Hard to believe that such a desolate place existing huge ruins. About 1km rugged road away from main road, then you could arrive this spot.

I took my group to Kanyaka Ruins.
It's an amazing place to visit, with so much history.
In-between Quorn and Hawker so is easy to get to.
It's beautiful and picturesque area.
I highly recommend going to see this place, as it shows how hard they had to work and survive back then.

The remains of this once vast homestead are impressive. The wool sheds further down the road are just as impressive and worthwhile visiting. A visit to the cemetery across the creek is also a good looking place for the deceased

Everyone should visit this place at least once. The ruins are amazing and give you an idea of how grand this place was and how hard life must have been. Don't miss the ruins of the massive stone shearing shed and shearers' quarters which are farther along the track from the main site. Admission is free.

What an incredible peice of SA history, must check it out. The work that went into back then is a marvel to the stone builders of the day, definitely a 10/10

#footnote the outdoor dunny is a example of being built to last 🤣👍👍👍

This is an amazing place, trying to imagine what life would have been like back in those colonial days. Lot of hard work obviously went into establishing these places.

A great place to stop off and explore some of the pastoral history. The signs and information are interesting, and the photographic opportunities good. It is in a beautiful location. Don't forget the Woolshed which is a short drive from the homestead and is unique. I spent an enjoyable and engrossing 45 minutes there. Definitely worth a visit.

Such a beautiful place steeped in history, the ruins are so interesting and follow the road around the bend on to the woolshed and shearers quarters. You can also take the 20 minute walk on to death rock

Extensive ruins to explore. Signage explains what each building was used for. At dusk and dawn the photo opportunities would be beautiful.

If you're in to Australian pastoral history then this place is a gem. Back in the old country, a site like this would be managed by English Heritage, fenced off and there'd be an admission charge, here it's just a spot off the road with a few signs for tourists. Well worth a stop and look around.

Flinders Ranges:
Step back in time, like 150 yrs.. This place would've been bustling with many families.. Very cool...👌

Great spot to stop for a break. Some good information on the ruins here. Great spot for lunch and some photographs. A donation box could be an idea.

Wow what a place, a must see when traveling from Quorn to Hawker. A easy road access for all vehicles dont miss the walk to Death rock.
Leave from the old Woolshed. That road looks a bit tough but was easylng going we had on our 16 ft van no problems. Take the Airogard water and a hat for the walk, its a couple of hours both ways at a leisurely pace. Could have stayed longer even though we spent the best part of half a day at the ruins.

Kanyaka Station was a cattle and sheep station in the Flinders Ranges of South Australia located at Kanyaka, approximately 40 km north-north-east of Quorn, South Australia. The area was inhabited by Aboriginal people for thousands of years before European settlement. The name of the station is taken from the Aboriginal word thought to mean "Place of stone".
