A yakiniku dining experience that won't disappoint.

Enter the bamboo entryway of Takumi and you'll be greeted by the lovely staff. The interior's decor is minimalist and calming.

Depending on your appetite, you can choose from all you can eat BBQ, select individual dishes, or get a few bite size dishes from the bar menu. There are a good selection of local and Japanese alcohol beverages to complement your meal.

We got BBQ and was delighted by the experience of grilling our own meat over charcoal. This also give the meat's flavour an extra special kick. The temperature was just right to cook the high quality cuts of Wagyu and each piece was tender and juicy. The meat are not seasoned as they're meant to be enjoyed with the special sauce. The karage and takoyaki that we ordered was also delicious as side dishes.

Food was amazing and the staff are incredibly friendly. Being a very short walk from parliament station, plus having a tram stop right out the front makes it very easy to get to. No need for parking. Will be back for sure!

Enjoyed this 'little bit fancy' Japanese-style restaurant using a Groupon and was very pleased. The waitress was attentive and very welcoming - I'm pretty sure I arrived 20 minutes before proper opening but she still looked after me like it was nothing. The food was good too.

My partner and I woke up with a craving for Japanese BBQ and so we jumped onto google in search of the best and closest options to our hotel. After reading several reviews we were absolutely no closer to making a decision. We decided to go with Takumi, they had soft drinks included in their $99 menu and that got us over the line. We called up to check how many wagyu types were available and to make a reservation. A delightfully friendly voice confirmed that they had 9 different types of wagyu available and that we were welcome to come in as soon as possible because they were closing soon. We hurried over and upon arrival realised they had stayed open just for us. After the initial surprise, we not only felt flattered but also relieved. Not only would we have all the service dedicated to us, but with 51,000 new covid cases in Melbourne that morning, the extra privacy was just another bonus, not to mention, a little romantic. Being late and the only ones there, at no point were we rushed nor did the level of service falter. The food was sensational, the dishes kept coming and each one tasted better than the next. As promised, there was way too much food and we were both very satisfied with our dining experience at Takumi. We would highly recommend this restaurant!

I’m surprised this place isn’t rated higher. The meat is super high quality and we had a long convo with the waiter about where they source it and we learnt a lot. Super interesting. They tell you exactly how many seconds to cook and the meat melted in your mouth! They said specifically they don’t give too much sauces with the meat because sauce is usually there to mask the bad quality of meat. Had a lovely time and was reasonable for what you get!

Went there for lunch on the 14th May.
Hadn't been there for years, and their menu had changed. So had no idea if they would be the same as 4 years ago.
Ordered the beef udon and was pleasantly surprised. The udon was great, especially for a cold Melbourne day (aren't they all???), with 4 smaller bowls of salad, seaweed, and some other stuff. Plus miso.
And the lady serving us was excellent. Will be back.

We went tonight after the Covid lockdown and organised a big table of 14.
The staff, atmosphere and food was amazing.

But I just wanted to do a big shout out to Jennifer, she was an amazing waitress and we need more people like her in the hospitality industry. Despite things being a little busy, she constantly checked in on us and made sure we had enough food and the food we wanted.
She definitely went above and beyond to ensure the experience was taken to the next level.

If everyone was like her there would be no complaints at all. Bright, happy and cheerful young lady.

Thank you!!

Had an absolutely delicious banquet meal here with the family to celebrate a birthday.
What a delightful menu, with something for everyone - and large portion sizes overall, meaning no one went home hungry.
So much flavour, and delicious Wagyu! Cooking our own food on the hot coals made it an extra exciting meal!

Don't be afraid to ask the wait staff if you are unsure of what something is, or how to cook it!

It is not often that you find an authentic Japanese restaurant here in Melbourne. The food were presented timely and placed beautifully. The main course, in particularly the wagyu beef is a treat for the mouth and the sauces provided resonated perfectly. Though fairly pricey, the place is definitely worth it!

Really good food and taste. It is nearby my office and I always ordered their lunch-sushi and dinner -all you can eat BBQ with friends in Takumi. Their food are good with the affordable price. Will come with friends next time!

We ventured to Takumis yesterday after an arduous day out, where we were refreshingly surprised by extremely devoted waitress on shift, who was tending to the entire restaurant at once. She was very polite and accommodating despite her lack of help. Just made the experience that much better

Takumi is not just another Japanese restaurant. The cuisine is all about yakiniku (Japanese BBQ). You cook your own meat and vegetables over hot briquettes (no electric substitutes here). The meat is excellent quality. The staff is attentive and professional without being intrusive. The wine list is adequate, but the selection of sake and plum wine is first rate. Seating is generous. A destination for a relaxed fine dining experience. Highly recommend.

A excellent top quality Japanese restaurant we went with a groupon deal, so got it for a very good price. The food was plated to perfection, you know looks to good to eat, could be used as art work. Every thing tasted great but the best was the wagyu beef which you cook yourself on a very hot charcoal grill which is placed into a well in the table. It certainly adds to the fun of the night. Everyone was very friendly and efficient they have two serving times 6 to 8 then 8 to late. We where there at 6. If you prefer a more relaxed time book the late sitting but 2 hours was perfect for us. A big thank you to Nao for looking after us so well.
