This was our second stay at Kestrel Nest and our few days there were even more special than the time before. As soon as we arrived, we were overcome with a sense of calm and happiness. We delighted in the connection to nature and the atmosphere of the cottage itself, which is so beautifully presented with so many joyous details. This is a place to enjoy in itself - there is no need to go anywhere - but just to sit and watch the mist rise in the morning sun, the birds play and swoop, the sun sparkling on the creek, and lie in the hammocks watching the stars in awe.

The genuine commitment to sustainability is evident everywhere and we left with a renewed sense of optimism that there are people in the world working hard to make a difference. A very special experience.

Had an amazing time at Kestrel Nest ! Our kids loved being surrounded by nature, we got lucky enough to meet a new baby lamb, surrounded by nature, welcomed by the most beautiful farm dogs who are so friendly with children. We were surrounded by a beautiful sky of bright stars, the views the outdoor bath, the stone baked bread, the homemade chorizo, all of it was just perfect ! definitely coming back
Would love to enjoy the river in the warmer months, would be great to relax and enjoy fishing

I have been raving about Kestrel Nest Eco hut since my first stay this year. It was beyond my expectations (which were high thanks to a friend who had been). Obviously, it's a stunning location and the commitment to being TRULY ecologically managed is excellent. But another thing that stood out was the level of thoughtfulness and care that permeated every aspect and came through in great attention to detail. Dietary issues were catered for with generosity and we were able to cook two lovely meals using the meat pack. We really enjoyed the bird tour and will be back. Don't wonder...just go!

If it were possible to give more than five stars, I would, gladly.
My wife and I (let's face it, my wife) found this incredible gem of an experience. Kestrel Nest is an experience from the moment you open the gate to the Ecohut Yard and see what Loiuse and David have created.
Being 'eco friendly' does not mean comfort is a distant memory, because our stay was comfortable, cozy, yet simple. The absence of distracting technology barely crossed our minds.
We spent our days whatever way we wanted. Wake up early and discover how astonishing your experience can being, but watching the sun break the morning mist as the shadows of small birds dance over the grass. Sleep in and be greeted by an immense variety of birds gorging themselves on the various plants, bugs and beetles. You may even be greeted by a sauntering echidna, making their way through the Ecohut Yard to the Nature Reserve. You may even find an active wombat burrow, or see a rare river rat swimming up stream towards you.
These are but a few aspects of our own experience which made the location which was already so magical, even more so.

Waking up to birdsong, watching the sunrise from bed, farm fresh breakfast, strolling by the meandering creek, the bright milky way at night and can't forget the outdoor bath... these are just some of the wonderful experiences I had at Kestrel Nest EcoHut. It is a truly beautiful and unique place!

What Louise and David have created with Kestrel nest eco hut is just perfect on so many levels - not only is the hut completely off grid, the furnishings, art works including nature’s art and the comfort provided by the large double glazed windows is fabulous!! The way the hut rests in the landscape quietly nodding to the placement and using elements from the original farm workers’ hut has been realised with such grace. The use of timber milled on site really embodies what an ‘Eco hut’ should be and the kangaroos grazing just outside as the sun rose is not something we get to see every day!! Louise’s farm tour gave a wonderful insight into the trials and tribulations that they’ve gone through to continue the valuable work of preserving and improving areas to allow the native Box-Gum Grassy Woodland habitat to flourish.
There are so many areas to explore to discover the importance and scale of their efforts…. The succession planning for paddock trees, the fish in the creek, the grasses and shrubs thriving and allowing cover and safe passage for the smaller birds, the rehabilitation of old paddock tree sites and plantings that still allow their award winning sheep and lambs to graze across the property. It was also wonderful to see the beautiful and gentle Maremma’s at work looking after the flock, that is when they weren’t angling for a pat ;-)
I’ll definitely be recommending Kestrel Nest to my bird watching brother in law….. there are over 140 bird species recorded, and he’ll also love the exposure to the off grid arrangement to see what is possible with solar panels, a battery and the technology to monitor usage. We were really pleasantly surprised just how much energy was available at any time and the considerations to take into account in terms of seeing how the battery and solar panels work. Any bird watcher would be kept busy searching or simply relaxing in the star gazing hammocks and waiting for the birds to come to them. I feel like there is still so much to write about / explore, I expect we’ll be returning ….. hopefully sooner rather than later. Thank you so much Louise and David for all that you do for us and the planet. Hats off to you!!!

Kestrel EXCEEDED my expectations, I fell in love with this Ecohut on arrival. Louise and David have created a magnificent place for people to reconnect with themselves nature and simplicity, this is a place where you can enjoy solitude and slow down your mind whilst taking in the breathtaking views. Set up the hammock and stargaze with no interference or light pollution. This place reminded me how much I actually enjoy cooking. Thank you Louise & David.

