Bernadette is so lovely. She has a really peaceful place. There are some stuff that maybe are a little old but the place is great anyway. Comfy new beds, equipped common kitchen, perfect to stay a couple of nights

I found in a knife in my bed. I was scared, but it made me feel safe from the chooks

Tarcutta Retreat was just what we needed! Restful and quiet for us weary souls. We were welcomed, and offered what we needed. With my ankle sprained that morning, there were no steps to contend with, and I benefited from the shower stool, an ice pack and ‘disabled’ railings. The tepid shower was perfect for the hot conditions. We were entertained by friendly crickets, wrens, beautiful chooks and stories of the echidnas. Some lovely touches in the decor, eg gold-rimmed cups. Having a lounge and kitchen to relax in made it feel homey. This place is on its way to becoming a destination of choice.

Couldn't get a room anywhere at Gundagai meant we drove on to Tarcutta. The Retreat is exactly as described on Google, an old nursing home converted for temporary accommodation. Our room was quite spacious with a Queen & single beds, renovated ensuite, TV and coffee making facilities. There's a communal kitchen/lounge area, and the retreat is far enough off the highway to get a good night's sleep. It could use a coat of paint and new flooring in the hallway but overall good value for money.

Quiet location, away from main road traffic in this town that has a major truck parking area. Shared kitchen, dining, and laundry for this retreat centre that operates like a motel. Very clean and tidy. Aircon is in common areas only. Unusually soft but comfortable mattress, not sagging from wear. Wheelchair accessible.

Lovelly place out of Wagga Wagga with homely vibes. Big kitchen to have massive cook ups with dining tables and massive living room. Verandah all around. Bernadette is a warm friendly host.

Overpriced and parking is confusing...all your basic needs are catered for but would not stay again.

Unfortunately not much to praise for this accommodation. Except it's a nice country view. It's a renovated old people's home. Wire beds. 3 single beds in very small room. Hostel feel to it so overpriced at $140 per night when we stayed. No one to meet you. Cannot really state about staff as did not meet any. Had to call to ask how to find our room. All other accommodation booked out so was left with no choice as needed place to rest between Melbourne and Sydney.

It's like an old nursing home hard to recommend.

We had to rush to make reservations due to sudden change of circumstance at Christmas time. Always a fun experience dealing with accommodation at the last minute in order to save having to drive 12 hours in a day.

In retrospect, I wish I drove the 12 hours, fell asleep at the wheel and never had to experience the so called "Tarcutta Retreat".

From the get go, it was confusing. There was no clear signage for parking, so we weren't even sure if it was okay to park where we did. The "Residents Only" sign certainly didn't help. Maybe it's for the ghosts of the old folks who passed away when it was still a nursing home.

No staff on site to assist with checking in, probably a sign that they want to stay here as little as you should.

The room itself is a nightmare. Our allergies exploded as soon as we were blasted by the dust accumulated in there. No air conditioning, a barely functioning fan, the towels were washed.. But considering you could still smell the detergent on them, the washing machine is clearly as old as the property itself.

I hope you enjoy having a shower where your temperature options are boiling hot or freezing cold. There's no such thing as preferred temperature for bathing here, folks.

The mattresses felt like Freddy left our dreams and came back reincarnated as a bed to torment the poor souls that decided to stay at this place. Honestly, I've never experienced something so uncomfortable. The floor would have been better, but it was so dusty, grimy and putrid, I think the deepest bowels of hell would have opened its jaws and consumed me. In retrospect, that would have been the better option.

Paper thin walls, glass with a blind to stop people peeking in (honestly, seriously?), so you have absolutely no sense of privacy. The locks on the door are as frail and flaccid as an 80-year-old with alzheimers, so feel reassured that an Ivan Milat copycat will have no issue getting into your room. Don't worry, they're doing you a favour.

Honestly, one of the worst motel experiences you'll ever have if you stay here. Not even Gordon Ramsay could save this place

Old retirement home coverted into Motel. You can still smell the mothballs. Carpet, linen, walls, sink and amenities are disgusting. Fan barley works no aircon and way overpriced. Shame as its a great location.

I wanted to like this place - and the owner was very friendly. However - website booking was for a King room and ended up with a Queen (old spring mattress). No air conditioning and no hot water so a cold shower to wake up to. Accommodation like this is fine but please don’t market it as a King Room at a retreat - way below expectations.

NOT WORTH $125
Stayed 06/01/2023
1. The place was DIRTY and had dead insects in every room. The carpets were very old tattered and stained.
2. The mattress was so well used that the Bed was like sleeping on an air mattress/ waterbed. Linen had surplus washing powder stuck to it and irritated our skin making the stay more uncomfortable.
3. The hygienic seal was stuck on the lid of the toilet which anyone could still use and keep the seals intact.
4. The external room doors that lead out to the veranda had no locks.
Internal door had keypad on door handle .We didn't feel safe.
5. There was black mould and holes on the roof near the children's play area.
We would not stay again. The place has potential but needs a lot of work.

The room was dirty, carpet needed vacuuming, bathroom sink wasn’t clean either. For the price I would expect air conditioning and the ceiling fan only had 2 operational fan speeds out of 3. There was a small heater on the floor plugged into the wall. No bench space to place items on. Just a room with beds, that’s it. The woman was friendly enough but didn’t really provide enough information about the place, especially that we could use the main kitchen area. Very vague and confusing. It’s an eerie kind of place as I believe it used to be a retired person’s home. It has a school style block structure. I felt like I was going back to high school! The fridge was pretty good and so was the bathroom. I’ll give it a thumbs up for that. Very spacious, good water pressure and a comfortable layout. Good sink with a decent bench top, just wish the basin was clean. The bed was well used and firm but I slept ok. Would I stay here again? For the money….absolutely not.
