Grahamstown Dam Spillway

The Grahamstown Dam Spillway is a unique and impressive engineering feat that is definitely worth a visit for anyone traveling to the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, Australia.

The spillway is located just downstream from the Grahamstown Dam and is a man-made structure that is designed to regulate the flow of water in the river. The spillway features a series of stepped channels that allow water to flow down in a controlled manner, preventing flooding downstream.

What makes the Grahamstown Dam Spillway so spectacular is its size and the amount of water that flows through it. During times of heavy rain or high water levels, the spillway is a sight to behold, with water cascading down the steps in a thunderous roar.

Visitors to the spillway can walk along the top of the structure and get a close-up view of the water flowing over the steps. The viewing platform at the top of the spillway offers stunning views of the surrounding valley and is a great spot for taking photos.

Constructed between 1956 and 1965, Grahamstown Dam is the Hunter’s largest drinking water supply dam, providing 40 per cent of water to our region and meeting up to 75 per cent of our daily supply requirements.
