We got here for A Christmas Carol. I love the leather seat. The venue are also spacious, so it’s easy to go in and out. Bathroom are clean and also a lot available for use. Staffs are friendly. Such a nice theatre!

A terrific venue for some of the best live theatre performances. I saw "Come from Away" there twice and they did it well. And just on Christmas Eve, I saw "A Christmas Carol" at the Comedy Theatre and it was great.

We saw: A Christmas Carol.
In December 2023.
The seats were comfortable and the stage was in clear view above the heads of patrons started in front of us. I honestly couldn't imagine that one area is better than another; but some seats cost lots more because they boast having the best view. I'd happily pay the cheaper price and sit downstairs at stage level, behind the few more-expensive rows. It's a small venue so everyone could see the stage and the close proximity to actors had us feeling we were often part of the show. Lighting was fantastic; sound was always clear and easily heard; the stage props seemed to slot into their snug place in the stage smoothly; the orchestra played upstairs and sounded absolutely beautiful; and the sign language translators did upstairs in full view with a spotlight on them at all times. They were skilled.
Toilet facilities are older and cramped - it was hard to shut the toilet door without leaning myself up against the toilet bowl. They were clean and functional
The architecture of the old place remains and it was a real delight to go there.

Charming old building with atmosphere of last centuries. Little bit tight for modern crowds. Theatre is well equipped for great visitor experience.

A beautiful historic venue. Came here for the opening of the Melbourne International Film Festival to view the film Shayda. Also have seen the musical, Jagged Little Pill at this theatre. It’s one of the Melbourne entertainment venues owned by Marriner Group. It’s well maintained with accessible bathrooms on the ground floor and more bathrooms on the top floor. There’s plenty of bar service available and a good choice of beverages and snacks including great icecream! The flip down seating has average room to get in and out, and the seat comfort is firm if a little stiff. This venue is carpeted so you have to be careful bringing f&b into the show.

Great atmosphere, great production, very comfortable seats.
Only one downside the stage lights were way too bright.

Tim Minchin's show at the Comedy Theatre was a must-see. His music was catchy, his stories were funny, and his stage presence was electric. Highly recommended!

Got on the day tickets today for the opening night of A Christmas Carol. Didn’t know what seats we had until we picked up the tickets at the box office, but got great seats with a great view in the dress circle. The show was a fantastic adaptation of the classic story with some great comedy moments. All the cast were superb and the lad that played little Tim was great. Definitely worth seeing if you’re around Melbourne during its run.

Came here last night to see Laura Ramoso.
Hadn't been to this theatre since Craig McLaughlan was in the Rocky Horror Picture Show here.

Beautifully run event. Plenty of helpful staff. Themed cocktails. Gorgeous theatre and fantastic comedy.

Couldn't have had a better night.

Tim Minchin. Always a brilliant night out.
Sat up the very back and got blasted by cold air a few times. That was less than pleasant. Wouldn't stop me going back.

Took the grandchildren to see A Christmas Carol. Absolutely terrific. Owen Teal was a fantastic Scrooge and the whole cast made it a wonderful memorable experience. More than made up for a very disappointing Elvis the week before.

I love the Comedy Theatre. Sure, it could do with some renovations but, while smaller, it is spacious. The staff are always helpful and friendly. This time we saw Six - it was brilliant (if you're into contemporary pop). A definite standing ovation and SIX well deserved stars!

It was a spur of the moment decision on a Sunday to go and watch the brilliant show "Come From Away". We had seats in the back row and with our glass of wine were enthralled by a superb performance. It is a worthwhile show and I would recommend it to everyone!!

A Christmas Carol is as good as if not better than the write-up! 👏🏼👏🏼Charles Dickens timeless classic has been adapted brilliantly while maintaining the essence & moral of the original story. Kids will love it & the interactive experience is very entertaining. Brings back nostalgic Xmas cheer & glad tidings before we became mired in pc & consumerism. This theatre itself is just perfect for the era portrayed. Cast exemplary - music, song & dance ab fab.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Pic taken from my seat 14 -Stalls -Row i. For the petite & young - this has clear view of stage with no one in front ($130 Adult).

Went there for Once musical and had a great experience.
The theatre wasn't large, and it had two levels. The audio system and lighting effects were good.

Melbourne is extremely fortunate to still have several old theatres, and this one is delightfully quaint. Went to A Christmas Carol stage play, and although this isn’t a review of the production I can still report it was a 5 out of 5 star, absolutely brilliant.

Comedy Theatre another old timey venue in Melbourne great for smaller scale productions such as A Christmas Carol. Great show, good family entertainment, funny and heartfelt. David Wenham great. Comedy Theatre has issue that all venues have though, not enough bathrooms, always long queues. Easy to get to from Parliament station, 1 min walk. Though when leaving Comedy Theatre went out side door with EXIT lit up in bright red. So I had exited and was actually on the street and a staff member came out and told me off and said you can't go out that way. I said well firstly I am out and secondly it's marked Exit. She said emergency exit only and of course I said it wasn't marked emergency exit, just exit! Sweet jesus what is it with some people.......also hello theatres note if you don't want people to use exits then don't have them lit up saying exit! 12.3.23 here to see The Mousetrap, Agatha Christie play been showing for 70 years! Great to visit theatre again though picked killer, so guess not as twisty as today's murder mysteries. 12.4.23 back again, 3rd time in 4 months. Tonight Wil Anderson for The Comedy Festival. Husband and I love Wil Anderson.
