It is right on the river at Townsville, to be honest with you I do not know the name of this river at all, I'm sorry about that, but it is a very beautiful area to walk along , there are no BBQ area to cook at it just a park alone the river you can have a picnic there but the is not cooking area . It is great during the day time but night time it is really amazing place to visit, I do recommend this place to visit . In fact Townsville is a beautiful place to visit anytime of the year, as this is my first time here at Townsville and I love it.

Great photo opportunity and cool view of river, Castle Hill and the 'Sugar shaker'/'Lipstick' Hotel - iconic Townsville.

Set up with beautiful backdrop. Would be nicer again if they kept grass green just in this area for photos also.

I think it’s a cool idea . And as a distinct from other cities without any “I love” signs before .

If you are visiting the Townsville region, this is a must go to place for any of your photos. There is on street parking available (but if there is none directly opposite the sign, Dean St and Palmer St both have carparks available). Toilet facilities however aren't very close, with one option being at Bulletin Square (across the bridge) or at one of the venues on Palmer St.

During the day the sign is plain white, but at night time, it lights up - and the colours will change depending on events happening around the city or the world.

I visited here yesterday for the local pop-up Food Truck event, which drew a very big crowd. (The signage is pretty solid, and held up well to the many kids climbing over it.) When there aren't any events on though, it is nice to stop by and go for a walk along the creek edge wooden boardwalk which is directly behind it and leads up to the stadium.

Townsville's biggest Townsville sign !!!

Dial in " tourist attraction" and see what pops up.

Check out the beaches in and outside of town. New walking trails have been built, check out the museums and take a stroll along the strand. The rock pool is where many people swim, its nice ( you'll see).

You can walk from the marina , along the strand, jezzine barracks and walk all the way to Kiteboarders Point, Cape palleranda and beyond.

Main places:

Strand water park ( kids)

Reef HQ aquarium

The Strand - the thing that made Townsville liveable, a popular spot to shoot the breeze and get exercise.

The Rockpool

North Queensland museum ( next to reef HQ aquarium).

Odd ball places :
Townsville Museum , located outside of CBD in currajong ( run by pensioners, collection of stuff of yesteryear Townsville)

RAAF Townsville Museum

Scenic places:

Castle Hill ( theres an observation post on one of the tracks on the summit - marked as "the position"). A brand new lookout has been constructed just before the carpark at the top.

Mount Stewart ( theres a small track around the summit - take mosquito repellent when wet / raining)

Pallaranda ( old quarantine station and gun emplacement)

Ross River Dam Wall ( 8.4km trip each way, do early in morning, evening. Perfect time is winter. Probably the best walking track in the country. Best done when theres wind, early morning or winter , during the day if you have a hat and good sneakers - there can be small flies/ mosquitoes in the evening in summer.)

Kite boarders Point

Secret Beach ( dog walkers and fishermen)

Mount Louisa walking track ( this is a brand new walking track).

Townsville Common ( the road to shelly Beach was closed to vehicles because it was easier for those responsible for the place to shut it and do nothing - the road used to go to near the back of Shelley beach and has a glorious vista of the common and castle Hill along its length.)

Toolakea Beach ( go and see it before its destroyed by development)

Generally Townsville is the better jump off point to the entire area. Go directly west and you head off towards charters towers and the abyss of the outback. Head north on the highway and you get to ingham and associated points of interest such as Wallaman Falls , the frosty mango, crystal Creek, Palluma. Theres another road heading north west on herveys range road to get to pipers lookout, the tea house and everything past that is outback Australia. Magnetic Island is where most backpackers end up and why most of them even come here.

Take water, a mobile phone, a hat, mosquito repellent, sunscreen and a backpack as a visitor anywhere in Queensland. ALWAYS follow the warning signs and if it looks dangerous to climb - don't.
