised coconut, bean shoots and peanuts is a genuinely enjoyable dish. It really gets the palate ready for the tasty sensations to come. Next up is the most luxurious of dishes in the salt & pepper silken tofu, crispy eschalots and sweet soy. The sweet soy is just mouth-wateringly good and the tofu is the absolute best. As I have said before, more than once, if someone says they will never eat tofu get them to try this. If they can genuinely say they do not like it then they will never like tofu because this is the ultimate tofu dish.

Next up was a new one for us, Stir-fried king dory, turmeric, kangkung, spring onions and peanuts. The fish was perfectly cooked and so flavoursome. We had some stir-fried gai lan, chilli and yellow bean soy with a side of steamed jasmine rice as the accompaniment.

Also on the table were the exceptionally tasty Rendang curry, fried tofu, asparagus, summer squash and lotus root, the Coconut poached chicken, Vietnamese mint and pickled green chillies, a Red curry of twice cooked duck legs, lychees, cherry tomatoes and Thai basil, and the special “Pad Kee Mao”, stir fried drunken noodles, with pork and a range of vegetables. This final dish was on the menu as part of Longrain’s “Our Thai Memories” celebrations where team members add a dish that means something to them, from their home. Such a great idea.

I cannot comment on the meat dishes but I trust those we shared the meal with and we had a great discussion about which was the favourite. I think the duck wins the contest on points but, it was a close decision. The duck came away from the bone with ease and was accompanied by a perfect red curry. The poached chicken also rated highly and we were urged to convince Longrain to add a vegetarian option featuring the coconut sauce. There was also some drooling taking place when talking about the drunken noodles. Suffice to say diners were impressed.

Of course we were never going to leave without dessert but even I have to admit it went a little over the top. You should know what is coming for dessert. There is no going past the coconut sorbet and we all opted for that although the boys decided on one scoop of the sorbet and one of the Vietnamese coffee ice cream to be shared. The team at Longrain decided we had to try more so also arriving at the table was scoops of black sesame ice cream and hibiscus & raspberry sorbet to complete the ice-cream options. It didn’t stop there, burnt duck egg custard accompanied by blood plums and raspberry hibiscus sorbet and the Coconut pudding with mango mousse and black sticky rice sorbet also arrived. Spoonfuls were being tried by everyone as the dishes made their way around the table.

I love raspberries so the sorbet was thoroughly enjoyed, and the coffee ice cream was delightful. The burnt duck custard was a treat and the coconut pudding was yummy. Have to say I wasn’t quite convinced by the black sesame ice cream, it was interesting, but the others all loved it.

By the end of that we were all full but, we were very happy.

Beautiful food and amazing service. I can't wait to come back to Melbourne so I can eat here again! We ordered the caramelized tofu, crab eggnet and Thai green vegetable curry and could not fault any of these dishes. My cocktail (Gin Sin?) was delicious. Loved everything about the building, the lighting and all shades of green made for a great experience...it was gorgeous.

LOVE this place. Have been coming for 12+years . It went a little pear shaped after change of ownership but they’ve redeemed themselves and I can’t stop day dreaming about eating their again

I came here with my partner last night. The food is incredible, and the staff are so personable and knowledgeable. Some highlight dishes were the wagyu tartare, jungle curry and mandarin pudding — hats off to our bartender, Tim, who made us some delicious cocktails. Thank you so much!
