Delightful treasury of yarns, spinning wheels and tools of our crafts. Be prepared to stay a while. There's lots to see and do. The owners are welcoming and very knowledgeable. I learned to spin here, and bought my first wheel. Thanks Kurt, and thanks Nancy and all your team.

Wonderful yarn store in the charming town of Altamont. Very welcoming and everything a yarn store should be. Picked up some great sock yarn and relaxed and did a bit of knitting as it was drop-in knitting day. I’m looking forward to returning.

Wonderful local yarn shop, with an excellent selection of yarns! They have a variety of yarns, and are eager to help in any way possible. They’re located in a beautiful location, and I’ve always been able to find what I need for my projects! If you’re looking for yarns nicer than what you’d find in a big box store, check them out!!

This shop is very close to Albany, but in a nice quiet location across from a small park and a public library. The first thing that I found in the shop was a WPI tool from Katrinkles that had a cat that looks just like mine on it! I picked up a couple of skeins of yarn from a local brand and a few pairs of needle tips for my interchangeable set. The back room of the shop had a large shelf full of tips and cords. It was the best selection that I've seen in any shop so far. The commercial yarns seemed very well priced and the owner was very friendly. I didn't need my hanks spun, but they offered to spin them form me. I would definitely stop in again when I'm in that area.

Despite visiting Albany many times in the last few years, this was the first time I had visited The Spinning Room - and I absolutely loved it!! I went about 45 mins before closing and didn't feel at all rushed or like I was being pushed out of the shop; the staff were friendly, knowledgeable and they had actually engaging conversation about what type of craft I do, yarns I use, what I make, etc. It is such a homey feeling shop and despite preparing for the upcoming Rhinebeck festival, they were fully stocked! I highly suggest checking out this sweet yarn shop every time you get the chance!!

Shop is small with an excellent variety of yarns, needles, and other items. Owner very knowledgeable and six knitters were around a table, including one man, no stranger to the group, with three knitters back in another room. When a hank of yarn is purchased, they have a contraption to wind the yarn into a nice ball. They have packages of 5 double-pointed needles for sock making along with varieties of fingerling yarns. It is welcoming and big-hearted there! Lots of samples.

Such a lovely store! Cooperatively owned, lots of gorgeous and affordable yarns. I stopped in on my way through New York and was struck by how welcoming and helpful the woman who was working was. In the time I was there, I was able to see what a community the shop has built over the past many years of its existence.

Everything about this shop is excellent. Amazing atmosphere thanks to the terrific staff. The yarns are amazing and their classes are helpful regardless of your skill level. The knitting circles are fun. Really supportive and fun place. It’s a must do.

Very nice staff, greeted me as soon as I walked in the door and was very helpful. The space is filled with yarn and very cozy, but the yarn is well organized and it's easy to find what you need. They carry a bit of Juniper Moon Farm, which I like to use, as well as Cascade. A bit of a windy drive from 90, I felt like I was in the middle of nowhere for twenty minutes, and the parking is less than ideal. I don't like having to cross the street just to park and the parking next to the building seems to be for the apartments next door, but that's not a customer service issue and I can easily look past it. Will go again.

I’m the wife of a truck driver and we had stopped for the night about 12 minutes away drive from The Spinning Room. I was going to take a Lyft over to their store however was extremely bummed upon learning that a lift would cost me $38 round trip and would completely eat up my yarn money.
I contacted the store and asked if they happen to have anyone whom lives in this direction and would pass me and could drop off yarn if I purchased via the phone.
I was promptly told they would in fact be able to do this for me and was sent pics of yarn choices from some local dyers, as I had asked about local yarn suppliers specifically.
I chose my yarn, made my purchase, and received my text receipt and got signed up for their email faster than you can wind a mini skein on a swift.
Now I sit here in the truck waiting for either Nancy or Lisa to finish work for the day and drop my yarn off on their way home.
Oh and did I mention that they wind your skeins at no charge when you purchase yarn.
I haven’t ever stepped foot in their brick and mortar store and they still have the best customer service I have EVER received in my LIFE!

Thank you so very much for going above and beyond for a fellow yarn lover!
