Penny's Pit Gourmet Burgers (Rathdrum)

Went to Penny's when another place was packed and so glad we did. No wait on Saturday at dinner time. I got the James Dean with onion rings. The meat here isn't the usual hamburger meat. This tasted smoky and had a little crust on it like it was grilled. Exactly how I like it! Onion rings were great. My son got the sweet potato fries with pamesan cheese and sauce and he loved them. My daughter got the chicken ranch with sweet potato fries and she loved it as well. One of the best burgers in N. Idaho! Highly recommended!

Excellent experience even during a very busy lunch rush. Ordered lunch for the entire crew at our store and was greeted with amazing service from Shawna. She handled the lunch rush well and got us our food on time. Cooks in the back did an amazing job on the food. Have been there a few times and they always knock it out of the park. Keep up the great work and will be back. Thank you again for the outstanding experience.

First time visiting, and was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the small cozy atmosphere. I also liked the choice of music playing during my visit.
Now to the food. I ordered the James Dean burger. It was a 1 pound with all the fixings. A bit greasy, but what good hamburger isn't? The fries are also great! I'd recommend this to anyone in the area, and looking for an old school home style meal.

Fast and friendly service, and prices right in the middle of the road for the area. I had the Gorgonzola and Arugula burger with "Chris Fries" and a soda. Meal so big I couldn't finish it, and it set me back only $21. The decor and atmosphere is perfect for a stop in for a gourmet burger. Loved it.

I am impressed by the burgers and fries at this place. The simplicity of the flavors are so enticing that I’d willingly make the drive from Coeur d’Alene just to indulge in one of their burgers again. In my opinion, they offer one of the best burgers you can find in the area. The combination of juicy, perfectly cooked patties with just the right amount of toppings and the crispy, golden fries on the side makes for an unforgettable meal. Although I’m on a quest to discover the ultimate burger in town, Penny’s Pit currently holds the top spot on my list. Their consistency and quality have set a high bar that few others have met.”

Saw a post on Facebook for their “secret menu” and their Sriracha Burger and Chris Fries!! This burger is burn your face off in the best way, leaving you wanting more! 10/10 recommend!

My husband got the chicken bacon ranch sandwich and he loved it, too!

Pennys pit is one of those, hole in a wall places with amazing burgers. It’s a small, cozy diner type feel with an old school celebrity theme. One of the burgers is even named after James Dean. They offer beer and non alcoholic beverages. I would highly suggest visiting for lunch or dinner

This is a great place for a burger! It's a hole in the wall place but the food is good. The burgers are big, juicy, greasy, and flavorful. I got the James Dean and I would recommend it. It has lots of meat and bacon. Burgers are priced in the $12-$16 range. The sweet potato fries were good as well (regular fries included with burger but sweet potatoe fries are extra). The inside has a 50s theme with photos of Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe on the wall There is not a lot seating so I would not bring a group larger than 4 people. There is a sign on the door that says "Use Other Door" but there is only one door to enter. I would recommend thst they chang that sign. The restaurant is part of a building that has a gas station on one side and a laundry mat on the other so the sign made the entrance not intuitive.

Wow. All I can say is I have driven by this place so many times not knowing it was there and I want to cry. Definitely in the top 3 burgers I have EVER had. Got the gorgonzola and bacon jam burger. Definitely one of those where once you pick it up you can't put it back down, but I don't think I would have anyways. This place is a hidden gem! Oh, and the staff was awesome to boot.

I have been to this place a couple of times now. They have awesome burgers. The place is what I would call cozy (small). It is fine if your group is 4 or less. Any larger and things get a bit complicated.The staff is as awesome as the burgers. I had the Blue onion Burger both times I have been there. The first time it was spot on, unfortunately on the next visit the crumbles of blue cheese were overpowering. The fries are the best. I don't recall the name but we had the fries with bacon and cheese. They were fantastic.

AWESOME burgers, and the sweet potato fries were delicious! Tucked away in a tiny Rathdrum shopping strip, it's a delightful surprise. We've been here before, more than a couple years ago and am happy to report Penny's has just gotten better! 💞

This place has one of the best hamburgers I have ever had! I actually didn’t expect to have such a great hamburger but oh boy it was so good!
Service was great and price was very reasonable.
We will definitely go back again!

Really delicious food. Staff is very friendly. The only thing I would change is the bun and burger shape. The bun is way too much bread, and very dense. And the burger shape is spread too thin. Maybe reshape them so they’re thicker and not so round. These are just my preferences. The flavor of the food is fantastic! We will go back.

Hey, it's a hole in the wall. I don't mean that negatively. It's small and neat. Nice atmosphere. It can be loud when it's busy because it's small. But the food is great! Best Burgers, fries and onion rings around. Generous portions too.

Absolute delight! I stumbled on this place by accident when I stopped to get gas. Hip gourmet burger shop with a Rat Pack theme. They have a wide selection of custom burgers. I had the Sinatra. It was divine! They also have beers and cider on tap. The fries were tasty too. Be sure to ask for Zach!

I had a Marilyn cheeseburger with Bacon. The beef they use here is fantastic and so is the bacon. They cooked the burgers to your liking but I always get my medium rare because it's so lean. French fries are so tasty and cooked well. You can get fry sauce if you want and it's the best condiment for french fries in Idaho. I posted a new menu so you can see the current items available and pricing. The wait staff is super friendly and super attentive.

Small burger joint if you want to stay and eat but we lucked into a table as it was a full house. We ordered the weekly special - a blackened bleu cheese burger with garlic aioli and fries for $13.50 each and they were delicious. Juicy, flavorful and all fresh ingredients and buns. The photo is my grandsons cheeseburger off the kids menu. He ate every bite of his burger and fries plus some of my fries and also raved about how good it tasted. The decor is classic movie stars. The waitress was very friendly and the wait time for hot food was reasonable for such large burgers and a packed house. The restroom is back in the storage area and is a tiny closet, not suitable for anyone who needs handicap facilities but a service station next door has clean restrooms.

In my opinion one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. We really can’t get enough of penny’s pit! Sometimes we’ll even go just to get the fries because the fries are to die for as well. The fry sauce is different but in a good way! Definitely make sure to try Penny’s if you’re in town!

Went in to penny’s yet again tonight and this time around only reaffirmed our original conclusion. The best burger we’ve ever had. The fries are amazing and the sweet potato fries are so good that we had regular fries with our burgers and ordered a side of sweet potato fries.

Great little “hidden” burger shop. This had a nice menu that wasn’t overwhelmingly long or complicated. Although the names of the burgers were weird and did t give a clue as to what was in them you had to read the full description to understand what you were ordering. Our favorite thing is the French fries. They were acidly and delicious. This is a locals favorite for Rathdrum!
