Byron Service Station

Great service, there is a worker there that goes by the name of Sam. Sam not only was very polite with a positive attitude, but his charm and rustic good looks left me in a state of bewilderment.
Highly recommend coming here for a car hire experience.

I read the bad reviews so was a bit unsure, but it was so convenient to where we were staying (only 50 mtrs away) and well priced, that we thought we would try our luck. We ended up renting some bikes from them the day before - one of them was a bit squeaky so they took $10 off the price when we got back. The car was fine - a newish Kia Rio - and the service at both pick up and drop off was friendly and efficient. We booked online and had no problems and no complaints.

Very competitive rate for car hire and clean modern vehicle. Hertz quoted $206 for similar car which was extortion while these guys were $64 plus small insurance.
Friendly staff with boss Darren running the show efficiently.
Highly recommend and will certainly go back next time.

We read some bad reviews of this place so we dropped by the day prior to suss it out as it was the cheapest car rental service. Sam was so lovely and very informative. We booked it and had absolutely no trouble. On returning, the other staff were just as lovely. 😊 thank you for a pleasant experience.

I have an older car and each time I have taken into Jason at Caltex mechanic he has been able to fix the problems at little cost and within a very appropriate time. Recently had a woman come into my workplace at a local holiday center and she was in tears because her van wasn't working all the sudden and she was under the impression it would not be something fixable - it was heartbreaking seeing her look so helpless. I recommended Jason and the servo and she took their number to call when they were open the next day. She came back into the office the next afternoon all smiles - the van had been fixed for $80!! One thing better than having a reliable, trustworthy mechanic for myself, is being able to recommend them to others :)

We were lucky enough to be able to hire the last car in Byron Bay from Byron Car Hire. Very helpful people. They held the car for us overnight without asking for a deposit or credit card displaying old school trust. Great little Kia, clean and tidy. Drop off service available at Coolongatta if you are prepared to walk 500m from the local service station. Thanks again BCH.

The mechanic is the best!

This is possibly the worst customer service and experience we have ever experienced. The staff appeared to be on drugs and had significant anger management issues. He swore frequently and abused people in the shop which we witnessed

Booking the car itself should have tipped us off as to how rude this person was . He kept us on hold curtly and then hung up the phone without checking we were still there.

On arrival the staff member appeared very angry as if there had been altercations in the shop prior to our arrival . The staff member had the gaunt look of a crack user and was unable to offer any help

Following a discussion about the car he exploded in anger and became completely unable to control himself.

I absolutely recommend never coming to this place unless you want to leave in a state of high stress

I’d had no issues the few times I’d been to this servo , until I copped a mouthful this morning from an older guy behind the counter for carrying a 3kg puppy instore (i didn’t tie her outside due to her size/age).

A simple “hey no dogs inside” would have sufficed , but he was way too worked up and aggro to be capable of any normal interaction.

This place also uses the name “Ampol Byron Bay” which shows up similar 1 star reviews for staff behaviour.

Best avoided if possible ,there’s plenty of alternative servos and mechanics towards the rainbow bridge end of town.

Absolute worst customer service ever. We wanted to get a car for the same day and the guy there was lecturing me, instead of helping me out. All the bad reviews are true. We found a different rentalcar nearby and they helped us out to find one, even tho they had no cars left to rent. I would defenetly stay away from this place!

Made a reservation 2 days in advance. Was going to pick the Ute up in the Morning but got delayed by an hour and a half. When I called and explained they said that they’ve been trying to contact me and that I was lucky that they didnt rent it out to someone else. I explained and said that I was going to be there within half an hour and that I needed the car because I was moving house. During this conversation they decided that I couldn’t rent a car of them because they thought I was rude when I said that I wasn’t aware of that you had to be there exactly at the time since I already put my bank details down and was gonna have it for 24hrs.

Never experienced such a bad service before. I clearly made a reservation. These people obviously don’t have any understanding of that things can go wrong and not always go as planned. Very rude and unethical behaviour.

Very disappointing and will never go there again. Such a shame since I lived across the road for 5 years and always used the mechanics. Never again.

Would give zero stars if I could. This place does not deserve to be in business! I wish I had read the other reviews before giving them a call. Long story short, I was in a bit of a situation because of miscommunication with another rental company. I was stranded with large bags and no transport. So, called these guys to see if they could arrange for a car on short notice. The guy on the phone was rude and condescending. First gave me a lecture on how “patience is a virtue” and “how we do things around here”. Then, he said he can’t give me a car because I didn’t have a local phone number. What?! Apparently, this guy has not heard of what’s app or email. Finally ended up getting a car from Hertz with zero drama. If you need a car in Byron Bay, just get it from Ballina airport and save yourself a lot of unpleasantness. This company does not do justice to the laid back and friendly town that Byron Bay is.

The manager/owner who operates the car rental company is one of the rudest persons I’ve ever had to deal with. When I asked him to explain the procedure for a second time (cause it was quite complicated and he told it really fast) he told me I was being rude and he didn’t like that he had to explain it again and now didn’t trust me with his car. He than told us to leave the shop in a really offensive way. Don’t waste your money and time on this guy and trust the rest of the reviews (He’s listed under two names on Google, his other rating is just as terrible)
