Cradle Mountain and Dove Lake are really worth the trip. Beautiful landscape and plenty of wildlife from wallabies to wombats. I also enjoyed the delicious lunch and the stops in the towns of Deloraine and Sheffield. John is a very knowledgeable guide and great company.

We spent a lovely day with John touring Cradle Mountain, Sheffield and Railton and we also had time to see Cataract Gorge.
John is a great host and so very knowledgeable.
And John more than fulfilled his two rules for each day - a great day out and arriving back home safely!! We certainly will be back to visit.

The tour to book if you normally don't book tours! My partner and I are more the solo traveller types but needed to book a tour this time around as the cost to hire a car was insane! John did not disappoint. He is an awesome guy who has travelled the world and has a yarn or two about his experiences. John was super approachable and made the journey around Tazzie a comfortable experience. We would definitely book a tour with him again, if not just to hear more of his tales.

Read on if you'd like to find out more about the Trowunna Wildlife sanctuary day tour.

My partner and I had come to Launceston on a last minute trip and so were a bit unorganised. The cost to rent a car was astronomical and so we decided to book a tour on a Saturday evening, to take the next day.

John was more than accommodating. He organised everything for us at the last minute and even managed to squeeze us in on a cave tour.

We set out from our hotel and John gave us all the history of Launceston which was very interesting. He toured us around the country up to Mole Creek to visit Trowunna Wildlife sanctuary where he guided us around the park until the official park tour began. This tour was led by Ned, who was a great guide and very knowledgeable about the local fauna. We even got to see a Tasmanian devil's babies hiding away in their mothers pouch.

Not to mention, John will take candid photos and send them to you throughout the day, making for some fantastic memories!

We moved on from the sanctuary to Mole Creek caves where we got to go on a great tour of one of the cave systems. We were led by Dave (the discoverer of a new spider in that cave system!) who has guided guests through that system for years. He was great to chat to and an all around nice guy.

Next we moved onto lunch at an adorable little cafe called Earthwater for a delicious meal. It's also worth mentioning John had supplied water and fruit to sustain us during our journey. Earthwater had a great selection of food. We had the loaded baked potato and eggs benedict between us. I've never had baby spinach taste so good!

To work off our lunch we headed out for a short walk up to view the Alum Cliffs. The walk isn't too challenging and the pay off is amazing.

To round out the day we went and tasted honey at the Honey Farm. I recommend the wildflower! And then hit up the salmon farm 41° south for a wander and chat to local pioneer Ziggy.

It was then time to call it a day, but not before John shared with us the history of Tasmania and a tour around to view Launcestons historic buildings.

It was then time to head back to our hotel where John left us with some souvenir maps and the rest of the strawberries to eat!

John was fantastic for the entire day, always checking in and sharing a dad joke or two!

Tasmania is one of our favourite places to visit and we will be sure to hit up John the next time we're in town.

I did two tours with John at Discover Tasmania: both “Bay of Fires” and “Wildlife and Wild Caves” and they were both absolutely wonderful day-trips. I am extremely grateful to have done both and also to have chosen Discover Tasmania as my tour host/guide. They were insightful on much of Tasmania’s rich history and many points of interest across the land. I learned so much as well as enjoying finally getting to visit some spots I otherwise wouldn’t have accessed (I don’t drive/have a license). There was ample time, no rush but no messing around either; lunch was provided which was an exceptional bonus - as well as having a friendly, helpful and thoughtful host who ensured we didn’t miss a beat, taught us more about every spot we passed or dropped into and gave us time, privacy and leisure at every point. Couldn’t fault it! I’m very thankful! I would 100% book through Discover tas again and can be confident I’ll enjoy myself and understand more about these places than I would have if I’d gone alone. Thanks!!

A once in a lifetime experience delievered in a professional manner! Bays of Fire is a must do when visiting the region and trust me you will not regret it. You will be guided through the turquoise and blue waters of the bay by an amazing guide whom we are so grateful to have met .I desperately wanted to visit the lavender farm ,so John customised our trip last minute .This custom tour was great to see this part of Tasmania in a day trip.
John has fantastic knowledge of the History of Tasmania, and places along this part of the coast, and the industries that support the area.etc
John was very pleasant and made the day very enjoyable, and comfortable .

10/10 would recommend the Launceston to Ben Lomond half day trip. John is such a friendly and warm tour guide that spends the day with you taking your pictures and making sure you are all good. He likes to say "come as guests, leave as friends" and I can completely understand what he means. He is what also makes the trip special, not just the sites but his personality. On this trip you also get to go to a lookout on the way to the top of the mountain. Its a surreal view from above the clouds.

Huge thank you to John for going out of his way last minute to take me on a wonderful adventure day trip to Cradle Mountain. Amazing scenery around Dove Lake Track showing me all the great spots for that picture perfect photo and the knowledge he has of this beautiful place. Definitely will be back. John also showed me all the little towns on our way back to Launceston. Appreciated all you did especially the quiz at the end of the day to see if I was paying attention 😅

What an incredible experience!
First and foremost, John is such a friendly, kind and knowledgeable tour guide. My husband and I went on both a half day and a full day trip with John and could not recommend him highly enough.
On top of that, the vehicle was spacious, clean and comfortable, and the website was accurate in what you can expect to see and do (though Tassie will take your breath away regardless!).
Thank you Discover Tasmania Tours for making our first trip since COVID one to remember fondly <3

Enjoyed our package tours Hobart was excellent except finding our way to the dock for our tours accommodation was excellent
Launceston accommodation was good and the tours were a lot slower pace which was what we needed to wind down . Highly recommended booking with these guys.

We are so thrilled we stumbled across John and discover Tasmania Tours. We had hired a RV to drive around Tasmania, and wanted to take our little girl up to see the snow at Ben Lomond NP. We knew the RV was not going to be suitable and reached out to John to see if he had a tour. The tour was perfect and Johns knowledge not only of the mountain but also Tasmania was brilliant. It was like we had known him for years. He even had a car seat for our little girl. He even captured photos of us as a family playing in the snow and sent them to us. We never get photos together m. We had the best day in the snow and has been the highlight of our trip. We even had time to stop in at cataract George on the way home. Its so nice to see such a honest, humble and knowledgable tour guide still in business,. It was an absolute pleasure meeting John and can’t rate his tours highly enough . He gave us so many great tips for the rest of our journey as well which is much appreciated x
