Just as delicious as the last time I was there.

It took a little too long for our order to be taken, but after that, the dishes were paced perfectly to the table.

Personally would’ve liked to see the Prawn San Choy Bow with the same tempura quality as the whiting.

Our table was unfortunately tucked away too far in the corner which wasn’t as nice of an ambience as when you’re closer to the action in the middle or in their downstairs dining room.

Website dinner menu was also out of date with the menu available on the night.

Great service and delicious food. The menu was more extensive than I expected with a range of raw and cooked meal options. There was also a good selection of saké to complement the meal.

What a fantastic night I had here! It’s quite an amazing experience for me and my family. The decor is simple but luxurious. The drink is not that great, but the food is incredibly fresh and delicious. I could remember the texture of the fish: crunchy, soft, and sweet. There are many words that I can use to describe it. Overall, Perfect

We tried the breakfast at Sokyo and it was amazing! We came back the next day for more.

The food was delicious but the drinks were a bit of a let down. I ordered the matcha and it was very diluted and had clumps of matcha powder in it. I suggest just having water but try all their different dishes.

Will be back for more.

I enjoyed a dinner here with a business colleague whilst we were staying at The Star. Definitely not the cheapest place to eat however what good Japanese restaurant is. We were unsure what to eat and so allowed one of the waitresses to guide us. Suffice to say her selections were excellent and not necessarily all of the most expensive dishes. And the food was sublime. The sashimi I particular was amazing.

Went here recently with a girlfriend and we both enjoyed the food, ambience and vibe. The staff were lovely and attentive. We ordered several dishes but our favourite had to be the cod in miso! Delicious and flavoursome and everything was so fresh. I think the only thing we wanted was more of each plate but by the end of it, we were both fairly full. Will definitely be back next time!
Drinks were yum too! Lychee Sprintz

Had a great meal at Sokyo. The sashimi was definitely the highlight of the nice. You could tell it was of great quality and fresh. Would definitely recommend getting the Sashimi Platter and trying the Tuna Crispy Rice! I was absolutely in love with the Toro, and would definitely recommend it if you’re in the mood to splurge a bit. The Toro just melts in your mouth like butter.

I visited Sokyo a few days ago. The food was alright. I waited for quite some time for food to come. Thanks to Pete for helping us out. Pete is really friendly and helpful when we ask him for some recommendations.

Sokyo Omakase - $300pp

Fantastic experience at the Omakase. Very intimate 6 seater bench for a front row experience. Head Sushi Chef Kim Sanghyeop most definitely showcases his skills with this experience.

Your evening begins by watching the head chef finalise some of the courses after being served an aperitif. Once the Omakase experience begins you are blown away by the innovation that chef Sanghyeop brings to the table. He is very interactive and explains each dish and what the thought behind it is. For example, he mentioned that long spine uni was extremely fresh that day, but the taste alone if too strong, so he paired it with the cuttlefish. It really shows the thought and effort that goes into preparing this menu. He was able to suggest appropriate sake for the occasion. The menu changes on a daily basis depending what is fresh at the market.

Every piece was sublime, truly exquisite experience. It was extremely difficult to get a booking here, but I urge you all to attempt it. Bookings open on the 1st of every month at 10:00, after which you can enter a ballot to potentially get a spot. There is only 1 sitting of 6 seats Monday-Thursday every week, so it is most definitely slim pickings.

Service was great, food was excellent and venue had a great vibe. Will definitely go back if I get the chance.

The food is top notch: the slow cook pork belly, wagyu beef, tempura, the oysters with their special yuzu seasoning goes very well together, so was their Sokyo sake cocktail. They dim the lights and play louder music when it gets late so go earlier if that’s not your thing.

Late review!
The staff were super helpful as our party had a few "vegan members". And they helped us with ordering a mixture of dishes so we could all share and enjoy our meals.

Mai especially was an incredibly friendly and knowledgeable waitress!

Look, not going to lie, dinner was simply epic!!!

The food, wine, ambience; just the whole experience was simply stunning. We did the tasting menu with matching wines and it is just the most lovely experience.

A strong recommend to everyone!!!

Located just outside the main area for the Star, it was a bit difficult to find the entrance for Sokyo. I was greeted by the staff and seated at the bar while I waited for the table to be prepared. The bartender was quite friendly and quick to attend to me.

The restaurant itself was aesthetic and nicely decorated, without feeling too exclusive or elitist. The staff member who took care of us was very attentive and friendly.

The food all came well presented (other than the edamame lol), with a lot of thought put into the placement of different elements, and the types of plates used. The food was mostly quite nice, but definitely more pricey than it probably should be:
- sashimi platter (+ caviar) - the sashimi was all very fresh and high quality. There were three different sauces provided, and the caviar sat in a small dish on the side. I’d definitely recommend the sashimi, but not really big on caviar (don’t really know what it’s supposed to add to the dish)
- “crab sando” - this was one of the specials. I remember thinking that these were TINY when I saw them. Literally bite sized, like canapés. I think they were $13 each. I’ve gotta admit, they were really nice; good texture and taste that leaves you wanting more… but for the price, it’s a little wild
- the scallop ravioli - I really liked this but again, it’s a small dish with a hefty price tag. The foam on top is a cool addition and the texture of the ravioli was very nice. Just wish there was more :’)
- wagyu steak - the sauce was nice and the beef was cooked well; tender and not chewy
- Queensland roll - a unique “sushi roll”. Try this if you are a bit more adventurous. The texture is interesting and I’m not too sure what the aim was. I don’t regret it but not sure if I’d order it again.

Overall, a decent experience - the food was definitely high quality and had a lot of effort put into the execution, but I think I’m personally more interested in simple food. I’d recommend it for a special event but if you’re just after some hearty, authentic Japanese food, head to your local sushi restaurant instead! I think it’s really the company that makes or breaks places like this :)
