While spending the weekend in Tamworth with my family I decided to take my teenage daughter in here on Saturday morning to have her fitted for a bra. The woman behind the counter didn’t acknowledge us at all until I asked her if she wouldn’t mind fitting my daughter please. Her reply ‘We don’t do that’. I was dumbfounded & a bit taken back & said ‘What does that mean?’ She replied ‘Well just go with her normal size’ to which I replied ‘We don’t know her normal size as she doesn’t normally wear a bra’. I was so surprised by the attitude from someone who is supposed to be a shop assistant. We are pretty easy to get along with, friendly people & I’ve been to many fantastic lingerie shops in my time & never have I come across anything like it. We were genuine & polite, which is more than I can say for the woman in the shop on Saturday. I told her not to worry & that we would have a look ourselves but she obviously caught the look on my face & the look on the face of my mortified daughter & reluctantly followed us over to the rack to try to salvage the situation. In the end we did leave with one bra but certainly not because of this woman, it was more because I wanted to strike while my daughter was finally on board to try wearing a bra (something she has been reluctant to do until now). I have kicked myself every time I have thought about this incident over the past few days & questioned why we just didn’t walk out in the beginning & spent our money elsewhere. My advice to this woman is that perhaps working in ‘customer assistance’ isn’t for her & especially in such a potentially sensitive environment for young women. Such a shame as they seemed to have a good range & I always like to support small businesses, especially in country areas.