The perfect getaway! Enjoyed the peace and quiet, and beautiful views of the nature, with the farm animals near by. The hut itself is beautiful and has everything you need, and the hosts are wonderful and always contactable, if needed. Highly recommended!

The farm and the EcoHut are amazing. By far the best place we’ve ever stayed in. The hut was beautiful and remote and the owners are great hosts, giving us tips about the farm and the surrounds. Highly recommend to anyone wanting a peaceful (and isolated) get away in nature!

We had a wonderful time here. Between the sunset, the wildlife and the landscape we had some unforgettable moments! The hut is as comfortable and pretty as one could possibly wish. Also, Louise and David are so kind, which made our stay even nicer. We would happily take on a flight round half the world again to reexperience this incredible place.

Kestrels nest is the respite we all need from our busy lives.
Fall asleep to the sound of a bustling river , gaze into the milky way at midnight from a hammock , take a bath with your loved one at breakfast while looking out over the mountains and most importantly contemplate your complete lack of panic over missed notifications and messages.
Thank you for creating paradise within a paradise, you've inspired and reconnected us.

I booked Kestrel Nest as a surprise getaway for my partner and I to spend some valuable time together away from the busyness of our daily lives in the city.
We were both beyond impressed with every aspect of our stay. From the views of the rolling hills surrounding the eco hut to the beautiful sunrises and sunsets that painted the sky the most incredible colours. The stars at night were incredible and every detail inside the home was absolutely perfect. The bedding, the art, the handmade soap and delicate placement of the most stunning bird feathers.

The most used feature of the hut was definitely the outdoor bath with the most amazing placement on the deck looking over the hills and down to the river.

The ultimate luxury getaway for anyone who enjoys the beauty and wonders of the outdoors both inside and outside.

Thank you so much Louise and David for hosting us! We have already told our friends and family about this unforgettable find and so look forward to coming back!

I had a wonderful experience escaping the city to spend a few days appreciating the fresh air and being in nature. I went with a friend but it would be a perfect romantic getaway or ideal solitary retreat. The kitchen was stocked with wholesome food including a delicious loaf of home baked bread which was perfect for a picnic lunch by the creek, followed by a refreshing dip in the water. Everything in the hut was thoughtfully planned with comfort in mind so you can just relax and enjoy. Highly recommended - Thank you Louise and David

What complete and utter bliss! To sit in the creek and let the water wash away all the cares and concerns, to sit on the deck of Kestrel Nest EcoHut and reflect on the beauty that surrounds you, the landscape alive with the sound of birds and insects, the rustle of the breeze in the grasses and trees and the gentle rush of the creek below. David and Louise have created an absolutely wonderful place, perfect in its simplicity, utterly divine in every detail - from the hand-made to the historical and the found objects that create the vignettes in the hut's interior. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Our hearts are full and trust me, you need to experience the peace of this place.

We arrived on a Friday afternoon after easy to follow instructions and had booked in a farm tour on arrival. Louise turned up soon after we arrived and we undertook our tour which Louise altered to keep our 9 and 4 year old boys entertained, and they enjoyed it immensely. From patting lambs to collecting freshly laid eggs, learning where to fish and opening the gates, the boys had a great time. The facilities at the house were great and the quietness has to be experienced to be described. The boys enjoyed using the outdoor bath as well as playing outside and we enjoyed that they were not wanting to watch their devices. On Saturday we went to Tumbarumba and did the rail trail which was very pleasant as well as driving through the very pretty countryside. We arrived back and took the boys fishing at the dam that Louise had pointed out and caught a couple of fish which the boys were thrilled with. We will definitely be back as all the family had a great time and the boys are asking when we can go back. The hut is really clean and kitchen has plenty of provisions. We especially enjoyed the bacon and eggs and sourdough which were all provided.

Louise and David have created a little spot of paradise for you to forcibly unplug (no reception) and just appreciate life. The beautiful thing about staying here is that you don’t have to appreciate life without any of its luxuries. The kestrel nest is your home away from home, that has everything you could think of, and want. Comfortable beds, lovely linen, soft towels, leather lounges, kitchen provisions and all the creature comforts. The best part, it’s all self-sustainable and off-grid. It shows you that you don’t have to miss out when looking after our planet.
While it speaks to a romantic hideaway, it’s actually amazing for families, like us, to spend some quality time. Our toddler enjoyed every minute of bug spotting, bird spotting, and animal spotting, not to mention having a bath outside, that we could all fit in!
We are foodies and the produce from the farm and the area were delightful and waking up to kookaburras every morning is my heaven.
We also enjoyed a farm tour; the efforts that Louise and David have gone to, to farm ecologically and look after the land that is providing for them, is inspiring.
We look forward to another visit to this slice of paradise within the year. Thank you for having us!
