A delightful addition to downtown Bennington. Warm and friendly local folks will make you feel right at home. A non-profit with very healthy fresh produce from nearby farms including some of the best organic growers. Handmade delicacies and even some unusual items: so look around at all the shelves. Not just a grocery -- rates as a must stop for visitors.

We love their vegetarian sandwiches and breakfast burritos 😁
And their chocolate cream pies!
So glad we have them here now.

Not much food sold in their stores but there is a lot of indoor seating space. Prices on food that they do sell is high but since they're basically a food co-op the prices are on par w/what I expected. Overall very clean & orderlyb& the staff is helpful. Pre-cooked food is also available & EBT cards are accepted here. Within walking distance from downtown, bicycle racks are available across the street at Dollar General, and it's also within a half block of the closest bus stop which is served by the Green Mountain Express' Blue Line.

I find it so disheartening to read that the BCM's mission statement and realities of the store are totally at odds.

The BCM homepage reads: "The Bennington Community Market offers fresh, made-from-scratch foods with a local and seasonal sensibility to serve the surrounding community. Our customers will find fresh produce, meat, dairy, baked goods, and other products from local farms and food producers, as well as a wine and beer selection. We welcome gatherings and events in our bright cafe space."

Why does this 3-pack of lettuce cost $6.70 which most locals cannot afford? That is not even the worst of the transgressions. Why is the BCM buying lettuce from California when the mission statement promises a commitment to local farming?

The BCM promised locally fresh and affordable food in this so-called "food desert" but broke this promise less than 18 months after opening its doors.

I hope it works out for them, but they'll have to rely on mainly tourist dollars since prices on groceries are generally 2-3x what they cost at competing stores, when items are actually in stock. $11.50 for a gallon of apple cider is absolutely crazy...

Very expensive (baked goods are $30 for a pumpkin pie. $7 for. Two 2” cookies). Service in the deli is super slow. I don’t know if this a some kind of training program for employees in the deli. No other customers and six employees in the deli it took 27 min to slice 3 lbs of cold cuts. Come at noon for a nitemare, 6-8 people online and one harried cashier.
This is not for the neighborhood. This is for day trippers or tourists who may find the slow pace charming. Sandwiches are good, baked goods are average but too expensive for being “meh” at
best.No accommodations for handicapped or disabled customers. Van parked across entrance prohibiting entrance. Just let this vanity project go to tourists. I recommend other local places with much better customer service skills, a sense of timeliness, charging fair prices and considerate of the disabled or handicapped. Not here! In a Bennington Blotter poll last eeek for best place to have lunch in Bennington over 63 responses were given. Just one vote for Community Market. Locals know best.
