Nature’s wonder! What a great hike!! We went with kids 6/9 years old and had incredible time hiking. The track is well maintained and moderately hard. The views are great and 🪨 rocks look stunning. Such a great marvel to enjoy. Water, sunscreen, hat and sunglasses 🕶 are a must! We had a small bag pack so our hands we were totally hands free but saw some people struggling with stuff in hand. Bag packs are very handy. We saw a few lizards 🦎 and hedgehogs 🦔 Hike is for little older kids I would say like 4 and above. Saw some parents struggling with strollers definitely not a stroller hike. But all in all amazing rocks with great views and nice hike!

It is a nice hike, not very tough one and not easy. You can go through stairs or through a steep ramp. The entire hike is almost 1.5 km and it is advertised as 50 mins, but you can do it in less than that. Nice views at the top. Make sure to bring your water with you, there is no water in the hike.

I visited Hanging Rock Reserve on a sunny day and enjoyed the 1.8 km walking track that leads to the summit. The views from the top were stunning and the rock formations were fascinating. The track was well-maintained, but I would recommend wearing comfortable shoes and bringing water and sunscreen. The reserve also has a cafe and a picnic area. I would highly recommend hanging rock to anyone looking for a relaxing and scenic day trip.

$10 per car exit fee. Beautiful facility though. Climbed the feature, well worth it! Definitely worth a visit to this icon.

This place is beautiful for those who love to spend time in nature. Whether it's to take a hike or walk at your own pace, and/or enjoy the picnic area with family and friends, or even on your own for some r&r.

The structure of the rocks, the view and possible sighting of a koala bear makes the experience inspiring.

We started 2024 off with a beautiful hike to Hanging Rock on the New Year Day!

The entry fee stung a bit. It was higher($25 each) than usual ($14) as there was a race event.

Walk to the summit is not a walk in the park, so grab some supportive shoes and carry a bottle of water. The trek took about an hour and the stunning view from the summit is worth every bead of sweat. If you are looking for a scenic adventure with a bit of holiday buzz, Hanging Rock’s got your back (and legs) covered. Happy trails, everyone!

We go for the old car show usually held at the end of January.

Pack a picnic and head to Hanging Rock. Easy drive from Melbourne. Plenty of shade and grass area for family activities like a game of cricket or ball.

During events like the car show grass area is limited, food vans and some stalls are available.

Great day out with the family.

Haven't been on the walks for years, though the tracks appear to be wide and gravelled.

great walking trails.. various lookout spots, overall very scenic and enjoyable to immerse yourself with nature. Once you reach the peak of the rocks, you would be amazed by the beautiful backdrop and the feeling is so accomplished!

Would come back again, worth the sweat!

A beautiful place to visit and also check how fit you are.
This place has lots of parking and you do not need to think once while you enter.
The car park actually goes around and if you can’t see parking at the start then keep driving forward and you’ll find lots of other places to park the car.
Few of the toilets were there in case.
Good place for family picnic.
Got some small area for little one to play around and younger one can enjoy their soccer or footy 🏉.
Drinking water facility was there in case you need to refill your water bottle.
Couple of things to know about the place when you visit there.
The place looks really beautiful once you reach at the top of the rocks.

Hanging Rock is a geological formation located in the Macedon Ranges, approximately 70 kilometers northwest of Melbourne, Australia. It is a popular tourist destination for its unique rock formations and surrounding bushland.

The main attraction at Hanging Rock is the rock formation itself, which is a series of concentric basalt columns that rise up to 100 meters in height. The columns are formed from the cooling of molten lava and are said to be over 300 million years old.

Visitors to Hanging Rock can hike to the top of the formation for stunning views of the surrounding countryside. There are also a number of walking trails that wind through the bushland, passing by waterfalls and other scenic spots.

In addition to its natural beauty, Hanging Rock is also steeped in history and folklore. The Aboriginal people of the area have a number of stories about the rock, and it is believed to be a sacred site. In the 19th century, Hanging Rock was the site of a number of mysterious disappearances, which have been the subject of much speculation and intrigue.

Today, Hanging Rock is a popular tourist destination for both locals and visitors from all over the world. It is a place to enjoy the natural beauty of the Macedon Ranges, learn about the Aboriginal culture and history of the area, and perhaps even catch a glimpse of the elusive Hanging Rock "spirits".

Here are some things to keep in mind when visiting Hanging Rock:

The best time to visit is during the spring or autumn, when the weather is mild.
Wear comfortable shoes, as there is a fair bit of walking involved.
Bring water and snacks, as there are no facilities at the top of the rock formation.
Be aware of the weather conditions and dress accordingly.
Respect the natural environment and leave no trace.
Overall, Hanging Rock is a beautiful and fascinating place to visit. It is a great place to enjoy the outdoors, learn about Aboriginal culture and history, and perhaps even catch a glimpse of the elusive Hanging Rock "spirits".

Great little hike about an hour from Melbourne. Less than 1 km and not too strenuous, awesome views alongside the massive rocks at the top. Definitely recommend for individuals or families. For the most part and very well cut track to the top as well. Nice little Cafe and centre at the bottom for refreshments after your hike.

A great place to hike especially it’s an old volcano that last exploded 6 million years ago. Have a small museum at the bottom to tell you the history of this hanging rock. It took us about 1 hour and 30 min to hike, take picture and sightseeing. A very good experience as it’s not that hard to hike.

Hmmmm... Unsolved mystery around Hanging Rock. A story that never will know what actually happened, a place where keeps the mystery for itself. A part of that, the Hanging Rock can offer a lot as a lovely walk to climb it and spectacular views! It has a few BBQ areas for picnic, perfect place to spend the weekend with family and friends. Operation hours are until 5 pm which is plenty of time. A small observatory gives the chance to learn more for the place and acknowledge. Just visit it and will not be disappointed!

Tricky to get to but worth it, lots of fun clambering around on rocks closer to the summit, lots of crevasses to explore. Beautiful views from the very top and a unique environment with an iconic atmosphere. Some interesting wildlife around too! (See photos attached)

Great place to take overseas visitors to see kangaroos in the wild, just a little tip, when leaving the car park area, turn left and then turn left again about 600 metres down and you'll get a fantastic view of Hanging Rock as well as many kangaroos lazing about at the back of the racecourse

Amazing place with gorgeous views. Did the Creek Walk and the Summit Walk. Creek Walk is just a walk around the Race course, you cross a tiny creek towards the very end of the walk which is right next to the parking area. It was a nice stroll and we saw two large groups of kangaroos and wallabies. So not completely disappointing but nothing compared to the Summit Walk.
The Summit Walk, as anyone can guess, is the main walk that takes you to the summit. Thigh the Summit is not very clear, once you reach at the top there a couple of huge boulders that can compete for the summit. The walk itself is not very difficult, a bit steep in places. You do have the option to take steps for some part is the walk. We took the steps on the way up and the path on the way down. The actual "Hanging Rock" is on the way through the steps. Though it is visible from the walking path as well, but can easily be missed.
There is a cafe there which is pretty good. A couple of toilet blocks, quite a few bbqs and lots of parking space.
