Absolutely first rate outstanding food and service. We sat by the open kitchen and it was enjoyable seeing how caring these professionals prepared such great food in a relatively small kitchen. I had the dragon bowl with ahi and wow it was excellent! My wife and daughters meals were excellent as well. Definitely the best meal we had during our stay by far. Der Garten will be top on my list again when in TSV.

Der Garten deserves a minimum of Michelin Bib Gourmand.

The innovation that Chef Asia uses in seemingly traditional cultural dishes or a simple burrata salad is second to few starred restaurants I've been to. We went two nights in a row and got to sample most of the carefully crafted menu and specials. Fittingly, the menu offerings primarily belong to Europe and Bavaria, but also included things like a masterful Dahl showing prowess in all types of cooking.

The ambiance is also incredibly unique, the restaurant being in a converted residential house. Our second meal there we ate on suede armchairs and coffee table in front of a huge, roaring fireplace. And thats what it feels like, eating at home.

But what I loved most about the place was Chef Asia personally bringing all of her food out to us, describing the details of each dish. As an aspiring chef myself, she even sat down with us and we talked about the technique and theory behind all of her dishes - super meaningful and a memory I’ll never forget. She is truly talented and proud of what she brings to every table - and should be!

This is the best restaurant in northern New Mexico, and you'd have to work to find a place this good in Santa Fe or ABQ.

They also serve draft German beer by the liter… a reason to go by itself!

Beautiful location - we sat, drank a lovely German reisling, ate a locally sourced veggie hummus plate and decompressed. Couldn’t have asked for a more better experience. One of the original Taos locations serving lunch and dinner. Give it a shot. You won’t regret it - Asia is wonderful, knowledgeable and so helpful.

I ate lunch at the Der Garten and I must say it was quite delicious. I had the Stuffy sandwich and I must say I will be back! Everything on the menu looked absolutely scrumptious and well priced.

This beautiful dog friendly lunch spot is located right across from Cids mountain market. While enjoying the beautiful views from this lovely spot you can learn all about the history of the Thunderbird lodge. One of the first Bavarian hotels located at the Ski Valley filled with rich history. This is a must stop for lunch and a little slice of Bavaria.

If I could give 10 stars I would. By far the most incredible restaurant experience I’ve ever had. An absolute MUST. The people are unbelievably kind and charismatic. The food is absolutely delicious. No other single word could better describe this place than PERFECT. The environment was extremely cozy and we never wanted to leave. Please do yourself a favor and stop by whenever you’re nearby.

This low key local spot is a must have for a cozy relaxing atmosphere. It’s a beautiful laid back spot with a toasty fireplace, great signature cocktails, and tasty eats. It’s a must on a Sunday afternoon when relaxing after hitting the mountain.

Loved this place! So close to the slopes and the food is great. Love how cozy it is too. Service was great even though they were very busy. We got a couple of the figalicious sandwiches, the green chili stew, and a kids Nutella sandwich, it was all delicious! Will definitely be back the next time we’re in TSV.

The last establishment at TSV with any charm or character. Excellent well crafted cuisine and fun cocktails by a warm fireplace surrounded by salvaged antique memorabilia from the old family run Taos Valley. Much more than a sandwich shop after apris ski from 2-4. For dinner service, steaks, chops, seafood and Bavarian favorites are beautifully presented by chef couple Asia and Kristof.

Wonderful local fresh seasonal veggies, salads, sandwiches, and an amazing green chili and chicken stew with forbidden rice and beans. Wow!

We were on the last day of an extended and wonderful vacation through New Mexico. Found this gem while scouting the gorgeous drive up to Taos Ski Valley. Garden grown veg, best baguette ever, cozy surroundings. Oh, and be sure to have Asia's Pork Stew if she's got it. Amazing!

Der Garten has the best sandwich in the known universe, the Stauffy, as well as a delightfully wonderful bison goulash.

The beer selection includes both german and local New Mexican varieties.

The service never fails to impress; it’s a can’t miss Taos Ski Valley experience!

We ate at the supposedly ‘top’ restaurants in Taos ski valley this past week. Nothing even comes close to Der Garten!!! Everything we ate was delicious, with fresh, organic ingredients. Service was excellent too. The pride the chefs and staff were incredible and took care of our family.

Just had my first experience at the 'new' indoor version. Absolutely awesome! This is the meal experience you used to have at a cool ski area before it got corporatized and F&B went to hell. The vibe is perfect! Cool retro ski chalet/modern. The food is sensational! Delicious, healthy, fresh and great value. No place better in the ski valley at this time. Christof, the owner, who grew up in the building, might even stop by your table and say 'hi'.

Excellent eatery and lodging if you're looking to stay at the ski valley. Wonderful german and indian food, excellent atmosphere, unique and comfy rooms, and best of all wonderful proprietors. Be aware the owner is hard of hearing but she is wonderful!

Incredible, yummy, excellent, exceptional! It’s rare that you go to a place at TSV that doesn’t feel overly corporate with basic food and minimal human connection. At DerGarten, you feel the energy of the locals, the warm welcoming touch, and the feeling you want to stay awhile. Everything is homemade by the owners Asia and Christoff, and if you’re lucky, you’ll get to chat with them or hear Christoff play piano in the dining room! They treat you well and they care about the food and expierence you are getting! There’s no where else on the ski valley I want to eat or drink. The stoffy is my favorite :)
